Volante Rosso revert to how it all began for them and their Aston Martin for next round of the GT World Challenge Australia Series
At the opening round to the 2026 season that was raced at Phillip Island back in late March, the #14 Volante Rosso AMR Vantage GT3 was then raced by both Alex Gardner alongside Lee Stibbs where the Trophy Classed duo secured P2 and P1 finishes at the end of those two one-hour races.
“I’m really looking forward to coming back to rejoin Volante Rosso in the Aston Martin at The Bend,” Porter said. “It was great to be part of the team’s very first event with the Aston back in 2024, and since then, they have brought that package a long way. The car is sorted, the team knows it really well, and there’s no reason why we can’t be in a position to fight for a good result”.
Volante Rosso take an early lead in Trophy class after Round 1's adventures
Again racing the team’s older 16A version of the Vantage GT3, this season has seen the return of their ‘young gun’ Alex Gardner being paired with GT3 debutant racer Lee Stibbs within the team’s #14 as they also managed a parallel programme with a McLaren GT3.
Both hour long races followed a similar pattern as early Safety Cars kept the opening laps to a more sedate pace as cars were extracted from both the gravel traps and from differing parts of the racetrack – all incidents that the #14 had managed to stay fortunately clear of.
Race two would see Gardner fortunately placed out of harm’s way at the rear as again, two more cars were sent spearing through the gravel track to turn one – again bringing out the safety car.
The next round to the season will be from the Bend Motorsport Park in early May.

Volante Rosso confirm a two car GT World Challenge Australia challenge in 2026
Despite our trepidation yesterday regarding this weekend’s racing situation as far as Aston Martin Racing powered teams were concerned, news overnight from down under thankfully see us as being proven wrong (again) as there will be a Vantage GT3 pounding the beat around a racetrack after all.
That news has come from the Australian based Volante Rosso team who last night confirmed a two GT3 car entry within their domestic GT World Challenge Australia Series entry which starts this weekend from Phillip Island.
Gardner did start the team off with their AMR acquisition later on in the 2024 season before Liam Talbot and Declan Fraser/Jamie Day competed togther in 2025.

Volante Rosso aiming to regain their points momentum in Queensland
Fourteen crews return for this weekend’s third round of the GT World Challenge Australia Series as Queensland Raceway this time plays host to the SRO series.
Having had something of a great start to the season, the Volante Rosso Aston Martin Racing team of Liam Talbot and Declan Fraser has something of a reality check last time out as the series raced both a night and day race from Sydney Motorsport Park.
Having scored a near maximum twenty-eight points at the season opener from Phillip Island, SMP only delivered the #1 AMR Vantage GT3 crew with just seven points over the two, hour long races which has dropped them down to fourth in their Pro-Am class.
Since then, Fraser has just been named within this year’s Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy process which will see him get both remote and personal driver coaching assistance which will hopefully see the #1 car elevate itself within the championship by the end of the weekend and at the halfway stage to the season.

Volante Rosso AMR aiming for better in Sydney Motorsport Parks opening night race on Saturday
This time gunning for outright glory, the Sydney based team has taken on board the racing talent of both Liam Talbot and Declan Fraser within their older 16A variant of the AMR Vantage GT3 but that certainly didn’t hold the duo back at the opening races at the start of the month.
Suffering disqualification from both Qualifying sessions for technical reasons after the event, the #1 car had to drive through the pack to secure a P5 finishing position at the end of race one whilst on Sunday they went even better to finish upon the podium in P2, narrowly missing out with a race win such was their pace.
Now more settled into the surroundings, the #1 crew will obviously be looking for something better in qualifying that will put them in good stead against their fourteen other race rivals around the 2.4-mile circuit layout.
Race one on Saturday will be a night race with a 19:55hrs local time start (sunset 17:13hrs local) before resuming normal service on Sunday with a 14:10hrs start to the second hour long race of the weekend.

