The weekend may have started with racing woe for one Aston Martin Racing powered team, it ended happily for the other as the Violante Rosso Vantage GT3 crew secured a much-deserved class podium finish at the end of today’s 12Hours of Bathurst.

Whilst the Vantage GT4 powered Team New Zealand entry of Graham Dowsett, Romain Leroux and Chris Van Der Drift were forced to lament there early exit from the event after a Free Practice accident for Dowsett saw the car receive non-repairable damage, things were certainly different a few garages up the pit lane for the Sydney based Volante Rosso team as The Mountain experience within the team certainly paid off.

Bryce Fullwood qualified the #14 car just ahead of the Heart of Racing crew (again competing within a Mercedes AMG GT3), P27 overall and third within Pro-Am as their attention soon turned to the early start to the race on Sunday.

With the thirty-four remaining cars taking the start around the unlit circuit, it was long before the characteristics of the circuit with one entry being literally taken out by a member of the local wildlife in what could have been a more horrifying than it already was accident. A second, non-related incident put paid to almost the first hour of racing with the race (proper) then restarting as the sun began to make an appearance of the horizon.

A brief spell of racing saw the #14 car move up the order several places before another sizeable off for another car around the top of the mountain saw the race again pulled back under the control of the Safety Car and there was still over ten hours to go but getting back to green saw Maxime Robin circulating within the top ten of runners!

As the race eventually settled down into a rhythm and the faster Intercontinental GT Challenge runners re-established their positions at the head of the pack, the #14 car again dropped back into the mid-pack as Andres Pato and Damien Hamilton took their turns behind the wheel as the race finally moved into its second half but not without further incident and accident on track.

The biggest drama for the team came just after the eight-hour mark as the #14 car was blocked on track by a spinning #79 Porsche only for the that car to be collected hard by the then race leading Mercedes that saw both cars destroyed and the track littered with debris, something which forced the race to be red flagged. Luckily, the #14 was no damaged within that incident despite being so close to the Porsche.

Losing eighty minutes to that clean-up operation, the race was back to green with 2.5 hours to go and too many laps difference between them and their class peers in front, it was a simply case for the team to keep running to earn themselves a Pro-Am podium finish at the end as their next class rival was another two laps back – which is what they did by finishing P19 overall for a job well done.

And then there was one Aston Martin at Bathurst as disaster strikes Team NZ down

Disaster struck the Team New Zealand racing team at the 12Hours of Bathurst earlier today when a Free Practice accident saw their #7 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 incur significant rear end damage after contact with the outside wall.

Having already circulated around the Mount Panorama circuit without incident for the Graham Dowsett, Romain Leroux and Chris Van Der Drift driven car, the #7 crew were the fastest GT4 classed crew sitting a respectable P33 out of the thirty-five strong runners after the first session available to them.

To end the day of track action was the second bronze driver only session of the day where Dowsett would again run solo with his like graded peers and for his twelve laps completed, was still the fastest of the two GT4 entries.

However, disaster struck the gentleman driver as #21 Herberth Porsche came through into Sulman Park where the line of the Aston Martin was disturbed and the car drifted out onto the marbles to back heavily into the concrete retaining wall. Not as visually spectacular as the R-Motorsport AMR Vantage GT3 at the same corner a few years ago, Dowsett was able to remove himself from his race car unaided and without injury.

Upon later inspection, the team have since confirmed that the damage is not repairable at the circuit and have since withdrawn from further proceedings as a result.

A sad ending for all concerned as that leaves just the Volante Rosso team again flying the AMR flag at the event within the GT3 Pro-Am class.

No great surprises when it comes to the livery designs for the two Aston Martin Racing powered cars entered into this weekend’s 12Hrs of Bathurst as both the Team New Zealand and Volante Rosso teams posted very familiar looking photos of their cars today.

After preparations at the circuit earlier, yesterday saw the annual pilgrimage from the circuit to the town of Bathurst for all the cars entered into this year’s event, something that also makes up the opening round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.

As we already know, Graham Dowsett, Romain Leroux and Chris Van der Drift will partner aboard the #7 Team NZ AMR Vantage GT4 (competing within that class) whilst the #14 Volante Rosso AMR Vantage GT3 will compete within the Pro-Am class with drivers Bryce Fullwood, Damien Hamilton, Andres Pato and Maxime Robin.

Today (Thursday) sees the first Free Practice sessions of the event before Friday sees four more Free Practice sessions before Qualifying and Super Pole shootout on Saturday. The race will again start early doors on Sunday.

The completed entry list ahead of next weekend’s 12 Hours of Bathurst has finally been confirmed by the race organisers with the two Aston Martin Racing powered runners finally being revealed in full as part of the thirty-five-car line up.

The ‘locally’ based Team NZ squad were one of the first to announce their commitment to the 2026 event as Graham Dowsett strives to make big improvements within his racing efforts alongside that of his driver coach Romain Leroux having spent the last two seasons or so competing within the Thailand Super Series.

