Team NZ go again in Thailand Super Series from Sepang
That means that the #7 Team NZ Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 of Grahame Dowsett and Romain Leroux will be back on track after their last round of the series from the improvised street circuit of the Bangsaen Grand Prix back in early July.
Having started the year well with a P3 class podium in the second race of the opening round at the Chang International, their Bangsaen adventure went even better as the dup secured a P3 finish in race one backed up with a P4 class finish in race two to now stand sixth within their Pro-Am Drivers Championship.

The rough and the smooth of global GT4 racing for two AMR powered teams at the weekend
Whilst there was class success from the Aston Martin Racing powered runners within the Iberian Supercar Series runners at the weekend, it was sadly not the case for the two stablemates from the Prosport Racing team as they battled out what was just the second round of the GT4 Germany Series from the Norisring.
First time out at Oschersleben saw both the #19 car of Hugo Sasse and Roman Fellner-Feldegg make their intentions known with both a P3 and P2 finish whilst the sister #17 car of Marek Bockmann and Anton Abee saw off earlier sickness to come back with a P6 finish in race two, so hopes were high for the challenges of the Norisring.
Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for the two Prosport Racing crews as whilst the #17 crew did qualify for race one upon the front row of the grid, later incident and accident on track saw them forced to retire just before the chequered flag.
The #19 crew would have to make do with a lowly P13 qualifying position with a P13 race result at the end of that hour before moving into a P17 start for Sundays finale but this time both cars failed to finish to end what was a miserable weekend for the team.
The only other light of encouragement was from the sole Aston Martin from the Earl Bamber Motorsport prepared Team NZ crew competing within the Thailand Super Series with drivers Grahame Dowsett and Romain Leroux again behind the wheel.
This time competing at the impromptu street circuit that made up the Bangsaen Grand Prix saw the #7 crew secure another P3 podium at the end of their first GT4/GTC race before backing that up on Sunday with a P4 finish.

Team NZ back out within the TSS visit to the Bangsaen Grand Prix
Now racing separately between the GT3 and GT4 classes, the Team NZ Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 of Grahame Dowsett and newly crowned Spa 24 Silver Cup Champion Romain Leroux again return to the fold within a combined GT4/GTC grid of approximately sixteen crews.
Last time out at Buriram at the end of May, the duo earned their first class podium together having capitalised upon a P2 overall starting position within race two to eventually finish P4 overall and P3 within their own GT4 Pro class after a wet race one washed out any possibility of a good finish.
Track action has already begun for the Earl Bamber Motorsport prepared crew with the first Free Practice session having now been run where the #7 crew finished fifth overall within their GT4/GTC class.

Solid start for the Team NZ squad at the Thailand Super Series opener
Returning for what we think is their third year within the series saw Grahame Dowsett joined by former AMR Drivers Academy winner Romain Leroux alongside him within his 17A version of the Vantage GT4 as they compete within the GT4 Pro class within the GT4/GTC races this season.
Heavy rain made its mark within Saturday’s opening hour long race after Dowsett had earlier qualified P5 in class, but a spin dropped him back to near last on track before a recovery drive from Leroux finally elevated them to P8 overall/P7 in class at the end.
For Sunday’s second race, Leroux had this time qualified the car upon the front row of the grid P2 overall and whilst pushing for the overall lead during the opening stint, had to settle for a P4 finish but third in class at the end.
The series now moves onto the Bangsaen Grand Prix in early July.

Team NZ back in TSS action from Sepang this weekend
The Earl Bamber Motorsport prepared Team New Zealand AMR Vantage GT4 are again the sole Aston Martin participants after the Viper Niza team moved across to the Mercedes AMG GT3 platform over the winter, as drivers Grahame Dowsett and Thai racer Ananthorn Tangniannatchai return to the #7 car.
Last time out at the improvised coastal circuit at Bangsaen, the #7 car finished second within their own GT4 Pro-Am class after the hour long, pit stop punctuated race to rest in tenth place overall within the GT4 Series.
This weekend’s events around more familiar surroundings (where the team tested their new car before declaring their intentions) will hopefully take the crew closer to that top step in class!