Rags to riches for the Volante Rosso AMR at Phillip Island at the weekend
Sporting a brand-new livery and a new driver pairing of Liam Talbot and Declan Fraser, the team sadly hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons after Qualifying when the car failed its post session technical inspection through not being able to produce enough of a fuel sample for the stewards.
That lost the car pole position for Talbot’s Q2 session and would place the 16A variant of the Vantage GT3 at the rear of the grid for both races within the fifteen strong grid for the opening two, hour long races.
What happened next however was nothing short of remarkable as Talbot took the opening stint for race one as he quickly established a top ten running position within the opening laps. A Safety car for a stranded Audi in the gravel only helped to close the gaps for when the race went back to green just a few minutes left to the opening of the put window with the #1 car in P8.
Stops over and the #1 car resumed its P8 running position with Fraser now aboard before a second Safety car intervention was required (unsure why) which again, closed everyone back up. A late puncture for one car and a post-race time penalty for another was enough to lift the Volante Rosso AMR up to P5 overall at the end.
Sunday’s second race was much of the same as the Aston Martin again started from the back of the pack with Fraser this time behind the wheel where this time, he gained significant early places within the opening laps.
Getting into the top ten overall at the midway point to his stint, Fraser was also hanging upon the heels of those in front looking for that further passing opportunities before pitting from P11.
Starting their final stint of the day, Talbot was immediately on that charge as he passed into P10 and up to P6 overall with still fifteen minutes remaining. A puncture and spin for the Porsche and a DTP for the race leading Audi all helped again to lift the #1 into a podium contending position with just seven minutes remaining as rain threatened overhead.
With drops of rain now steadily falling, Talbot was the fastest car on track with just two laps remaining but the distance to first was just too great with diminishing grip for him to push safely for the win. Last to second on the podium would be their ending to the opening race weekend!
Next stop Sydney Motorsport Park at the beginning of May.

Volante Rosso indeed fly the AMR flag solo within GT World Challenge Australia this weekend
The GT World Challenge Australia Series kicks off its six round 2025 season this weekend with a two race visit to Phillip Island for its eighteen strong GT3 grid.
As per previous posts regarding the Volante Rosso entry, they will indeed remain the sole Aston Martin Racing entry for this round and possibly the season as the KMB Motorsport team have elected to run their Bentley GT3 this time around rather than their V12 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3.
Still racing within the Pro-Am class, the Volante Rosso AMR V8 AMR Vantage GT3 will be driven by GT World Challenge Australia Sprint Cup racer Liam Talbot alongside Supercar’s racer Declan Fraser within a car that will be displaying its third livery design since coming to the team from the USA last year.
Volante Rosso do themselves proud around the Mountain in the Intercontinental GT Challenge
Having started the race still in the dead of night at The Mountain, reigning British GT GT4 Silver Champion had the honour of starting Volante Rosso’s one-off entry within their ‘local’ event from eighteenth of the grid of twenty-two remaining cars. Having never tested at the circuit in the dark in the build-up to Sunday morning’s start, the young Englishman did what he needed to do the get the car through into more sustainable daylight racing hours and preserve that position whilst others were failing to do so.
Unfortunately, the #14 was blighted with a number of avoidable penalties in the first half of the race for pitstop and Safety Car procedures which then pushed the car back down the order as the race hit the heat of the mid-day sun but by the halfway stage, they were still running within the top ten and leading their silver class too.
Passing through their usual driver sequence of Day, Villagomez and back to Aussie racer Jaylyn Robotham, trouble finally came their way with just three hours and fifty minutes remaining when Robotham brought the car into pit lane for an unscheduled visits, and to be wheeled back into their garage with transpired to be clutch related issues.
Despite the herculean efforts of the team, the #14 Aston Martin lost over an hour in the garage whilst repairs were made but with just three cars circulating within silver, any finish would at least earn all a deserved podium finish, so their battle quickly became that of race preservation to be able to be classified at the end.
Eventually being able to repass the tail of the GT4 class, Day was able to bring the #14 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 home in P13 overall and P3 in class for all their efforts – a great undertaking considering their ages and experience against the best cars and drivers in the world.
All we need to find out now is just where will both Day and Villagomez emerge within the European based GT scene (with GT3 we are sure) and who will Volante Rosso have within the car for their return to the GT World Challenge Australia Series that starts on Phillip Island in early April.

Mixed fortunes for the two AMR runners at Phillip Island
Season long entrant again saw the #38 KMB Motorsport V12 Vantage GT3 of Valentin Astuti and Darren Currie within the Trophy class as well as the new #14 Volante Rosso 16A version of the car for drivers Alex Gardner and deputising driver Ross Poulakis running again in Pro-Am.
Saturday’s race opener saw both cars qualifying close to one another in P9 and P11 respectively but whilst the #14 car would eventually be able to complete their first race within the series at their third attempt, the #38 car was another unfortunate DNF.
It was something of a role reversal in Sunday’s second hour long race after the #14 car was tagged by a backmarker whilst being overtaken where contact spun the green and black Aston Martin into the gravel.
Whilst the #38 car was the last of the runners quantified as finishing, they did earn themselves a second-place finish in class.

