Janik Motorsport go for Sprint glory at final round of GT Cup Series at Balatan Park
Within what appears to be a reduced entry for this finale compared to earlier rounds will be the #73 Janik Motorsport AMR Vantage GT4 Evo that Petr Koukola will be racing solo within the two twenty-five-minute sprint races before pairing up again with team boss Vaclav Janik for the sixty minute plus one lap endurance round.
Despite a great start to the eight-round season with their (then) new car, recent results have seen the #73 car’s chances slip within both the sprint and endurance drivers championships.
Koukola sits fifth within his GT4 Sprint Drivers Championship but with two races still remaining, up to fifty points on offer and only nine crews listed for the event, that situation could obviously improve somewhat being just 12.5 points behind the present leader.
Within the GT4 Endurance Championship, Janik finds himself in a similar position (as Koukola did not participate within all endurance rounds with him so on a differing points tally but with just one race to go does not have the scope to bridge the 27.5 points deficit to the present leaders after the previous round at Brno.

Janik Motorsport still chasing Sprint and Endurance title battles as GT Cup reaches Brno this weekend
For this fifth round to the season, the Janik Motorsport Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 Evo pairing of Petr Koukola and Vaclav Janik will again be in attendance with their #73 car as the former will again take on the solo driven sprint rounds with Janik (or both) competing within the longer endurance race.
Results after the previous round from the Slovakia Ring two weeks ago saw another pair of P2 finishes for Koukola as well as the same for Janik in the endurance race that leaves Koukola third and just eleven points behind the leader in Sprint whilst Janik sits second in GT4 Endurance albeit thirty points behind the leading crew with two rounds remaining.

The GT Cup Series moves back to the Slovakia Ring for its penultimate round
Within an expected mixed class entry list of up to twenty-six cars per race type with the #73 Janik Motorsport Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 Evo of both Petr Koukola and Vaclav Janik who will again compete within both race types with Koukola expected to race the two sprint races individually.
Last time out at Most, Koukola managed a P4 and a P3 finish in class at the end of the two sprint races before the pair of drivers finished a P4 finish at the end of the one-hour endurance round.
With this and the final round from Brno still to come, results so far leave Koukola P5 within the GT4 drivers in Sprint with Janik now third in Endurance having raced solo from Koukola at a number of rounds so far.

Another podium for the Janik Motorsport AMR team as they raced a race with a race at the weekend
Being featured as just a three-hour endurance race, we were somewhat perplexed to see the #73 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 Evo of Vaclav Janik and Petr Koukola being listed as a DNF within that three-hour race. Subsequent news from the series confirmed that the #73 and a couple of others that had only competed within the first hour as part of the sprint commitment rather than this elongated endurance round.
With that being known, the award of a P2 class finish for the AMR crew became more understandable as they and the series now look forward to a more traditional two sprint – two endurance round race format from the Lausitzring next weekend.

Debut podium success for the Janik Motorsport AMR team in the GT Cup Series this weekend
It was a rather successful start to this Aston Martin Racing powered campaign this season for the Czech based Janik Motorsport team as they competed at their first round of the GT Cup Series (ESET Cup Series) from the Red Bull Ring with their Vantage GT4 Evo.Another series that permits multiple class of GT cars as well as single seaters within other races, the GT Cup Series started in Austria with a pair of twenty-five-minute sprint races followed by an hour-long endurance race for their twenty-six-car entry.
Czech drivers Petr Koukola and Vaclav Yanik got their AMR racing account off to a flying start within Saturday’s opening endurance round within they finished P18 overall and P2 in class.
That success was then continued into Sunday where Koukola ran solo within the two sprint races to finish P4 in class after the first and with another visit to the podium of his own with a P18 overall/P3 in class finish after race 2.
The series now moves onto the Slovakia Ring in early June.
