Jr III Racing will make its World Racing League (WRL) powered by Hagerty debut at Daytona International Speedway June 9-10.

After multiple tests with the platform, the WRL weekend marks the first competitive outing for the Charlotte-based squad with the Aston Martin Vantage GT4. The team has raced at Daytona’s famed road circuit in IMSA competition and is looking forward to returning to the track for its WRL debut.

The June WRL race weekend will include a test day on Friday followed by a 14 hour race on Saturday.

Jr III Racing will enter two Aston Martins into the top WRL class of GTO competition. The No. 48 Safe N Lock Storage Aston Martin Vantage GT4 will be piloted by Marc and Tyler Sharinn and IMSA GT regular Mike Skeen. The sister car of the No. 68 Airbnb entry will see Rina Balogh, Greg Liefooghie and Jr III Racing WeatherTech driver Garett Grist.

“We are excited to get down to Daytona,” said Jr III Racing team owner Billy Glavin. “We help out with the Chandler School when they compete at WRL events, but this will be our first time competing with our own machinery and full crew in the WRL paddock. The competition seems pretty stout, but that should make for some fun and intense racing.”

Jr III Racing has been preparing for its competition effort with the new Aston Martin Vantage program with multiple test days, with one last test at VIRginia International Raceway before heading to Daytona in June.

Jr III Racing will open its shop for the team's first fan day on Thursday, May 25th from 10a to 12p in Mooresville, North Carolina. The team will have merchandise available as well as giveaways. 

Publicly confirmed by the team only today sees Cameron Racing reveal themselves as the latest team in the USA to switch to the Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 for their 2020 season commitments.

In yet another deal secured by Aston Martin Racing's North American strategic partner, CSJ Motorsport, Cameron Racing have today confirmed their continued participation within the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Series having now switched from BMW starting at next weekends season opener from Daytona.

The Californian based team was established over thirty years ago by Team Principle Stephen Cameron over which time they have developed a wealth of knowledge in single seater, GT and historic motorsport.


Although the team have not quoted a specific driver line up, they have tagged in their 'resident' driver Gregory Liefooghe who (if you remember) borrowed a CSJ Motorsport Vantage GT4 with great success at last seasons Michelin Pilot Challenge race at Lime Rock Park with Ari Balogh where only late contact for the #09 car failed to produce an outstanding race result.

This news rekindles previous associations between Cameron Racing, Liefooghe and Aston Martin Racing.

Florida based Automatic Racing shall this weekend be fielding three Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4's at the Lime Rock Park round of IMSA's Michelin Pilot Challenge season.

Whilst the #99 Stoner Care liveried car shall remain the 2016 specification Vantage GT4 for drivers Kris Wilson and Gary Ferrara, the other two #97 and #09 cars will be the two 2019 specification cars that have raced for the team before with the latest chassis only joining them at the previous round at Canadian Tyre Motorsport Park.


The newer chassis' will be driven by Rob Eckin Jnr and Tom Long in the #97 Invisible Glass liveried car and by Ari Balogh and Greg Liefooghe in the principally white #09 car. The latter was the duo who were doing so well at CTMSP before an error at the final stop (spinning the rear wheels whilst the car was on the jacks) removed any chance of a debut podium

Yesterdays audition of Automatic Racing's latest Aston Martin Racing acquisition nearly saw its  driver crew compete for a podium in the latest round of IMSA's Michelin Pilot Challenge from Canadian Tyre Motorsport Park - had it not been for a simple pit lane transgression.

First seeing the new car displayed by the CSJ Motorsport organisation last time out in the series at Watkins Glen a couple of weeks ago, saw drivers Ari Balogh and Greg Liefooghe rekindle their former Sprint X partnership (also with an AMR Vantage GT4) to make remarkable progress in their new 2019 specification GT4, a car that they had only shaken down briefly at Sebring prior to this event.


Displaying what appeared to be a very simplistic yet thoroughly attractive multi-colour livery in the colours of Air BnN (a company that Balogh has direct connections with), that #97 car would race alongside the long standing Automatic Racing pairing of Kris Wilson and Gary Ferrera in the Stoner Car Care 2016, normally aspirated Vantage GT4.

Qualifying in P10 in class for the two hour race, Balogh soon messaged out his statement of intent posting successive fastest laps of the race in the opening quarter as he moved up to P5. The older #09 car of Ferrara was having no such luck as the venerable old Vantage struggled for pace to only just maintain a gap to the chasing TCR class yet alone challenge the leading GS cars.

Over ten minutes of the race was lost to a Full Course Caution after two TCR cars collided leaving one stranded just off track.  During the resulting wave around, that gave the  teams a chance to service their first stop and driver change placing Liefooghe in P14 overall and the #09 car of Kris Wilson down in P19 in class with just over an hour to go by the time they existed pit lane.


It was the now the turn of Liefooghe to pound in some quick laps in the sleek new Vantage GT4, quickly raising his track position up to P3 before many of the leading GS cars needed to pit for enough fuel to last the 40 minutes left to the chequered flag.

Pitting from just two seconds from behind the overall leader, the #97 car would be caught spinning its rear wheels whilst still on the car jacks - earning itself an immediate drive through penalty that would ultimately ruin its inaugural race.

Despite a further Safety Car period later that would leave just ten minutes of racing, that was sadly not enough for either AMR car to make any further in roads leaving them finishing in P10 for the #97 car and a class P19 for the #09 car.

It is hoped that this pairing see out the remainder of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge together.
