David Pun secures runners up position in GTSSC in first season of GT3 racing
Belated congratulations to David Pun for securing the runners up position at the weekend in the inaugural running of the GT Super Sprint Challenge after another visit to the Shanghai International Circuit.
Racing in an Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3 for the first time this season (and indeed in the first AMR Vantage GT3 to be exported into the Chinese racing arena before later extending to a two AMR car team after the enforced break), both COVID and an incident later during testing threw ‘many spanners’ into the works for the Evisu fashion empire boss as the season was first delayed just after the opening round before he (and team co-driver Riokonig) swapped to an Audi R8 GT3 chassis at the last minute after an incident during testing left the Uno Racing team left them with only a single AMR serviceable chassis.
Wanting to finish the season out in an Aston, Pun returned to his fashionably liveried AMR for last weekend's event where he eventually claimed an overall P7 and P4 finishes during Saturday's wet finale - enough to conclude his runners up position in his AM+ class.
Working under the driver coaching of former British F3 racer Adderly Fong, the team now look to this months Macau Grand Prix event for their next action.

PROsport Racing miss out from early Qualifying pace at the Nurburgring
Consistency remains the aim for the two Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4’s of PROsport Racing after another round of the DTM Trophy that saw early promise in Qualifying fall short of their hopes and ambitions by the chequered flag.
This time racing at the Nurburgring for the third round of the GT4 series, the #1 car of Tim Heinemann and the #19 car of Mike David Ortmann had hoped for more after recent some post incident repairs after the last round of the series at the Lausitzring and subsequent testing before the weekend, and that was demonstrated with sound qualifying pace from both cars.
Amongst a grid of twenty-two cars, reigning DTM Trophy Champion Heinemann Qualified P5 whilst Ortmann was in P8 – his best place to date but whilst Heinemann barged his way up to P3 going into turn one, Ortmann found himself being pushed wide in into the gravel to recover down in P13.
With each of the two races only being thirty minutes long, that gave Ortmann little time to clean up his tyres and recover the situation whilst Heinemann would spend much of his time heavily defending his podium position from the Championship leading #85 Mercedes.
In something of a ‘calm’ race by recent DTM Trophy standards, Heinemann would finish to take his second podium finish of the season whilst Ortmann would finish P10.
For Sunday’s race, the cooler track conditions suited by Astons much better as the #1 car claimed a front row start in P2 whilst Ortmann would start from a season’s best in P7 however, poor starts again from both drivers saw that effort count for nothing as both dropped into the pack in P3 and P13 respectively.
This time it was the #1 cars turn to be shouldered out into the gravel which in turn dropped him further back to P6 with neither car seemingly having the race pace to recover. Despite some last lap passes, the #1 car would finish P5 and the #19 car in P13.
These results leave Heinemann way off the Championship leaders in P6 with less than half the points of the leader whilst Ortmann shows just three points from his four races since taking over the #19 car from Patrik Matthiesen after the Monza debacle.
The next round will be at the Red Bull Ring in two week’s time.

PROsport Racing going for better than last time out as the DTM Trophy hits the track of the Nurburgring
After two races at each of the previous rounds at both Monza and the Lausitzring, the DTM Trophy Series moves across to the Nurburgring for two further thirty minutes plus one lap races for the entered GT4 machinery.
The locally based PROsport Racing team should again enter their two Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4’s (again no entry list visible) into this round for their drivers Tim Heinemann (#1) and Mike David Ortmann, a driver who took over the #19 car after a parting of company between the team and Patrik Matthiesen after an ‘eventful’ season opener in Italy.
The last round around the tri-oval and infield track at the Lausitzring ended badly for the PROsport team with Ortmann finishing the highest of the pair in P10 in race one after a late journey through the gravel trap after a Safety Car for Heinemann before the reigning DTM Champion claimed Pole position for race 2 only to be taken out at high speed (literally) by an out-of-control KTM X Box going into the tight turn 2 on the second lap.
That impact inflicted immediate race ending damage to the #1 car leaving Ortmann as the sole runner in that race where he claimed his first points of the season in P10. Recent photos seen of the #19 car testing ahead of this weekend’s round will have seen the car bearing a front grille denoted with the AGS Racing name – that we understand is simple because PROsport sauced some parts from the French team but hadn’t removed the previous team’s details in time for that test.
The DTM Trophy entry will again contact a Qualifying session ahead of each race on both Saturday and Sunday.

