Code Racing Development take pole again in Le Mans Cup qualifying

Code Racing Development take pole again in Le Mans Cup qualifying

The Code Racing Development Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 of Sebastian Moreno has again showed his qualifying pace at least as he qualified the #11 car that he now shares with Ethan Ischer onto another pole position within the Michelin Le Mans Cup Series.

This time competing at the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France, the Columbian bronze driver did what he did at the opening round from Barcelona just few weeks ago to go nearly three quarters of a second quicker than anyone else within their ten strong GT3 class to claim his second pole position of the season. His teammate, Ischer also secured a fastest class lap of the event during an earlier Free Practice session

The #10 Racing Spirit of Leman AMR Vantage GT3 of Philipp Sager (shared with Valentin Hasse-Clot) sadly could not replicate his qualifying pace of Barcelona as they eventually qualified P8 in class with the #91 Ecurie Ecosse by Blackthorn AMR of Claude Bovet (and Tom Canning) had better fortune this time to make it through to the grid of this afternoons race in nineth after an earlier spin for Bovet.

They sadly had a heavy off in Spain that prevented them from racing in Spain, as did the #11 Code of Racing Development AMR during the opening laps of that race which eventually allowed the #10 RSLM car to come through to claim a season opening race win. It’s just now time for the teams to join together all those dots for the race.

Blackthorn filled in their missing blanks today ahead of their return to the Michelin Le Mans Cup Series this year with their #91 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3.

Team owner and lead driver, Claude Bovet was confirmed by the team and the series when the provisional entry list to this season’s campaign was confirmed back in January.

Today’s news sees the team confirm that Tom Canning will be stepping up to the European series for the first time having spent the last few seasons competing in GT4 after a brief racing period through 2020-21 in GT3 with TF Sport across three series.

Fellow AMR Vantage GT3 runners, Racing Spirit of Leman are apparently (according to Endurance Info) concluding their final test and appreciation sessions with various drivers to see who will be partnering Tom Wood within their #10 car entry. We also await confirmation of who will be joining Antoine Leclerc within the declared #11 Code Racing Development AMR Vantage GT3.

The Michelin Le Mans Cup suddenly became even more interesting than it usually is today as they announced their multi-classed entry list for 2026 which this time sees THREE Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3’s entered within their six-round season.

Last year we had just the Code Racing Development team fly the flag for the brand and for the first half the season at least, they were very much in contention at the head of the class before sadly falling away during the final two rounds.

Again bearing the #11 number, this year sees the French based team join forces with Antoine Leclerc with a bronze ranked driver yet to be determined whilst the new for 2026 #10 Racing Spirit of Leman entry will also carry a familiar surname around the door as British GT Silver-Am Champion Tom Wood deservedly moves back into the European racing arena. The #91 Blackthorn AMR entry will again see team boss Claude Bovet compete within the series as they continue this weekend with their Asian Le Mans Series commitments.

These three entries help to make up the ten GT3 entries within the class as well as the thirty-five LMP3 cars that will compete amongst their two classes making up for a very healthy forty-five car entry.

The Le Mans Cup season will get officially underway on the 8th March with the pre-season Prologue test from Barcelona before quickly moving into the first race of the year at the Catalunya circuit that weekend. In the meantime, there obviously needs to be three further drivers announced within the teams but already, the season is looking very interesting indeed.

Don’t forget that the series (in support of the European Le Mans Series) will again be attending Silverstone this September as the penultimate round of the season.

An additional Aston Martin for this weekends British GT Silverstone 500

An additional Aston Martin for this weekends British GT Silverstone 500

An enhanced grid entry has just been confirmed for this weekend’s second round of the British GT Championship from Silverstone as now thirty-three crews prepare themselves for the Blue Ribband Silverstone 500 event.

The opening round to the 2025 season from Donington Park saw twenty-six GT3 and GT4 crews take to the track for the first time of asking at the start of the month and todays entry news out of the SRO sees one further Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 to add to the two full season AMR GT3’s and the Endurance Cup entered Vantage GT4.

