This weekend’s second round of the GT World Challenge Australia from Bathurst continued Tony Quinn’s opening form from the first-round last month with a pair of Class wins aboard his new Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3 to take the overall lead in his class.

Joining him at The Mountain was the Mike Bailey AMR V12 Vantage GT3 that this time sported an equally colourful livery after its lengthy rebuild after the car’s sizeable impact with the tyre wall in the opening race of the first round at Phillip Island last month.

Instead of contesting the opening round of this years Australian Endurance Championship this weekend, Andrew Miedecke is helping one individual move up to GT based racing in on of their recently acquired Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4's.

Having acquired two AMR Vantage GT4's for clients from Academy Motorsport back in March Miedecke senior took Ute and Production car racer Jeremy Gray for an early spin in one of those cars whilst that owner was deciding which series to run the car in. It was expected to see it in that GT4 race within the Australian GT Trophy Championship that started last month but that wasn't to be.


We understand that over this weekend, both Miedecke and Gray will be running the car within the New South Wales Motor Racing Club Championship event that is taking place at their 'local' Sydney Motorsports Park circuit. That shall see the AMR V8 compete against older generation Porsche and Audi GT3's amongst others more 'native' models.

With Miedecke Stone Motorsport actively promoting the Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 in Australia we expect to see them enter (with clients) other State series as they bolster their own collections of such cars to run in those and other National and International Series.

With the start of the Australian Endurance Championship just another week away, it seems that we may be seeing fewer Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3's that what we have perhaps become used to.

Firstly, it appears that series promoter Tony Quinn has parted company with his own V12 Vantage GT3 that he raced for most of the 2016 Australian GT and Endurance Championships in its Darrell Lea livery before swapping to his McLaren 650S at the end of last year.

We believe that we know who the new owner is but we shall leave any announcements of its future racing plans in their capable hands.


Secondly, it appears that fellow AMR runners, the Miedecke Stone Motorsport team may also only partake in a much reduced Australian Endurance Championship entry as they remain focussed on a possible Pro Pro entry for next years Bathurst 12Hr.

Speaking with George Miedecke earlier this week, he suggested that it is likely that the team would return to the championship only at the Sydney Motorsport Park 501 event in August - the race that he and his co-driving father, Andrew Miedecke won last year.


Meanwhile, the team have also secured another new AMR V8 Vantage GT4 that is being sent across to them about now, a car that is in addition to the two used platforms that they acquired for clients late last year/early this year as they look to expand the marque in the still developing Australian and Far East arena.

One of those cars is due to be raced within a State championship next weekend with Andrew Miedecke co driving.

Its hard to believe that in the midst of an extremely busy British GT pit lane, with thirty odd racing cars screaming past you on the banking at full pelt that the sight of a single person could be singled out for particular attention.

Well, thats what happened last weekend at the second round of the British GT Championship when a certain gentleman was observed talking in depth with the Prodrive engineers associated with the TF Sport team.

His face looked familiar but we couldn't put a name to him - well not until we heard him speak to others closer by in a very near neighbouring GT4 team garage. Its not everyday after all that you go to a race track in middle Northamptonshire and bump into Australian Endurance GT racer Andrew Miedecke!

What was he doing in old Blighty then? - shopping of course!! He didn't exactly say for what or from whom but there is a small clue (or two) in the photo!

This week saw Australian based Miedecke Stone Motorsport help a client acquire and shake down a recent purchase of his in the form of an Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4.

Speaking with the team we understand that the former Academy Motorsport car has been purchased by an as yet unidentified client of the team with an idea of racing it within the Australian GT Trophy Series with V8 Ute and Production Car racer Jeremy Gray behind the wheel who is himself reuniting past racing acquaintances with the Miedecke family.

2017 will be the first year that the Australian GT series has allowed GT4's to compete within any of its series .

Whilst the owner has yet to confirm the exact itinerary for the car, the five round 2017 Trophy Series starts in just three weeks time at Sandown Park near Melbourne but Gray (seen below with Andrew Miedecke) has already been reported to be "right on the pace from the off, expect him to turn some heads".


Finally and clearing up a small point, George Miedecke has confirmed that despite previous reports to the contrary, the team do not and have never had an AMR V8 Vantage GT4 of their own. The car photographed being tested by the teams and with the teams other GT3 cars previous to Bathurst was in fact the property of another client of theirs!!