Multi podium success for Earl Bamber Motorsport and their global Aston Martins
Furthest from their native home of New Zealand saw the team enter the 24H Series twelve hours of Misano event for the first time under the name of Prime Speed Racing with drivers Heremana Malmezac, Liam Talbot and Earl Bamber behind the wheel of their new #42 Vantage GT3.
Having Qualified third within their elected Pro-Am class, the #42 car suffered from multiple punctures as well as technical issues and race time penalties that otherwise blighted a decent run. Their perseverance paid off however as they eventually came home P14 overall but more importantly P3 in class.
Then over in Suzuka in Japan, their #8 GT World Challenge Asia solo race of Setiawan Santosa enjoyed the best weekend yet within the series fifth round of the season by claiming a P3 in GT3 Am double for his efforts.
Finally, the team also had dealings with the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 efforts of the #7 Team NZ as drivers Graham Dowsett and Ananthorn Tangniannatchi also delivered the goods within the GT4 class of the Thailand Super Series visit to Bangsaen.
Competing within the GT4 Pro class, the #7 car would come home for a podium winning double with a P3 after race 1 and P2 after race 2.

Three racing stragglers to catch up with for this weekends activities
Around in Bangsaen, we see the Thailand Super Series return to the track with their second round of the season at this coastal improvised road circuit.
Making it a three-way global event for the Earl Bamber Motorsport team, sees the Team New Zealand AMR Vantage GT4 of Graham Dowsett and Ananthorn Tangniannatchi return with their #7 car ahead of this weekend’s two races.
Closer to home in Germany, we have both the ADAC GT4 Germany Series return with their third round of the season so far at the Norisring with the #55 Zakspeed Vantage GT4 of Phillip Gogollok and Jan Marschalkowski again the only AMR powered crews running within that series this year whilst Ultimate Cup Series also has one familiar face within its midst for their third round of the series from Hockenheim.
There, the #39 Racing Spirit of Leman Vantage GT4 racer of Baudouin Detout runs solo within the series Ultimate GT Sprint Cup races within the UCS4 class. Detout’s usual series is the GT4 European Series in the car he shares with Roberto Faria so he’s gaining useful data and experience for himself ahead of that series visit to the circuit in just two weeks’ time.

Hard graft for Viper Niza in the heat of Bangsaen street circuit TSS Grand Prix
Another frustrating weekend for the Viper Niza Aston Martin Racing team last weekend as they competed within the latest round of the Thailand Super Series from the coastal venue of Bangsaen.
Reminiscent of either Long Beach or Surfers Paradise, this street circuit based layout proved to be a difficult proposition for all the GT3 class grid as the tight circuit and tighter corners took their toll over the series two hour long races.
Having debuted their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 in the series last season as it supported the F1 package around the street circuit of Singapore, last weekend later proved itself to be much tougher and more frustrating for the drivers of the #65 car – Douglas Khoo and Dominic Ang after each qualifying session.
Finishing race 1 on Saturday in P5 proved itself to be the big success of the weekend as Sunday’s second race would eventually finish behind the Safety Car after the inevitable contact with the barriers for another unfortunate.
Next stop for the series will be at the Sepang International Circuit at the end of August.

Feathers Motorsport and Viper Niza round off this weekends Aston Martin customer racing action
This weekend’s somewhat restrained entry of just eighteen cars again sees the #82 Feathers Motorsport Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 of James Guess and Tom Canning entered within their GTH class as the red, white and blue Aston to hound those former Aston Martin racers of Paul Bailey and Ross Wylie at the head of the overall championship table as well as leading their own GTH class by a healthy margin at this midway point to their season.
As usual, Saturday and Sunday will be punctuated by each of the Championship’s solo sprint races for the amateur driver as well as a longer endurance (with compulsory pit stop) race later in the day per day.
Having skipped the Championship last year, Guess has certainly come back in fighting spirit in the races so far – usually securing a class podium finish per race to maintain their championship momentum.
Rounding off #TeamAMR’s racing commitments this weekend appears to be the return to track action for the Malaysian based Viper Niza Racing team as Douglas Khoo and Domonic Ang get trackside again with their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 at a very bespoke coastal street circuit in Thailand.
Perhaps ever so slightly comparative to Surfers Paradise in Australia, the Bangsaen Grand Prix event features a tight and twisty circuit layout with a paddock backing directly onto the local beach – extremely enticing we are sure considering the high ambient and high humidity levels there at the moment.
Two races per weekend, this event is the third of the Thailand Super Series so far this season after two consecutive rounds around the Chang International in Buriram earlier in April/May. Having had to rebuild their Vantage GT3 ahead of the opening round (from damage sustained within the Asian Le Mans Series), two sixth place class finishes sees the #65 Pro-Am crew sit P11 overall within the GT3 class going into this event.