Like Donington Park before it, this second round of the season is also another Endurance Cup round for those eligible entries for which the #50 MKH Racing AMR Vantage GT4 of Peter Montague and Stuart Hall is one.

They will compete within an overall GT4 class of fourteen car and be one of four cars entered within the Endurance Cup – three of which are racing within the Pro-Am sub-class. The opening round saw the #50 crew finish P20 overall but P2 within class for their efforts within that two-hour race – the Silverstone 500 will this time be a three-hour affair!

At the other end of the paddock, they will again be joined by both full season GT3 entries from the Blackthorn AMR and Beechdean AMR teams for their Pro-Am #7 entry of Jonny Adam and Giacoma Petrobelli and the #97 Silver-Am entry for Andrew Howard and Tom Wood respectively.

Donington Park certainly saw a fiery Italian aboard the #7 car – first snatching a P5 qualifying slot before being in the hunt of the early stages of that race. That was before contact with a slower GT4 saw the car pick up sizeable front-end damage (and penalties) that would eventually ruin their race to end the day P11 overall, P9 in class.

That, however, wasn’t the case for the #97 Beechdean crew in their debut race with yet another livery colour scheme where dogged persistence from Howard before handing a fast car over to the charging Wood saw them end the day P7 overall and P1 in class for a very welcomed early visit to the podium.

They will this time be joined by a second car out of the Blackthorn stable for team boss Claude Bovet and Charles Bateman within the #19 car. Bateman ran with the team within this season’s Asian Le Mans Series alongside both Adam and Petrobelli/Reema Juffali. Although permitted to race, this and all the other additional ad-hoc GT3 entries will not be points scoring.

This weekend’s timetable will again see private testing on Friday before Free Practice, Pre-Qualifying and Qualifying on Saturday ahead of Warm up and the start of the race at 12:30 on Sunday.

Some serious AMR powered related news released earlier today (UPDATED)

Some serious AMR powered related news released earlier today (UPDATED)

Some significant Aston Martin Racing powered news has been announced today regarding entries Partner teams entered into ACO rules series.

Starting at the top, saw the Heart of Racing today their full driver line up within their #27 Aston Martin Racing Vantage LMGT3 that will compete again within the World Endurance Championship that starts again in just a few weeks’ time.

Having raced so competitively last season with drivers Ian James, Alex Riberas and Daniel Mancinelli behind the wheel sees team manager James return to the car but this time alongside the likes of Zacharie Robichon and Mattia Drudi.

Whilst Robichon has been involved with the team’s varying race programme for a couple of seasons now, Drudi’s team involved only started a few weeks ago where he and Robichon raced together in the opening round of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship aboard the team’s #27 GTD entry where they finished third in class, but this will be both drivers debut within the WEC.

“I’m super excited to be making my FIA WEC debut with the Heart of Racing Team,” said Drudi. “Zach was one of the best Silver rated drivers in 2024 and Ian has been one of the quickest Bronze rated drivers. I think overall we have a really strong lineup. The Aston Martin Vantage was one of the strongest and most competitive cars last year. I can’t wait to get the season started in Qatar later this month.”

The 2025 World Endurance Championship kicks off again in Qatar at the end of February which will also witness the racing debut of the team’s new Valkyrie Hypercar whose driver line ups will be confirmed in due course.

In other news, there has been a driver change within the Blackthorn AMR Vantage GT3 entry into this weekend’s second round (third and fourth races) of the Asian Le Mans Series from the Dubai Autodrome.

Originally listing their #19 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 of full season entrants of Claude Bovet, David McDonald and Jason Ambrose, a more recent change sees the likes of Jonny Adam originally re-partnering up with his 2024 British GT co-driver Giacomo Petrobelli alongside Charles Bateman but news today confirms that Saudi Arabian lady racer Reema Juffali will now take the place of the Italian.

Juffali was one of four Saudi racers who competed within the final round of the 2024 GT4 European Series with the Comtoyou Racing team in one of their older 17A variants of the Vantage GT4 and who secured a class podium finish in race 2 alongside co-driver Ahmed Bin-Khanen.