New AMR teams steps up to the GT4 America as early as Road America next month
With plans still yet to be officially confirmed, we understand that it involves an established AMR team, using a 2019 AMR Vantage GT4 chassis with a distinguished provenance already and involves a driver line up of one who’s raced Aston’s before and another who steps across from another marque.
The next round of the GT4 America Series kicks off at Road America in just over a month’s time and this announcement is timely considering that we understand that the Notlad Racing with Rennsport 1 team will not be back amongst the SRO series until possibly next year.
This programme has been building slowly over the last few months with testing but that IS their car !!

Class podium for Team Virage in their return to the Ultimate Speed Series with their Aston Martin GT4
Racing again in the NAPA GT Touring Endurance event in their class 5A Aston, drivers Stephane Adler, Umberto D’Amato and AMR Drivers Academy participant Jose Antonio Ledesma finally got back to the Series after a COVID enforced hiatus of over a year to claim as solid result after today’s 4-hour race.
In another multi-class event, the #16 car finished P18 out of a grid ranging from top flight GT3 cars through to production based saloon cars.

Extra-ordinary scenes at Donington leaving Beechdean with a podium and Newbridge with a repair bill
Having held private testing at the circuit on Friday before more formally timed Free Practice and Qualifying sessions on Saturday, it was again the #27 Newbridge Motorsport AMR Vantage GT4 of Matt Topham and a substituting Darren Burke in for the Goodwood Festival of Speed busy Darren Turner who again stole the headlines by collectively qualifying their car on GT4 pole position ahead of Sunday’s two-hour race as they looked to follow on from their class win at the Silverstone 500 last time out.
The #7 Beechdean AMR Vantage GT3 of Andrew Howard and Jonny Adam would again speak of their car not quite performing just who they would otherwise expect it too, but none the less, they were still able to slot the car in eighth for the race.
As a sultry 20-degree ambient temperature welcomed the twenty three cars to the grid with all keeping one eye aloft just in case the warm, dry track surface would ever turn a bit wet how little did we know of what was about to take place as what happened next was quite frankly remarkable for sadly all the wrong reasons.
With ten GT3 cars thundering into turn 1 at Redgates, there is always the possibility of contact – and there was as the second placed WPI Lamborghini got tapped around only for the #63 Barwell Lamborghini to slam unsighted into the #18’s rear quarter putting both cars out of the race with substantial damage.
Even before the race had had a chance to go back to green from that incident, unseen contact involving the #27 Newbridge AMR of Topham as the cars suddenly concertinaed behind the Safety Car rippled through the chasing GT4 field in an incident that would remove three other GT4’s from the days proceedings. Thankfully, nobody appeared to be injured but several cars (including the #27) were left at safe positions around the track as the race finally went back to green – but with seven cars less than what the Championship race had started with!!
With the early loss of two GT3 Pro-Am Championship leading cars, that left the door wide open for those remaining to ‘make hay’ and soon dairy farmer Howard was pushing his #7 car up to P5 as the race finally settled. He would leave his best moment of the race till just before his pit stop when he made the most of the #11 Paddock Motorsport Bentley GT3 ‘reluctance’ in handling the final corner in any state of optimum performance to push that car wide onto the start straight before undercutting the defending #11 going through Redgates for P4.
Having waited for their allotted pit stop window, it was now Jonny Adams turn to see how far he could get the #7 car up the timing screen, but it didn’t look easy for him at all through the corners as well (the team did suggest traction control issues) that allowed the #77 McLaren to again pressurise the car for position.
Having also leapfrogged the #1 Barwell Lamborghini due to their additional time penalty at their stop it was now a battle for the final step of the GT3 podium for Adam and his now obviously struggling Beechdean AMR leaving the AMR factory driver nearly half an hour to defend his position from now two obviously faster cars immediately behind.
With the final minutes ticking by and with Adam still under immense pressure from the #77 and #1 cars behind, his own track limits warning from Race Control just added to the cauldron inside that Vantage but survive he did to bring home the #7 car P3 overall and P2 in GT3 Pro-Am.
By the end of that two-hour race only twelve cars finished but despite that and by our reckoning, that provisional result takes Howard and Adam up to co-lead of the overall title table and second in GT3 Pro-Am as the Championship looks to Spa Francorchamps in two week’s time!!
And a hearty well done to Team ABBA Racing too - from a broken car on Saturday to a race winning car on Sunday!!!

