Five Aston Martins at the Nurburgring but needing something of a minor miracle to take a title fight to the final round
Amongst the fifty-five entries listed will be just the five AMR Vantage GT3 runners from either the Comtoyou Racing or Walkenhorst Motorsport teams after the Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn team confirmed their absence from the event a few weeks ago.
Championship wise, the #7 Comtoyou Racing Pro class entry for Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorensen and Mattia Drudi still stand as AMR’s best contenders as they sit second within the overall championship table, but they would need something of a minor miracle to overcome the forty-one points deficit to the leading Mercedes-AMG powered crew. With just two normal format races remaining, there will be just a maximum of fifty points available to them to achieve that feat.
Within the silver class, both the #21 Comtoyou Racing entry for drivers Kobe Pauwels, Oliver Soderstrom and Sebastian Baud find themselves just outside of the top ten in eleventh on a tally so far of twenty-eight points whilst the #35 Walkenhorst car of Mateo Villagomez, Ethan Ischer and Gaspard Simon find themselves further back in P23 with just five points.
Track action will begin on Friday with both private testing and the bronze driver test sessions before Free Practice 1 and 2 on Saturday before individual qualifying and the start of this three hour race on Sunday at 15:00hrs local.

If you go down to the woods today…….
Not only functioning as the third round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup or even the third round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge Series, but this race also contains a few wild card or guest entries amongst them that will certainly spice things up come the green flag on Saturday.
We of course feature six full season Aston Martin Racing powered entries into the GTWCE Endurance Cup Series from the likes of the locally based Comtoyou Racing team, the German based Walkenhorst Motorsport team as well as a solo effort from the British based Ecurie Ecosse with Blackthorn as automatic entries into this event but we will also see a further (fourth) entry from the Comtoyou Racing team full of national importance.
The bronze ranked drivers enjoyed their first track action of the week earlier today (after a collective private test for all) with the #11 Comtoyou squad of Marcelo Tomasoni/Aaron Muss/Kyle Marcelli and Felice Jelmini had a few of their drivers eligible for that session as did the #56 Ecurie Ecosse by Blackthorn AMR of Giacomo Petrobelli/Jonny Adam/Lorcan Hanafin and Romain Leroux. We are, however, saddened to see the likes of Tom Wood miss out on his previously indicated drive within the #56 car despite previous confirmation by the team and series.
Next up the order are the two silver classed entries from both the Belgian and German teams in the form of Oliver Soderstrom/Kobe Pauwels/Sebastian Baud and Arthur Dorison aboard the #21 Comtoyou Racing entry with Mateo Villagomez/Than Ischer/Gaspard Simon and Maxime Robin aboard the #35 Walkenhorst AMR Vantage GT3.
Each team then field a Pro class entry apiece with former race winners Nicki Thiim/Marco Sorensen and Mattia Drudi looking to make for being taken out of the last race event at Monza very late on and without fault after some very poor driving standards had been on display whilst the Walkenhorst will field Henrique Chaves/ Christian Krognes and Jamie Day aboard their #34 entry.
That leaves the all-Belgian effort from the Belgian bases team as Nicolas Baert Xavier Knauf, Sarah Bovey and Gregory Servais join forces for this one-off event within their #700 Pro-Am entry.
Tomorrows significant event will be the annual car, and drivers parade and autograph session within the two centre of Spa with all the cars making their own way to and from the circuit along the public roads. After that, things become much more serious with two Free Practice sessions on Thursday ahead of Qualifying and night practice later on before Superpole for the front runners later on Friday.
The race itself will be waved off at 16:30hrs local on Saturday. What isn’t there to like about any of that?

Tom Wood extends his 2026 GT3 campaign into the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup
Having struggled over recent years in recognition for his driving potential, the young Brit’s fortune has clearly been unlocked within the 2026 season after he and Andrew Howard secured the Silver-Am Drivers Championship in last season’s British GT Championship.
Whilst that is obviously good news for Wood, that does also raise questions with the continued association of Lorcan Hanafin with the team (certainly in a full season sense) after he was earlier confirmed as the three-man squad alongside Adam and Petrolbelli.