They will be joined within the teams Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 by Chris Van Der Drift for this iconic event – which will also serve as the opening round to the Inter-Continental GT Challenge (which neither AMR powered team will part of) over the 14th and 15th February.

Joining them will be the more locally based Volante Rosso Aston Martin Racing team and their venerable 16A variant of the platform that promised and nearly delivered so much at the event last year.

Competing within the #14 entry this time around will be Australians Bryce Fullwood and Damien Hamilton alongside Indonesian racer Andres Pato and Frenchman Maxime Martin within their Pro-Am entry.

No details with car liveries at the moment but that will all come soon enough.

Team NZ commit to Mount Panorama and the 12 Hours of Bathurst next year

Team NZ commit to Mount Panorama and the 12 Hours of Bathurst next year

Better known for their racing exploits within the Thailand Super Series, it’s great to read that Team New Zealand have today confirmed a provisional entry within next year’s visit to Mount Panorama at Bathurst.

Racing again as the opening round to the Intercontinental GT Challenge Series for GT3 runners and as the Maguires 12 Hours of Bathurst race for other classes of entry, this news is certainly the first from any other Aston Martin Racing powered entry as team boss and racer Grahame Dowsett enters his 17A version of the race car.

Aston Martin Racing have now confirmed that the driver line up will be Dowsett and his long-term driver coach in Asia, Romain Leroux plus Chris Van Der Drift competing for the team in mid-February 2026.

Last time around in January this year, we saw the Volante Rosso AMR Vantage GT3 crew of Jamie Day, Matteo Villagomez and Jaylyn Robottom grab some early season headlines within their older specification Vantage GT3, eventually finishing third in class.

Team NZ to see out the Thailand Super Series from Chang International this weekend

Team NZ to see out the Thailand Super Series from Chang International this weekend

Just one last hurrah for the TeamNZ Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 crew as they return to the Chang International Circuit for the final weekend of the Thailand Super Series.

For the #7 GT4 Pro entry of Graham Dowsett and Romain Leroux, this 2025 season has been certainly something of an up and down season with the pairing securing decent point finishes over races 2,3 and 4 before dropping away again in the second half of the season to stand twelfth within their class going into this weekend.

Not the first time at the circuit of course as that is where their season started before they then ventured off around both Thailand and Malaysia over the course of the year.

Two more-hour long races to come with alternate starts for each driver as usual – just hoping that they can end their year upon something of a high!

The rough and the smooth of global GT4 racing for two AMR powered teams at the weekend

The rough and the smooth of global GT4 racing for two AMR powered teams at the weekend

Whilst there was class success from the Aston Martin Racing powered runners within the Iberian Supercar Series runners at the weekend, it was sadly not the case for the two stablemates from the Prosport Racing team as they battled out what was just the second round of the GT4 Germany Series from the Norisring.

First time out at Oschersleben saw both the #19 car of Hugo Sasse and Roman Fellner-Feldegg make their intentions known with both a P3 and P2 finish whilst the sister #17 car of Marek Bockmann and Anton Abee saw off earlier sickness to come back with a P6 finish in race two, so hopes were high for the challenges of the Norisring.

Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for the two Prosport Racing crews as whilst the #17 crew did qualify for race one upon the front row of the grid, later incident and accident on track saw them forced to retire just before the chequered flag.

The #19 crew would have to make do with a lowly P13 qualifying position with a P13 race result at the end of that hour before moving into a P17 start for Sundays finale but this time both cars failed to finish to end what was a miserable weekend for the team.

The only other light of encouragement was from the sole Aston Martin from the Earl Bamber Motorsport prepared Team NZ crew competing within the Thailand Super Series with drivers Grahame Dowsett and Romain Leroux again behind the wheel.

This time competing at the impromptu street circuit that made up the Bangsaen Grand Prix saw the #7 crew secure another P3 podium at the end of their first GT4/GTC race before backing that up on Sunday with a P4 finish.

This weeks AMR team news weekly rundown

This weeks AMR team news weekly rundown

Just before we settle down ahead of this weekend’s racing with more than a handful of Aston Martin Racing powered teams competing within both the USA and Europe, we just need to catch up upon a few things that came to light earlier this week.

Down under sees the Volante Rosso AMR team confirm their strongest driver line up to date within their Vantage GT3 that will run again within the GT World Challenge Series Australia – starting next weekend from Phillip Island.

No stranger to an Aston Martin, sees Liam Talbot join forces with young gun Declan Fraser aboard the teams older 16A variant for this six-round season. This re-alignment in driver personnel comes after Mateo Villagomez, Jamie Day and Jaylyn Robottom did so well within the car at the opening round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge from Bathurst earlier in the year.

From the head image, we can see in the background that the 17A car has change livery design again!