Dorr and Wirth looking for further progression in ADAC GT4 Germany's visit to Zandvoort
The third round of the ADAC GT4 Germany Series moves across the border to Zandvoort for another pair of hour long GT4 races around the scenic, yet sometimes treacherous coastal circuit.
Within an expected grid of about twenty-three cars will again feature the Dorr Motorsport Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 of Phil Dorr and Andreas Wirth. After their somewhat boom then bust opening round at Oschersleben back in mid-May where a deserved podium was followed up with an unfortunate DNF, the last round of the Series at the Red Bull Ring a month ago provided a more consistent result for the #69 car with a pair of P6 overall finishes with each P3 in their Junior class.
These early results from a six-round season have Dorr and Wirth sitting in P6 within the overall Championship and likewise in their class but with a lesser points deficit to the class leader.
We understand that their AMR GT4 has recently been back at the Prodrive factory in the UK for some fine fettling and the team can also look forward to some direct AMR factory technical support at this weekend’s event as well.
Up to 3000 fans are permitted to attend each day’s events with both races again being streamed live via the Series social media channels.

No AMR success in Britcar Endurance at this weekends visit to Silverstone
Their second visit of the year to the Northamptonshire circuit after the season opener back in April, Saturday’s round would this time be a two-hour affair for which attracted a four car AMR Vantage entry.
The #68 Team Brit entry for Aaron Morgan and Bobby Trundley had been scoring at least one podium finish per event so far but technical issues for these guys early into the day’s proceedings yesterday clearly had them on the back foot, from which they would not recover.
The top Qualifying AMR car was the #38 Vantage GT4 of Dale Albutt who would start from P22 overall and P6 in Class 4. They would be followed by the #68 car in P24/P8 and then the newer, turbo charged 2019 AMR Vantage GT4 of Chris Murphy just behind. The fourth car came in the form of Mike Coker’s Valour Racing #73 car who would start his first Britcar event from P27 (P1 in class being the only INV class car to run).
Having started upon a dry track it wasn’t long before the rain started to fall, initially only around parts of the circuit but not all of it as many hung on in there with their slick tyres.
We lost the #73 car with steering issues after only nine laps but the other three full season entries continued through rain and sunshine before the weather front eventually passed over.
With the weather having now stabilised to dry with periodic bouts of sunshine, the race was then allowed to flow through to its conclusion.
By the end of the two hours, Murphy was the highest placed AMR car P18 overall/P5 in class with the #7 Triple M Automotive AMR of Dale and Mark Albutt next in P20/P7. The #68 Team Brit car would conclude its day’s proceedings in a disappointing P23/P8
GT Cup back at Oulton Park with two AMR GT4 runners again
Never letting up in the race diary comes the fourth round of the GT Cup Championship this weekend from Oulton Park with another packed grid of multi-class GT cars.
Looking through the provisional entry list of over thirty cars, there again features two Aston Martin Racing GT4 cars from each of the Feathers Motorsport and Century Motorsport teams as the third expected car this time features on the entry list for the next round of the Britcar Endurance Championship from Silverstone on the same day.
The #15 Century car continues with their line up of David Holloway and Bradley Ellis as they have done all season so far after Adam Hatfield was unable to race from the opening round at Donington Park. Having claimed an opening P3 podium at Donington Park in early April, they have been tantalisingly close for further silverware at all of the subsequent rounds at Brands Hatch and Snetterton so they will be looking for something more in Cheshire.
They will be joined by the #82 Feathers Motorsport Aston of James Guess and a returning Tom Canning who again deputises for Darren Turner who won his first British GT race at the weekend with another customer team of his.
These guys had to wait nearly a week for their P2 finish in the final race at Snetterton at the start of the month to be changed to a class win after the original winner was found to be ‘contrary to Regulations’ but at least that helped to keep Guess’s trophy haul per round alive.
There still appears to be no sight or sound either from the Deranged AMR team after their dramatic arrival and achievements at the opening round from Donington Park!
This weekend features just two races on Saturday – a one hour race before lunch followed by a 40-minute race in the afternoon.