Four Aston Martins also keep us occupied in the Australasia theatre of motorsport this weekend
For the Asian side of the equation, this weekend will be their penultimate round of their seven round overall season but also the final round of their Japan Cup sub-Championship.
Championship wise, the Japan Cup Series will conclude this weekend and whilst mathematically possible for the #47 D’Station Racing crew to win the overall GT4 Drivers title, the odds of overcoming the thirty-six-point deficit are slim but the pairing do still rest joint second within the drivers table as well as still fifth within the GT3 Am Drivers Championship having started the four-round season with a new Vantage GT4. The pair have certainly been steadier since reverting back to the GT4 based platform.
For the overall Championship, there is still Okayama and a season finale from Shanghai later in September but sadly performances to date for the Fuji Speedway based team sees the #47 pairing languishing down in P11 within the Pro-Am class whilst as steady and consistent points haul for Santosa sees him in sixth place within the GT3 Am class, sixty two points behind the leader but with one hundred points still on offer from the four remaining races of the season.
Then over at Phillip Island, the GT world Challenge Australia Series will be running its fifth round of a seven-round season at the GT Festival event.
This time of course, two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3’s are entered – one being the season long Trophy class entry for the V12 Vantage #38 KMB Motorsport entry of Valentin Astuti alongside an as yet TBC co-driver for this event.
It’s a similar case for the #14 Volante Rosso AMR Vantage GT3 entry of Alex Gardner who this week has Spiros Poulakis alongside him in his new car as Ben Porter is already otherwise engaged within the GT World Challenge Asia Series in Japan. Poulakis joins the #14 car from the other side of the team garage as his usual co-driver is this time partnered by a one David Brabham in their Mercedes AMG GT3.
For the Volante Rosso team, the previous round from Queensland was certainly a true baptism of fire for the young Radical driver and their just acquired AMR Vantage GT3 from the States after an unfortunate incident at the end of Q2 saw the car impact the tyre wall and sustain damage that could not be rectified at the circuit. Hopefully this time, they will get to race their car for the first time!
Both series and both venues will operate a Q1, Q2 and race 1 format on Saturday with race 2 on Sunday.

The trials and tribulations of GT racing down under for the two AMR teams in GT World Challenge Australia
Whilst it was business as usual again for the Trophy classed entry from the venerable #38 KMB Motorsport V12 Vantage GT3 of Valentin Astuti and Darren Currie whilst it was certainly a bunch of new as the Volante Rosso team debuted their ‘new’ turbo charged Vantage GT3 for drivers Alex Gardner and Ben Porter in the #14 car.
Not yet upgraded to the new 2024 version, the older style of car certainly raised the awareness again of the AMR platform and having both turbo and V12 versions out on track must have been special for those attending.
However, an unfortunate off for Porter at the end of his Qualifying session meant that simple due to the lack of availability of parts within Austral-Asia for that car, timely repairs could not be effected, and the #14 car was sadly withdrawn from the remainder of the event.
Race one also sadly went much the same way for the #38 car of Currie as having started from P11 of an eighteen strong grid, the #38 failed to make the finish but race two was much better after a P15 starting position eventually transferred into a top ten finish as well as securing the Trophy class win.
Volante Rosso intend to be back in business by the time of their next round from Phillip Island in three weeks’ time.