Despite already having at least two season’s worth pf prior GT3 racing experience within the GT World Challenge Europe and International GT Open Series, this will be another step up the racing ladder for the Saudi racer and her gentleman co-driver.

We also see a change in livery design and colour for the #89 Earl Bamber Motorsport AMR entry of Jamie Day, Mattia Drudi and Gabriel Rindone.

Big changes within the AMR powered camps ahead of second back to back Asian Le Mans weekend next month

Big changes within the AMR powered camps ahead of second back to back Asian Le Mans weekend next month

Significant changes are afoot within the Aston Martin Racing powered entry of the Asian Le Mans Series as forty-seven cars are confirmed ahead of their next double header race round around the Dubai Autodrome in just under two weeks’ time.

Having already competed at Sepang back at the beginning of December, todays provisional entry list shows both an addition of one new AMR Vantage GT3 from the Blackthorn AMR as well (taking the tally to three GT cars) as well as a completely new driver line up within the #89 Earl Bamber Motorsport AMR entry compared to last time out.

Already fielding the one such AMR powered within the #19 car for team owner Claude Bovet and Team Manager David McDonald alongside that of Ferrari Challenge racer Jason Ambrose, the Blackthorn ARM team will also be entering a second Vantage GT3 Evo for their 2024 British GT crew of Giacomo Petrobelli and Jonny Adam who will race alongside Charles Bateman.

That news comes in addition to drivers Gabriel Rindone, Jamie Day and Mattia Drudi taking charge of the #89 EBM Vantage GT3 Evo from that of Tanoto Santoso, Brendon Leitch and Marco Sorensen who crewed the car last time out in Malaysia.

These changes and additions take the GT class headcount to thirty cars alongside that of seven LMP3 and ten LMP2 entries for the two back-to-back races that will be ran over the weekend of the 8th and 9th February.

Rain hampers the race proceedings in race 2 of the Asian Le Mans Series opening weekend

Rain hampers the race proceedings in race 2 of the Asian Le Mans Series opening weekend

With not too much time in-between for the refettling of both driver and machine, todays second race of the opening round of the Asian Le Mans Series was soon underway again early today around the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

Yesterday’s opening four hour round had already been a typical first day back scenario with incident and accident happening as early as turn one lap one for some, but at least for the two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 crews there was just the learning from yesterday to put into the equation for today.

Qualifying had already taken place with the #89 Earl Bamber Motorsport AMR of Anderson Tanoto, Brendon Leitch and Marco Sorensen again having beaten the #19 Blackthorn AMR entry of Jason Ambrose, Claude Bovet and David McDonald to start race two in P17 and P23 respectively out of a GT class size of twenty-five.

Like yesterday, race two again started under clear, bright and very warm track conditions, although this time rain was being forecasted being the end of the race but this time, the Vantage had received an overnight BoP improvement in terms of available boost compared to that of yesterday.

The race start was also more reserved from all this time and was thankfully without the opening damage that blighted yesterday’s event for many although an early spin for the #89 car saw Tanoto drop a lap to the pack on only the second lap of the race.

More significant issues for others in class were, however, just around the corner as yesterday’s GT class winner (#57 Car Guy Ferrari) made heavy impact with the #42 Lamborghini taking both out with damage and the first caution period of the race for the resulting clean-up operation.

With that, the appearance of the #19 Blackthorn Amr of Ambrose also elevated itself onto the tail of the class leaderboard in P18 with just over half an hour done soon after the completion of the first hour had the first reports of the predicted rain. Unfortunately, with both Aston Martins running at the tail of the GT pack, there was little of note to report as the race went into its second half other than the darkness of the cloud cover above deepening.

Just the as rain actually started to fall, the races second full course yellow was thrown – this time for debris caused by a tyre failing on an LMP2 after a significant lockup. Eventually released by the Safety Car with eighty-four minutes of the race remaining, rain Sepang style finally arrived with deteriorating track condition again bringing out the Safety Car just into the final hour of the race.

The red flag was eventually called a premature end to the race as the rains hammered down around the circuit with the car collecting as per Regulation along the start straight. With the race clock still counting down, the race was eventually called with little over fifteen minutes remaining.