Heart of Racing claim North Island Endurance Series win at a rain soaked Pokekohe
Arriving at Pukekohe Park for the weekend’s final three-hour race, Alex Riberas and Darren Kelly were in points arrears to the #22 Audi R8 of Neil Foster and Jonny Reid but with the #22 car not competing at the final round, a race win was still essential for the team on count back if they didn’t!
Throughout a rain sodden race meeting, it was only fitting that former National Drift Champion Kelly secured his first pole position in the GT3 in such trying conditions having come so close last time out.
What followed next was almost a ‘demonstration run’ of prowess as the #52 car posted purple sector after sector as the laps passed by yet the rain continued to fall.
For the #111 GT-B class AMR Vantage GT8R of Steve Harrison and Shane Merlin however, their race would end before the end of the first hour as a long brake pedal forced them into the garage for lengthy repairs. They did finally make it back out on track towards the end but that was by then just a formality.
As the rain appeared to lessen, the #52 car eventually took the chequered flag with a three lap margin to secure not just another rave win in the Series but also to claim the overall and GT-A class wins as well. That goes nicely with their South Island Endurance Series win of 2020 – something that the team will be defending as that series kicks off in September.
Great job guys!

DNF blots copy book for AMR runners in Britcar's visit to Oulton Park
Today saw the third round of the Britcar Endurance Championship take place from Oulton Park with two older generation Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4’s within its midst.
For #68 Team Brit car of Aaron Morgan and Bobby Trundley, it was a case of trying to continue their string of podium successes following their results from both Silverstone and Snetterton rounds whilst for the #38 Triple M Automotive AMR of Dale and Mark Albutt, it was simply a case of getting ‘back into it’ having skipped the last round at Snetterton.
For the #68 car, Saturday’s event was simply a case of win some – lose some as they secured another class win during the first race but that was unfortunately marred with a DNF after spinning out and into the tyre wall after the hairpin during the meetings second hour long race.
For the #38 car, they would mark their return with a valuable pair of P4 finishes in both races as the Championship moves back to Silverstone in early July.

Misfortune of others cost Heart of Racing a win in North Island Endurance Series
After having to settle for second place behind the #22 Audi last time out at Hampton Downs, hopes were again high for today’s race as the #52 car claimed pole position, five places ahead of the #22 car going into today’s three-hour race with both cars tied for the Championship lead on 185 points each.
Also in the race again was the AMR Australasia Vantage GT8R of Steve Harrison and Shane Murland after their unopposed class B win at Hampton Downs two weeks ago.
Despite this event being Kelly’s and Riberas’ first competitive visit to the circuit, Riberas was soon off into the sunset as others held themselves up around a twisty, tyre punishing circuit but soon throttled back to conserve those tyres for the full expected hour duration of his stint. In the meantime, the Reid/Foster Audi R8 had moved up from P5 to P3.
Pitting from the lead at the seventy-minute mark, Riberas handed over to Kelly for what would be his only stint of the race again, but the #22 Audi stayed out in an attempt to gain track position.
Just before the halfway mark, a sickening looking accident for a young driver within a brand-new McLaren 570s GT4 with apparent brake issues brought out an immediate Safety Car. Losing the best part of an hour whilst the safety barrier and debris was repaired, another two-car spin on the green lap race left a two-horse race to the flag for the #52 and #22 cars but with each owing a final stop.
With forty-two minutes remaining the #22 assumed the race lead whilst the #111 car continued at the head of the non GT3 classes and would go on to take another class win.
For the #52 crew and Riberas short on minimum drive time by just one minute, their final stop came with less than three minutes remaining but unfortunately the damage had already been done with the #22 Audi having looked after its tyres more than the Aston to create a big enough gap to retain the lead and ultimately, the race win.
This result has Reid and Foster take the overall lead outright with just one round remaining!

Round 3 of European Le Mans Series for TF Sport from Le Castellet
First time out in a current GTE specification car after many years out of a car at the start of the season, this year is not about pretending to compete for overall Class titles for TF Sport’s latest Gentleman driver client John Hartshorne, rather than living the moment and the dream of competing again at the highest level of GT racing and (soon) at the home of endurance racing at Le Mans.
Driving the latest Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GTE under the watchful eye’s of Tom Ferrier’s team and co-drivers Ollie Hancock and Ross Gunn, Hartshorne has been noted as progressing nicely along his projected learning curve in time for him to re-savour the magic that is the Le Mans 24hr later in August, whether that be with a crowd or without!
Gunn returns to the team having missed the second round in Austria thanks to his new full season IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship commitments with the Heart of Racing team, a seat that was filled in his absence by fellow AMR factory driver Jonny Adam.
Hancock also came fresh to a modern GTE car at the start of the year and he has clearly been enjoying himself in this European series with the #95 car, competing within a class of nine other GTE cars amongst the grid (at Paul Ricard) of forty one cars.
Tomorrow (Friday) sees the first Free Practice session and bronze driver test of the round before moving to the second Free Practice and Qualifying on Saturday.
The race will begin at 11:00hrs local on Sunday.
We wish them well.