Staying within the SRO family of World Challenge Series, this week’s entry news from its Asia Series sadly saw no return of the D’Station Racing AMR Vantage GT3 (not as a full season entry anyway) but we are hoping for entries within the latter Japan Cup element of the season. Talking of whom, they will be at Fuji this weekend for the final two day Super GT test at their home circuit.

After last weekend’s Iberian Supercars Official Test Day from Estoril, the Racar Motorsport team have gone onto confirm two of their three AMR Vantage GT4 crew who they had testing at the circuit. Regulars with the team Mathieu Martins and Roberto Faria will run again within the Pro class in their #77 machine whilst the #78 Pro entry will be driven by GT4 graduates Henrique Oliveira and Luca Savu.

That leaves the third Racar crew to be confirmed as well as whether NGT Motorsports will be running their older Vantage within the Series.

Familiar AMR related teams across Europe have also been out testing this week – the Team Spirit Racing team are back with one of the Vantage GT4’s competing with Mathias Villadsen within the FX Series GT4 Italy Series. They will be racing at Mugello this weekend.

The Earl Bamber Motorsport prepared Team New Zealand AMR Vantage GT4 of Grahame Dowsett was also back in business this week with testing for the forthcoming Thailand Supercar Series at the Chang International Circuit alongside Romain Leroux. Just who will be his co-driver this year is yet to be seen.

Finally, the Racing Spirit of Leman have been busy testing at Paul Ricard today amongst their Ultimate Cup Series entries. Each posting the same video clip had Will Orton and David Kullman more than hint of some Vantage GT4 testing with the team there too for maybe even some racing this weekend?

The new Vantage GT3 scores its first podium finish in Thailand Super Series

The new Vantage GT3 scores its first podium finish in Thailand Super Series

There was a complete mixed bag of race results for the two Aston Martin Racing powered crews within this weekend’s triple header event from the Thailand Super Series from Sepang.

Having raced there just three weeks earlier, their final race there was abandoned even before it have begun after torrential rainstorm swamped the circuit so this time around, they mostly had one more race to make up for even before their scheduled night and day races.

Only the #7 Team New Zealand AMR Vantage GT4 of Graeme Dowsett and Ananthorn Tangniannatchai competed this make up race as far as these two AMR crews were concerned as the #11 Earl Bamber Motorsport entered Vantage GT3 of Earl Bamber and Anderson Tanoto were not at that event. For their troubles, the #7 crew earned themselves a P19 overall (but more importantly) a P9 in GT4 Pro-Am finish to start their weekend on something of a high.

Within the next race on Saturday evening, any highs from the #11 crew from Tanoto’s P6 Qualifying position were quickly snubbed out as a spin on the opening lap saw the new Vantage GT3 Evo narrowly missed by the chasing spun after the Indonesian overcooked things on cold tyres.

Despite eventually getting going again (and being many laps down) the #11 car retired from the night race at the midway point of the hour long plus one lap race format. The #7 crew would again see things out until the end with a P19 overall/P5 in class finish.

Then in Sunday’s concluding race it was better news for the #11 EBM Vantage GT3 after a P3 qualifying position was this time guarded and protected by the more experienced race in Bamber for Tanoto to bring the car home second overall for their first TSS podium finish. For the #7 crew, they would repeat their P19/P5 finish, so they are consistent if nothing else!

Now let’s see just where this takes Tanoto in terms of future events this year?

Team New Zealand join the AMR ranks in Thailand Super Series

Team New Zealand join the AMR ranks in Thailand Super Series

Team New Zealand are the latest recruits to the Aston Martin Racing powered family as they have been confirmed as the latest entrant into this season’s Thailand Super Series.

Racing the older 17A iteration of the Vantage GT4 last seen out with Romain Leroux within the TSS Series support race at the Singapore F1 event, the team have confirmed that Kiwi racer Graeme Dowsett will be joined by upcoming Thai racer Ananthorn Tangniannatchai within the GT4 class.

Over the last two season’s in the TSS Series, we have had the Viper Niza team represent the brand with their 16A version of the Vantage GT3 but they have competed their last two series events within either the LMP3 car or most recently within a Mercedes AMG GT3 at the Sepang 12Hr.

Team NZ announces its programme for TSS 2024 just as the series expands its calendar from four to five rounds (and ten races) for 2024, thanks to the addition of an extra round at Sepang Circuit. The Malaysian F1 circuit has been a happy hunting round for Team NZ over the years and it has enjoyed much winning success there.

TSS 2024 will kick off next month at Buriram’s FIA Grade 1 Chang International Circuit before taking in the iconic Bangsaen Grand Prix street race. That’s followed by back-to-back trips to Sepang International Circuit before the year closes with a return trip to Buriram in December.

With the help of Aston Martin Racing Asia and Earl Bamber Motorsport, Team NZ has just wrapped up a pre-season and acclimatisation programme at Sepang Circuit as it gets up to speed with the Vantage GT4 and beds in Tangniannatchai.