In other news
In other Aston Martin Racing powered news this week sees the opening to applications today for this years intake of ‘pupil’s for AMR’s Driver Academy programme.
Open again to anyone between sixteen and twenty-six years old and racing an AMR Vantage GT or GT4 within any recognised mainstream series this year is eligible to apply to receive a multitude of on and off-track guidance along the way before being in chance of winning a significant financial contribution towards their 2027 racing programme.
Last year’s title was of course won by the young Belgian racer Kobe Pauwels after he (and the previous AMR Academy winner) Jamie Day secured the Silver Class championship win within the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup with Comtoyou Racing in their Vantage GT3.
Just how many drivers they are after is yet to be seen but they did confirm potential test dates for any interested parties at Donington, Snetterton and Silverstone.

Aston Martin Valkyrie scores its first global podium finish at IMSA finale from Petit Le Mans
Having already seen large steps forward within its FIA WEC Hypercar programme, the parallel and supporting #23 Valkyrie GTP effort of Ross Gunn, Roman De Angelis (and Alex Riberas for this ten-hour race) saw them duplicate those advances in performance and achieve their best results of the season so far by qualifying in fifth before the start to yesterday’s race.
Joining the #23 car at this seasonal finale were of course the Heart of Racing’s Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD of a drivers championship chasing Casper Stevenson alongside that of co-drivers Tom Gamble and Zacharie Robichon; the #19 Van Der Stuer AMR of returning (after injury) Rory Van Der Steur, Valentin Hasse-Clot and Anthony McIntosh as well as the part time endurance round entry from the Magnus Racing team with drivers John Potter, Spencer Pumpelly and Jan Heylin.
With the #23 GTP Valkyrie starting from P5 on the grid, there were also good starting positions for two of the three AMR GTD cars with the #19 car this time topping the AMR ranks to claim a P3 start in class, ahead of the #27 car in P6 but with the #44 towards the back after they had lap times deleted in qualifying. Having been the cause of earlier red flags at the event.
Their lowly starting position into the race also saw them one of the first cars to come across a lap one multiple car incident in class that saw at least five cars sustain extensive damage after the first car spun on the kerbs. Suffering severe front quarter damage, the #44 car of Potter was able to get back to pit lane, but the car was sadly retired with irreparable damage to put paid to their earlier efforts.
That left the three other cars and (for a change) the challenges of the next ten hours of racing would see all three fluctuate from the head of their class pack to the rear as the multiple pit stop cycles and several Safety Car interventions affected the running of the race.
At the halfway stage, the #23 car was running smoothly within the top six overall whilst the #19 and #27 crews had been exchanging positions regularly but the #19 still leading the other in (then) P3 and P6 positions in class respectively.
As the race progressed, the light would gently fade giving way to the final few hours of the ten being conducted in absolute darkness with little to no track lighting to help but going into the final hour, the #23 was now up to P3 overall and the #19 and #27 crews had exchanged positions to now run in third and P11 respectively.
At the end, the P4 finish in class for the #27 Heart of Racing crew was not enough for Stevenson to claim the GTD Drivers Championship with the young Brit eventually finishing third overall, second in the teams for the Heart of Racing and third within the Manufacturers for AMR. The #19 VDS entry would also finish the event in P11 in GTD and third within the Bronze Cup for the race as well as P19 overall within the overall Endurance Cup Championship at their first time of asking this season.
The real headlines came with the #23 Valkyrie exceeding all expectations in its first ever year of racing this season with its first global podium finish upon the second step of the podium – so congratulations to all involved.

Pole for Heart of Racing at Indianapolis
With eighteen cars out in class for the first of four qualifying sessions, the young Englishman never looked troubled eventually beating their nearest rival by nearly 0.2 of a second as the car continued their earlier pace in Free Practice 2 where he and co-drivers Tom Gamble and Zacharie Robichon also topped the GTD timing screen. This was Stevenson's first IMSA pole position achievement.
Also making their return to the IMSA with their Endurance Cup entry was the #19 Van Der Steur Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD of Anthony McIntosh, Eduardo Barrichello and Valentin Hasse-Clot with the former driver again taking charge of the blue and white car in the qualifying session.
With that car also having been fastest overall within Free Practice 1, McIntosh proved himself to be fastest again within his Bronze Cup class with a time 1.2 seconds off that of the pole setting #27 car to claim a P9 in class starting position – P1 within their Bronze Cup entries.