Next stop the Grand Prix D'Albi for the six AMR runners in FFSA GT4 Series
Having already competed at Nogaro and Magny-Cours for the opening four races of the season, the 2021 season is again proving to be another challenging year for the six Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 runners in all of the available Pro-Am, Silver and Am Classes that are available to them and despite podium finishes for some so far.
The AGS Events Racing team is again the largest AMR team in the series, fielding four cars for with single Aston’s apiece for the likes of Mirage Racing and JSB Competition.
The #007 Silver Cup car of Valentin Hasse-Clot and Romain Leroux head their class with three podiums and a DNF whilst in the Am Class, the #161 AGS car of Didier Dumaine and Christophe Carriere lead teammates Lauris Nauroy and Stephane Desbrosse in their #79 car by twelve points in P3 and P4 in Class respectively.
It is within the ultra-competitive Pro-Am class the three remaining runners are struggling with the #89 AGS car of Nicolas Gomar and Mike Parisy heading the bunch in P10 overall so far with the JSB Aston Martin of Julien Briche and Jean Laurent Navarro down in P17 and with the #38 Mirage car of Ruben del Sarte and Yves Lemaitre yet to score.
It will be interesting to see if the JSB Competition team return having withdrawn from the Magny-Cours event because of their apparent lack of pace rather than any specific incident or accident.
This weekend’s Grand Prix D’Albi again features two – one-hour races around this 3.5km circuit.

All eyes look to Paul Ricard this weekend for Rd 2 GT World Challenge Europe and GT4 European Series
With just the three-hour race down under in New Zealand serving as a slight distraction, most of our attention this weekend will be focussed on the Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France as nearly one hundred GT3 and GT4 race cars congregate for the second rounds of the GT World Challenge Europe and GT4 European Series respectively.
Amongst that satisfyingly strong number of entrants will again be the two Garage 59 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3’s that compete within the GTWCE Endurance Cup Pro-Am and Silver classes as well as the six AMR Vantage GT4 cars that are entered from the likes of the AGS Events Racing, Mirage Racing, Street Art Racing and Racing One teams throughout the available Pro-Am, Silver and Am classes that are available to them.
At their opening rounds of the season at Monza in mid-April, the #188 Garage 59 GT3 of Alex West, Jonny Adam and Chris Goodwin of course came away with a class win after heavy rain shook up the proceedings whilst in the GT4 arena, only the #18 Racing One car of Henrik Lyngbye-Pederson and Marcus Lungstrass came away from Italy with any silverware with an Am Class P2 in race two after two, typical season opening races.
What’s happened since then is that Aston Martin Racing have recently announced their fourth intake for their Drivers Academy with eight racers within these eight cars now part of that factory supported driver development programme so we hope that many of those who made basic errors of judgement last time out to arrive in France with a new, refresh mindset.
With the GT4 European Series again supporting the bigger GT3 programme, will should be seeing the likes of Lyngbye-Pederson/Lungstrass return with the #18 car, the #45 car of Akhil Rabindra/Hugo Conde, #27 car Cesar Gazeau/Konstantin Lachenauer and #89 car of Nicolas Gomar/Eric Herr from the AGS Events team as well as the #7 Street Art Racing car of Pascal Bachmann/Paul Theysgens and the #55 Mirage race car of Ruben del Sarte/Tom Canning for that series two – one hour races which will this time both take place on Sunday.
That is because the GTWCE event will this time be its traditional six-hour race into Saturday night starting at 18:00hrs local.
Joining the #188 car of West/Goodwin/Adam will be the team’s Silver Cup crew of Valentin Hasse-Clot, Alex MacDowall and Nicolai Kjaergaard aboard the team’s #159 car.
All these races are available to view live via their series social media channels.
