Lower numbers but finer AMR quality as ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany kicks off at Oschersleben this weekend

Five years since we last saw the Aston Martin Racing brand represented within the ADAC GT Masters Series with Prosport Performance as it was then (now Prosport Racing), this weekend we see the Walkenhorst Motorsport team rekindle that relationship as they enter two of their new 2024 Vantage GT3’s.

Back then, we saw the name of Mike David Ortmann coming to the forefront of the supporting ADAC GT4 Germany Series and at this weekend’s opening from Oschersleben, we see David Ortmann part of the Walkenhorst GT3 assault.

Partnering multiple series racer Denis Bulatov aboard the #34 car, they will come into this weekend’s two race format with American Chandler Hull alongside former Doer Motorsport ADAC GT4 Germany racer Nico Hantke aboard the #35 car.

Just sixteen GT3 entries are listed for this first round of a six-round season.

Like the GT Masters above, the ADAC GT4 Germany Series has also seen a downturn on entry numbers overall and from the Aston Martin Racing stable as this weekend the AMR brand is represented by just one crew.

What this series lacks in numbers, sees the #55 ooze in quality after the East Side Motorsport team entered into a partnership of their own with German racing powerhouse Zakspeed to come up with a driver pairing of Jan Marschalkowski and Phillip Gogollok within the #55 car.

One of twenty-four entries for this weekend’s opener, the GT4 Germany Series has never disappointed in competitive racing.

A possible eight AMR Vantage GT4 entry into this seasons ADAC GT4 Germany Series that starts this weekend

A possible eight AMR Vantage GT4 entry into this seasons ADAC GT4 Germany Series that starts this weekend

Unlike the craziness of last weekend’s racing action, this coming weekend is thankfully somewhat quieter with just a couple of series hosting events involving Aston Martin Racing customer and partner teams, and both from venues within Germany.

The ADAC GT4 Germany Series kicks off its 2022 campaign this weekend from Oschersleben with a mighty eight AMR Vantage GT4 crews being shown amongst the twenty-nine entries listed so far for the opening round.

One of those listed from the German based Racing One team still has TBA denoted against the driver names together with another previously announced entry from the Team Speed Monkeys now not being listed at all, despite being ‘confirmed’ by the team earlier in the year.

Last week we saw Racing One confirm their first full season entry for both Tom Wood and Euan McKay making a possible brace of cars for the team in the series as well as two cars from the PROsport Racing team for both Hugo Sasse/Mike David Ortmann and Yevgen Sokolovskiy/Christopher Rohner and the four cars from the Doer Motorsport team.

That sees that team increase their series entry from one full season car to four having also ran two cars in the series at the end for brothers Ben and Phil Dorr.

Also having a change around in drivers from last season sees Ben Dorr now being partnered with 2021 FFSA GT4 Silver Cup Champion Romain Leroux, Phil Dorr with Indy Dontjie, Nico Hantke now with Simon Connor Primm and two GT debutants together in brothers Sandro and Juliano Holzem.

Like many GT4 series these days, the ADAC GT4 Germany runs two one-hour long pit stop punctuated races per weekend across its six-round season.

After having the second round of the VLN Series snowed off earlier this month, round three takes place this weekend and features names already announced by Aston Martin Racing as featuring in this years factory plans for the forthcoming ADAC Zurich 24H race later in June.

As part of the two car factory supported GT4 entry effort into the big race sees that likes of newly recruited AMR Junior driver Jamie Chadwick pairing up once again with the Nordschleife guru that is Peter Cate in an AMR Performance Centre prepared Vantage GT4 in the SP8T class. They will be joined this weekend by both Chris Goodwin and Christian Gebhardt in the #156 car.

Also competing at the VLN3 event on Saturday will see the return of both Martin Brundle and Alex West aboard the #150 AMR Performance Centre GT4 in the SP8 class as both of these drivers make their way to a full GT3 Nordschleife Permit in time for June. Both drivers missed out on the weather effected VLN2 by virtue of their prior commitments in both F1 and Blancpain GT respectively.

Rounding off the trio of cars sees the return of both Marco Muller and Tony Richards again in the Vantage GT8 that they (with others) shall also race at the N24.

