Having been part of the team’s dual Endurance Cup and Sprint Cup endeavours this season, the shorter and more frenetic rounds of the Sprint Cup have proved to be more to the young duo’s liking with a string of class wins over recent rounds for the #21 to seal their crown with Sunday’s finale still to come.
On track, the #21 seemingly did what they needed to do in style after they had again qualified in pole position within class, avoided all the first lap carnage that ensued around the tight and twisty Valencia circuit to eventually come home and claim another class win – or so we thought!
However, the #21 crew was to be one of many crews who would be penalised post-race as a result of the sister #11 Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 being stuck within a gravel trap immediately before the opening of the pit window.
Despite that post race time penalty and the crew then dropping down to P2 in the results, that was still enough for Day, Pauwels and the team to finally claim the silver class.
Congratulations to all involved.