The final session of the day was the turn of the GTP classed entries and for us, that was obviously for the #23 Heart of Racing’s Aston Martin Valkyrie of both Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis.
Having been running nineth and tenth fastest within the twelve strong GTP class over the course of the two previous Free Practice sessions, the #23 car was in the hands of De Angelis for their qualifying session.
Sacrificing time pitting for new tyres after the opening lap, the Canadian’s first flying lap maintained their earlier form of pace before then snatching a temporary third best time before the ‘more established’ runners soon pushed him back down.
Eventually finishing eleventh fastest on track (still just 0.8 of a second off pole position pace), the #23 car would not be able to benefit from the #24 and #63 cars losing their fastest times of the session, so the #23 car will be starting from P11 on track tomorrow.

Janik Motorsport still chasing Sprint and Endurance title battles as GT Cup reaches Brno this weekend
For this fifth round to the season, the Janik Motorsport Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 Evo pairing of Petr Koukola and Vaclav Janik will again be in attendance with their #73 car as the former will again take on the solo driven sprint rounds with Janik (or both) competing within the longer endurance race.
Results after the previous round from the Slovakia Ring two weeks ago saw another pair of P2 finishes for Koukola as well as the same for Janik in the endurance race that leaves Koukola third and just eleven points behind the leader in Sprint whilst Janik sits second in GT4 Endurance albeit thirty points behind the leading crew with two rounds remaining.

The Verstappen.com AMR nearly clinch the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup Gold crown in Germany (UPDATED)
Despite taking the chequered flag in yesterdays race first within their gold class, the #33 Verstappen.com 2 Seas Motorsport Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 crew of Chris Lulham, Thierry Vermuelin and Harry King received a post race ten second time penalty for earlier contact which has dropped them down to third within the race results. That penalty keeps alive the class battle into the final round in Span later next month.
Having been so dominantly consistent with their class over the 2025 season so far, the #33 Red Bull sponsored Aston Martin came from fifth in class at the start to today’s three hour penultimate round to the season in Germany to make use of a Full Course Yellow and Safety Car restart to end the day on the top step of their class podium to win that class outright with one round still remaining.
There were high hopes for the Comtoyou Racing AMR Vantage GT3 of Nicki Thiim, Mattia Drudi and Marco Sorensen going into this round after they qualified in fourth after the initial pole setting BMW was penalised for contact with another car during the days earlier qualifying sessions.
Despite the cooler and overcast conditions, the race was run in essentially dry conditions after rain earlier in the race weekend with Thiim initially dropping down the order ion the opening laps after a ‘round the outside’ plan of attack into turn one backfired for the Dane.
Recovering from that early error, however, the #7 car would hold station within the top five throughout most of his stint before pitting earlier than most to hand the car over to Drudi. That difference in strategy allowed the Italian to quickly catch and pass the Rowe Racing BMW for the race lead which the #7 would then hold onto until what appeared to be a routine third stop and full service, allowing Sorensen to take the car to the flag.
The same FCY/Safety Car intervention for a multiple car incident at turn eight which favoured the #33 Verstappen AMR did the complete opposite to the #7 cars programme after they had pitted at full race pace only for their immediate Pro class competitors to be allowed their own final stop at Safety car speed. That time difference alone dropped the #7 car from what was the race lead and down to P8 in class by the time the third pit stop cycle had been completed. The #7 crew would eventually finish sixth.
The Nurburgring was also not the day for the remaining four Aston Martin Racing powered crews after the silver classed #35 Walkenhorst Motorsport entry of Mateo Villagomez, Romain Leroux and Oliver Soderstrom dropped a lap in the opening minutes after (presumed) contact with others on lap one whilst the similar classed #21 Comtoyou Racing entry of Nicolas Baert, Kobe Pauwel and Jamie Day dropped from their P3 qualifying position to end the day P7 in class.
The #34 Walkenhorst Pro entry of David Pittard, Christian Krognes and Henrique Chaves maintained a disappointing weekend at the office for them converting their P12 qualifying position into a P12 finish in class whilst the #270 Comtoyou Racing bronze classed entry of Jessica Hawkins, Antoine Potty and Alexandre Leroy at least saw an improvement by finishing the weekend from their P16 class start into a P13 finish.
With the Gold class already sorted, the final round of the season from Barcelona in mid-October will become something of a non-event as no other AMR powered crew can win anything more than the race or their class by the end of that final three hours of racing.