The ADAC GT Masters Series finally gets under this weekend from the 3.6km circuit at Oschersleben in central Germany.

Two AMR Vantage GT3's from the PROsport Performance team will be entered into the series and will compete under the PROpeak Performance banner. Their four driver line up will consist of AMR Factory driver Maxime Martin with Daniel Keilwitz as well as drivers new to the series in Hugo de Sadeleer and Valentin Hasse-Clot for their two opening races on Saturday and Sunday.

That series in in turn supported by the ADAC GT4 Germany series within which again we will see see the PROpeak Performance team enter two AMR Vantage GT4's as a third stage to a hectic schedule of GT4 racing of theirs in this and the GT4 European Series and 24H Series as well.

Drivers Florian Thoma pairs with Jeremy Lesoudier and Joonas Lappalainen pairs with Joerg Viebahn.

The International GT Open Championship opens its 2019 account this weekend with the first of a series of seven double header weekends starting at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France.

Returning to the Championship will again be the Optimum Motorsport pairing of Ollie Wilkinson and Bradley Ellis this time in their new Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 that they raced so will in at the opening rounds of the British GT Championship from Oulton Park last weekend finishing with a P3 overall podium in race 1.

The duo have already tested at the circuit at the official winter test there back in February but that was early doors for them having only just received the car from the Prodrive factory. Despite that, they still finished seventh quickest at the end of the first day of testing.

After an emphatic win at the opening five hour endurance round from Suzuka, Japanese based D'Station AMR Racing return to the Pirelli Super Taikyu Series for its second round from the Sugo Circuit in the north of the country.

Local drivers Satoshi Hoshino and Tsubasa Kondo are once again due to be joined by AMR factory driver Darren Turner for the shorter three hour race aboard the teams #777 AMR Vantage GT3 (ST-X) class car on Sunday.

Thats another hectic schedule of #TeamAMR racing from around the world - good luck to you all!

Catching up with the weekends events

PROsport Performance, who are undertaking their Aston Martin Racing activities under the PROpeak Performance banner have just started the three day Official Test for the German ADAC GT Masters Series at the Oschesleben circuit.

Originally thought to involve all four cars entered into either the ADAC GT Masters or ADAC GT4 Germany Series, it appears that the team had yet to receive their second GT3 Vantage from the Prodrive factor in time for the test.

That means that drivers Maxime Martin, Daniel Keilwitz with Hugo de Sadeleer and Valentin Hasse-Clot will have to share the one available GT3 car over the expected seven hours of available testing unlike the teams four GT4 drivers who can now get to grips with their new cars. The first hint of one of their GT4's new livery was also published from their garage today as well as some video of both cars posted on-line by the Series and they both look great!

The Racing Endurance Legends Series attended opened their first racing account of the season at the Catalunya Classic Revival around the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona this weekend for two, thirty minute races.

In the midst of their eighteen car grid were two GT's from the Aston Martin racing stable - a 2007 DBR9 of Kriton Lendoudis and Ruis Aguas and the former Shaun Lynn (Former JMW) Vantage GT2 now in the hands of Franz Wunderlich and Peter Praller.

By virtue of being the only car in the GT1B class, the #009 GT1 car finished both races at the top of the board whilst the #92 GT2B car finished P5 and P4 in class.

The Series next outing will be at the Spa Classic in mid May.

In other 'historical' news over the weekend came the attendance of the RoFGo Collection Aston Martin Racing Lola DBR1-2 at the Goodwood Members Meeting for the Le Mans prototypes high speed demonstration run on Saturday evening.

Friday saw the latest covert to Aston Martin confirm their plans for 2019 as Spanish team Team Virage confirmed the purchase of two new AMR V8 Vantage GT4's for entry into the new SRO GT4 South European Series. With all the races within Spain, this appears to be a logical, progressive step for the open wheel/prototype team as they embark into GT racing for the first time with just one car so far confirmed for drivers CO Jones and Freddie Hunt.

Due to the lateness of their order, the team do not expect to receive their cars until until after the start of the season in Nogaro in mid April.