A V12 Vantage GT3 races again in GT World Challenge Australia this weekend from Phillip Island (UPDATED)
It may be a case of unfinished business for the Trading Garage Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 of Michael Bailey in this weekend’s opening round of the 2024 GT World Challenge Australia Series from Phillip Island.
Named within a provisional entry list of seventeen cars, the #38 car will however be the only car within the series Trophy Class as the other entries elected to compete within the dual driver Pro-Am and (also mainly) solo driven Am classes.
It’s been just over three years since we have seen Bailey compete within his V12 Vantage GT3 after he suffered a horrifying looking (but fortunately not) injury inducing accident in the opening race to the corresponding round of the series back in 2021.
Having raced back in 2021 with a tribute livery to passed owners of his V12 Vantage, we will have to wait to see if the team will do similar this year or race within their own livery design seen at subsequent events.
Young gun Valentino Astuti is a late driver inclusion for the opening round of the 2024 Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS this weekend.
The 2022 Australian Formula Ford champion has been recruited by Mike Bailey to race the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 in the Pro-Am class at the famous Phillip Island circuit.
After winning the Formula Ford title, Astuti competed in Super3 in 2023 before being recruited by Bailey for an opportunity in his popular Aston Martin V12 GT3.
An eventful visit to The Bend see advantages and disadvantages for the AMR racers
For some reason, a dramatic and exciting race during the mixed conditions that was Race 1 was not streamed to the wider global audience but at least Race 2 was with the events of the weekend making for some significant changes to the Championship standings so far.
Going into this round with a thirty-point advantage in the Championship Am class for Tony Quinn, a race win from the #51 Lamborghini crew of McPherson/Porter diminished that slightly but another P2 class position from the Scotsman and his 2019 specification AMR Vantage GT3 at least maintained momentum in his successive string of podium finishes so far.
Michael Bailey meanwhile had found his feet somewhat aboard his older generation V12 Vantage GT3 after two good drives last time out at Bathurst and off the back of a disastrous opening round at Phillip Island to at least get some Trophy Class points on the board. Although Race 1 was only to reward him with a lowly class finish (despite the conditions), confidence and speed was building within the #38 car.
Sundays Race 2 was back to what we expect for Australia with blue skies and warming temperatures as the pack went four wide into turn 1 before the #7 and #38 cars finally consolidated their P10 and P11 places respectively.
Fifteen minutes in and a heart in the mouth moment for Bailey as he came out of one corner wide and onto the still rain-soaked grass before recovering to almost immediately challenge Quinn for position ahead of their imminent pit stops.
Beating Quinn out of pit lane by virtue of a lesser pit stop minimum time, Bailey was now up to P10 overall and some eleven seconds ahead of Quinn as ‘issues’ mounted within the bright yellow Aston. Just as the race winners were taking the chequered flag, Quinn was grinding to a halt on track having run out of fuel whilst Bailey would take his best result of the season so far in P10 overall and P5 in class.
With the #51 Lamborghini taking their second class win of the weekend, these results saw Quinn drop down to P3 in class in the Championship standings – now five points behind the #51 crew with Bailey climbing up to P9 in the trophy Class – along way still behind the leader!
Next round is at Sandown in mid-September.

AMR success at The Mountain in GT World Challenge Australia
Joining him at The Mountain was the Mike Bailey AMR V12 Vantage GT3 that this time sported an equally colourful livery after its lengthy rebuild after the car’s sizeable impact with the tyre wall in the opening race of the first round at Phillip Island last month.
Whilst Quinn was able to take on the infamous 3.8mile public road circuit with confidence during Free Practice, Bailey kept things a little more reserved wanting to see out the full event at his first attendance at the circuit in his Vantage again in the presence of some sizable Aussie driving talent.
With race one yesterday, Quinn started fifth on grid (first in class) in the field of just seventeen runners whilst Bailey started further back in P12 as the Safety Car again set the clock in motion at the start of the warmup lap. Surprisingly and considering the Pro-Am nature of the grid, the race was to run its hour-long distance cleanly with no incident or accident out on track and considering the speed at which all were pushing the envelope – that was only a good thing!.
Quinn pushed former one time Bathurst V12 Vantage GT3 racer Tony Bates hard in his Audi in the opening laps with the two ‘senior in years’ drivers distinctly able to keep up with one another over the top. Bailey, meanwhile let the pack go through turn one on the opening lap unchallenged as he elected to take this steady this time with the thought of the solid concrete walls being able to cause more damage than a tyre wall!
As both Astons were with solo drivers again, both had to stop still in the allocated window but nothing more was required as both cars emerged in P7 overall – P1 in class for Quinn and P13 overall and P6 in class for Bailey by the end of the stop sequence.
Sunday’s second race was nice an early as the GT3/GT4 series gave way to the headlining 6Hrs of Bathurst saloon car race later in the day. Again, Quinn would start form class pole in P7 whilst Bailey started from a familiar P12/P5 position.
Going into turn 1 on lap one three wide probably wasn’t a good idea in reflection for Quinn but he got away with it whilst Bailey again elected to see out the long game as a better option than another early race exit.
This time the pro drivers were in the cars ahead and they disappeared into the distance as Quinn battled things out for his class rivals in the #51 Lamborghini which was to be the case all the way through to his stop at the halfway mark.
As Quinn enjoyed a two-horse battle ahead, Bailey was in the depths of a four-horse battle for P12 overall with the #9 Am Class Audi ahead before a bullish move saw Bailey get past for track position only.
Having just served their stops, an error from another of Quinn’s class rivals saw his car nudge the wall and lose a wheel in the Dipper bringing out the Safety Car for the first time that weekend. Fortunately, only seven minutes were lost to that incident and that left a thirteen-minute dash to the flag for the remaining runners.
A late pass for Quinn took him up to P6 overall for another class win at Bathurst whilst Bailey had his best result of the season so far with a P9 overall finish – just off his Trophy Class podium in P4.
With points now on the board for Bailey and a clear class lead for Quinn in Am, the Series now takes another short break before the third round at The Bend Motorsport Park at the beginning of May.