Despite all of the above, both Aston Martin Racing powered crews again did what several crews failed to do either today or yesterday in completing the race albeit outside of the points awarding sharp end of the table. The #89 EBM crew again beat the #19 Blackthorn crew by the end of today’s racing with a P32 overall – P18 in class finish compared to the #19’s P35 overall – P20 finish as the teams now look forward to a two-month break in the proceedings before the now customary double header double header race weekends in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi in early February.

Progress to make for both Aston Martins ahead of race two of Asian Le Mans Series opener in Sepang

Progress to make for both Aston Martins ahead of race two of Asian Le Mans Series opener in Sepang

It was another particularly chaotic start to the proceedings earlier today as the 2024/25 Asian Le Mans Series finally got underway with their opening one of two races around the Sepang International Circuit earlier today.

With another pair of Aston Martin Racing Vantage LMGT3’s again helping form another record breaking forty-two all entry (twenty-five of those within the GT class), it was always going to be something of a first day back at school scenario for the #89 Earl Bamber Motorsport and #19 Blackthorn AMR entries.

With both private testing and then Free Practice already behind them, today also saw the teams allotted driver take part within a qualifying session that would see their best and second-best lap times taken to form the grids for today’s opener as well as tomorrows second four-hour race.

For both Anderson Tanoto aboard the #89 EBM car and Jason Ambrose aboard the #19 Blackthorn entry, their best lap times apiece were worth of at best a P17 starting position for Tanoto and P24 in class for Ambrose.

When race one finally got underway earlier today under ‘clear blue skies and sunshine’, the significance of any qualifying position was soon again demonstrated as incidences into turns 1 and 2 of the opening laps saw many cars incur damage with some even having their race ended after contact from others having been spun around through no real fault of the own.

The opening hour or so of the new season would see a plethora of Virtual Safety Car and direct Safety Car inventions take place as various incidents took place around the abrasive 3.44-mile circuit – all of which thankfully avoided the inclusion of either Aston Martin.

With some big names aboard many of the other GT Class entries, we had hoped that the #89 EBM car of Tanoto, Brenden Leitch and Marco Sorensen would have a dramatic performance advantage over the #19 Blackthorn entry of Ambrose, Claude Bovet and David McDonald although that was clearly the case as the #19 car ran a strategy programme non-reactive to track events like the EBM car did for much of the opening half of the race.

Indeed, at times, the #89 car looked quite the handful on track as whilst the undertook many a fight within class throughout the race, that was usually in defence of their position before the inevitable pass and demotion in track position despite having claimed as high as P4 at points during the race.

The #19 Blackthorn car meanwhile, sadly achieved little airtime upon the live stream from the circuit as they remained within the tail runners in class for much of the race – nothing outrageous or derogatory their considering their mixed group of drivers compared to their peers.

The race would end with just as much excitement as it started as the P3 finishing Ferrari was later adjudged to have exceeded their finishing drivers maximum drive time (albeit by just 4.5 seconds) for the #89 EBM car to finish P26 overall and P11 in class whilst the #19 finished P32 overall and P17 in class – sadly both outside the allocation of championship points.

Race two of the opening weekend takes place tomorrow (Sunday) before moving onto both Dubai and Abu Dhabi in early 2025. We still await to hear if their will be any Balance of Performance changes within the GT class ahead of race two.

Both AMR Vantage liveries revealed today ahead of next weekends Asian Le Mans Series opener

Both AMR Vantage liveries revealed today ahead of next weekends Asian Le Mans Series opener

With little under a week still to go before the opening track sessions of this season’s Asian Le Mans Series still to go, both Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 teams have today put their new liveries out there for us to enjoy.