Six Aston Martin Vantage GT3s go again in GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cups visit to the Nurburgring
Rounds so far from Paul Ricard, Monza and Spa Francorchamps leaves just this round from Germany and its more traditional end of season event from the Circuit De Catalunya near Barcelona left for their sixty plus strong entry to conclude their respective Pro, Gold, Silver and Bronze class championship battles.
Within the top-flight Pro class there will again be the #7 Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin Racing entry of Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorensen and Matia Drudi as well as the #34 Walkenhorst AMR Vantage GT3 of Christian Krognes, David Pittard and Henrique Chaves.
Results so far this season place the #7 crew in P6, twenty-three points behind the present class leaders whilst the #34 crew are unfortunately way down the order in P20 with just four championship points to their name.
There is again another car and crew from each team competing within the silver class where the situation within class is a near reflection of that within Pro as the #35 Walkenhorst crew of Matteo Villagomez, Oliver Soderstrom and Romain Leroux stand P9 in class – thirty five points behind the present class leaders whilst the #21 Comtoyou Racing entry of Jamie Day, Nicolas Baert and Kobe Pauwels sit P26 with just two points to their name. Whilst the #21 has been great up to and including Qualifying, incidents and accidents have prevented anything more than a single point apiece from Paul Ricard and Monza.
The Bronze class has been even crueller to the #270 Comtoyou Racing crew of Jessica Hawkins, Antoine Potty and Alexandre Leroy as whilst they finished P11 in class at the season opener, they failed to even make the start to the race at Monza thanks to an accident in an earlier test session before again failing to finish at the Spa 24.
There is happier new however within the Gold class as the #33 Verstappen.com (2 Seas Motorsport) prepared Vantage GT3 of Thierry Vermuelin, Harry King and Chris Lulham presently lead that class by a margin of twenty-five points from the chasing pack.
It’s now been over two months since the last round of the season from Spa Francorchamps as the series gets back underway on Thursday with private testing ahead of more formally timed sessions starting on Friday before Qualifying on Saturday and the wave off to this three-hour race on Sunday starting at 15:00hrs local.

Just two Aston Martins for this weekends GTWC Europe Sprint opener from Brands Hatch
Starting off in the UK we will see the opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Series around the Grand Prix loop of Brands Hatch this weekend. With the Endurance side of the equation already underway, this weekend’s pair of races will see just two AMR Vantage GT3 Evo’s compete amongst an expected grid size of thirty cars.
The entry list confirms the #21 Comtoyou Racing silver entry for drivers Jamie Day and Kobe Pauwels as well as the #35 Pro entry from the Walkenhorst Motorsport team for their driver Henrique Chaves and Mateo Villagomez. Whilst the #35 entry has remained static from its time of announcement earlier this year, the Belgian teams entries have been changed since Matisse Lismont departed the team in favour of a Corvette entry just before the start of the Endurance series with his space now taken up by an endurance/sprint entered Day, but with the total removal of their planned #210 entry.
That should have been for their new Brazilian pairing of Ricardo Baptista and Raphael Suzuki as they did within one round of the GT3 Winter Series earlier this year but with just Pro, silver and gold classes being competed at this weekend – that might explain way.
Whilst the abilities of Chaves are well documented, the reigning FFSA GT4 Silver Champion Villagomez is still at the start of his GT3 learning curve although this will not be his debut GT3 event having raced at the Bathurst 12hr and also double stinting within the Endurance Cup rounds with Walkenhorst.
Saturday will see the field to the track for Free Practice, Pre-Qualifying and Qualifying before race 1 at 11:00hrs local with race 2 soon after at 15:45hrs local.