Starting at the Sepang International Circuit with a double header of four-hour races across the 7th and 8thDecember, both the Blackthorn AMR and Earl Bamber Motorsport entries (alongside the collective forty-two LMP2, LMP3 and GT3 classes of course) will then move onto the Dubai Autodrome for another double header there in early February before culminating with another season finale double at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

The #19 Blackthorn AMR entry of team owner Claude Bovet, Team Manager David McDonald together with guesting driver Jason Ambrose will all feature within one of the teams new 2024 Evo variants of the Vantage GT3 with a livery design that has evolved from that used by the team within both the British GT Championship and Michelin Le Mans Cups Series of this season.

In an interview published upon the AsLMS website, the team continued to say how this series was the next stepping stone along their ACO inspired pathway of taking both themselves and their clients to hopefully culminate at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the not-so-distant future.

We have also seen today the revised livery of the #89 EBM Motorsport entry for this six-race series that the likes of Marco Sorensen, Anderson Tanoto and Brendon Leitch will be driving this time next week.

With the teams car having previously been utilised this season within varying events in the Asian theatre, this is definitely the strongest driver line up (excluding Earl Bamber himself in one such Thailand Super Series round) within an Aston Martin Racing car serviced by his accomplished team.

Only early this week did we see social media posts of the team testing (more than once) at the Sepang circuit in time for next weekend opener.

This will be another exciting season to watch over the New Year break for many.

Two AMR Vantage GT3 crews confirmed ahead of next month Asian Le Mans Series opener

Two AMR Vantage GT3 crews confirmed ahead of next month Asian Le Mans Series opener

Whilst Aston Martin Racing powered participation within next year’s IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship brews along nicely at the moment, there has today been further news into next this forthcoming Asian Le Mans Series too.

Confirming a healthy and buoyant forty-two, multi-classed entry for this latest season of the Asian based ACO rules series that kicks off in Sepang (Malaysia) in just over two week’s time, there was also news as to the identity within the two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3’s as previously listed this time around as full season entries.

Within the #19 Blackthorn Motorsport AMR entry we will be seeing team regulars in team owner Claude Bovet and Team Manager David McDonald again pair up again like they did for most of this season’s Michelin Le Mans Cup Series but this time with bronze rated and former Ferrari Challenge Champion, Jason Ambrose alongside.

They will be joined within the twenty-five strong GT class by the #89 Earl Bamber Motorsport AMR Vantage GT3 which has had drivers Anderson Tanoto (Indonesia), Brendon Leitch (NZ)and AMR factory driver Marco Sorenson listed.

Whilst Sorensen needs no introduction and Tanoto has featured within many an AMR entry within the Asian theatre of racing like within the likes of the Thailand Super Series, Great Bay Area GT3 support race at Macau, Leitch also comes with a massive extent of prior GT3 knowledge and experience although (we believe) this will be his first time within an Aston Martin.

Rounds one and two of the short winter series kick off at the Sepang International Circuit over the 7th and 8thDecember before moving onto both the Dubai Autodrome and the Yas Marina circuits over the 8th and 9th and 15th and 16th February respectively.

Two Astons in the class championship hunt at the ELMS winds up in Portimao

Two Astons in the class championship hunt at the ELMS winds up in Portimao

Within another hectic weekend of motor racing involving multiple Aston Martin Racing powered teams and of those series reaching their finales, only the European Le Mans race from Portimao stands out as a must watch event.

Having now completed for exciting rounds, the state of the LMGT3 class Championship means that multiple crews retain a mathematical chance of securing top hours within that class come the fall of the chequered flag after this final four-hour race in Portugal.

Within that equation, we have both the #59 Racing Spirit of Leman AMR of Derek DeBoer, Casper Stevenson and Valentin Hasse-Clot as well as the #97 Grid Motorsport with TF AMR of Martin Berry, Lorcan Hanafin (and Jonny Adam) who stand just fourteen points apart from one another with twenty-six points still upon the table.

Since the end of the third round at Imola the #59 crew have held the lead of the LMGT3 class, only relinquishing that top spot after the last round from Mugello meant that the crew dropped down to second in class albeit on the same points of the #57 Kessel Racing Ferrari that now head the pack.

Whilst the #59 crew have consistency to their name over the season, two class wins for the #57 crew puts the moment with the Ferrari crew going into this round after that Aston Martin could finish no higher than fifth in Italy.

The #97 crew meanwhile claimed their first podium finish of the season so far at Mugello coming home a warranted second in class despite some earlier issues.

With the class leaders sitting on 64 points and with 26 points still available, it is technically possible that the crew down in eleventh overall could secure the championship if they score maximum Qualifying and race points and those above do not score but whilst that is possible, the probability of all those above faltering is unlikely. The race will however be a least a four car drag race to the finish line on Saturday afternoon.

Looking at the series technical notes going into this final round, all four manufacturer platforms receive a further Balance of Performance adjustment from those imposed for the previous round with the AMR platforms seeing changes to their power, weight and energy parameters beyond that of their success ballast. The effects of these changes will not be noticeable to use lay men until the cars hit the track for Qualifying as before that it’s just all preparatory works.

The race will be waved off at 14:30hrs before the series officially winds up with two Rookie driver test sessions before their awards night presentation at Portimao Arena.

Joining the European Le Mans Series at Portimao will again be the Michelin Le Mans Cup Series which again sees two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 entries from the Blackthorn AMR team.

Featuring within another combined grid of thirty-nine LMP3 and GT3 based cars sees the return of Claude Bovet and David McDonald to their #91 car whilst last time out debutants (within an Aston Martin anyway) James Swift and Ross Kaiser have another go at the series within their #90 car having secured class pole position in Italy.

That class has already determined its championship pairing so that event holds no more reward that pride with a little bit of silverware for their efforts. The race gets waves off at 11:30hrs local on Saturday.

Next stop Spa Francorchamps for ACO rules ELMS and LMC racing

Next stop Spa Francorchamps for ACO rules ELMS and LMC racing

The long summer break is finally over for the ACO rules European Le Mans Series and Supporting Michelin Le Mans Cup Series as both sets of cars travel out to the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium for their respective fourth round of their season’s this weekend.

With entry tightly regulated in terms of numbers, this weekend’s entry list comes as no real surprise in terms of participating teams although there is a slight adjustment for the sole Aston Martin Racing powered team running again within the Le Mans Cup Series.

The last round from Imola saw more AMR powered success for the #59 Racing Spirit of Leman AMR Vantage LMGT3 crew of Derek DeBoer, Valentin Hasse-Clot and Casper Stevenson as the trio converted a P2 qualifying position into a P2 class finishing position to add to their third-place finish at Le Castellet to springboard their Championship challenge up to second place at this halfway stage of the season.

The #97 Grid Motorsport by TF Sport AMR Vantage LMGT3 crew of Martin Berry, Lorcan Hanafin and Jonny Adam had improved again from their disasters of the opening round in Spain to finish fourth on track in Italy only to be docked another place in class thanks to post race time penalty in lieu of a drive through penalty on track.

Despite that, their ten points from Italy was still enough to raise that crew up to P7 in the LMGT3 Drivers table – sum twenty-six points behind the present championship leaders but with still seventy-five points on offer.

This weekend will see another forty-three-capacity grid take to the iconic circuit with the LMGT3 class again being joined by the LMP2 and LMP3 classes.

Joining them at the circuit this weekend will be another thirty-nine strong grid from the supporting Michelin Le Mans Cup Series where the British Blackthorn AMR team will again be the sole Aston Martin Racing representative with another single car entry.

Having missed the opening round to the season in Spain through not having the necessary parts to convert their existing Vantage GT3 cars into the new 2024 Evo version, the second round from Paul Ricard came as something as a baptism of fire for the then Claude Bovet/ David McDonald driver line up although their P5 Qualifying position showed possibilities going into their double header at Le Mans.

There, this car failed to capitalise on what quickly became something of a racing farce as each race was dramatically shortened by the need for repeated Safety Car intervention to deliver them just four Championship points to add to their two from Ricard.

This time around, the biggest change will be that Bovet will be partnered by multiple Le Mans winner Darren Turner within their #91 car for this weekend.

The one hour fifty-minute LMC race will start at 16:05hrs local on Saturday whilst the four hour ELMS race will start at 11:30hrs on Sunday.