Next stop the 12 Hours of Sebring after todays qualifying for the three Aston Martin entries
With that and the preceding Free Practice sessions came the eventual American debut of the much-anticipated Aston Martin Valkyrie GTP car from the Heart of Racing team along their other Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD entry and that another from the Van Der Steur Racing team.
Being another endurance round on the back of the Rolex 24 opener from Daytona at the end of January sees additional drivers taking part with each of the Heart of Racing entries whilst the Van Der Steur team are only due to compete within the endurance rounds, so their driver line up has remained the same.
The #23 Valkyrie did not participate within the Rolex 24 opener as the team sought additional time before homologating their new creation with its global racing debut then coming at the opening round of the World Endurance Championship. This weekend’s drivers (Ross Gunn, Roman De Angelis and Alex Riberas) were all driving the new Valkyrie within the WEC opener and do so again within the IMSA Championship before both Gunn and De Angelis due to take the GTP entry on during the shorter races within the 2025 season.
Within the GDT class, the #27 Heart of Racing again has two drivers from their WEC LMGT3 commitments as Tom Gamble (Valkyrie) and Zacharie Robichon (LMGT3) partner up again with Casper Stevenson after their P3 podium finish together at Daytona. The #19 Van Der Steur GTD entry meanwhile again features the driving skills of the team’s namesake in Rory Van Der Steur, Valentin Hasse-Clot and Anthony McIntosh in a car that is sometimes overshadowed by the adventures of the HoRT team and their Valkyrie entry.
Three practice sessions and Qualifying done across the fifty-six-car total entry for this weekend’s event finally saw the #23 Valkyrie secure a P12 in class start ahead of tomorrow’s race whilst the #27 HoRT Vantage crew secured P6 in their class. The #19 Van Der Steur crew qualified P16 but that was after their fastest time was deleted by Race Control for causing a red flag within one of the earlier Free Practice sessions.
Whilst both AMR Vantage GTD crews will always be competitive within class to some degree, the Valkyrie GTP (and WEC Hypercar) creation is still work in progress as the car is still two seconds off the pace – something similar to what was seen at the Qatar WEC opener but there, the car performed better than expected.
The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring kicks off at 10:10hrs local on Saturday.

New faces and stepping up places for some within AMR this season
Krognes, 34, whose pedigree includes the overall Nordschleife-based Nürburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS) title in 2012, is the official GT3 lap record holder on the fearsome circuit’s NLS layout since 2022. A long-serving driver for Walkenhorst Motorsport, he will also participate in the team’s SP9 Pro class assault on the Nürburgring 24 Hours in June.
“Christian’s performances over the years at the Nürburgring have ensured he has long been someone we’ve kept an eye on, and when the opportunity arose for us to bring him into the AMR family officially, it seemed like an obvious decision to make,” said Aston Martin Racing Director of Performance Gus Beteli. “He is super-fast, gives precise and consistent feedback, works well in a team environment and is a safe pair of hands behind the wheel; all key attributes when competing in the highest levels of endurance racing.”
Krognes, who since switching from karts to car racing has built his career mainly around Nürburgring-based endurance events, described becoming part of the AMR works driver line-up as the “realisation of dream”.
“Joining Aston Martin was always a childhood dream for me,” said Krognes. “Now I’m looking forward to taking on the challenges ahead with my great teammates at Walkenhorst Motorsport behind the wheel of the spectacular Aston Martin Vantage GT3. I’ve always admired the brand’s heritage and I’m very proud to represent such an iconic manufacturer. Krognes joins arguably the strongest ever AMR works line-up, one full to the brim with stellar talent. Former FIA World Endurance Championship GT champions Marco Sørensen and Thiim both return with multiple programmes, while Spa 24 Hours winner Mattia Drudi will compete in WEC, GTWC Europe and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Aston Martin Formula One® Team Driver Ambassador Jessica Hawkins will step back into an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 for a second consecutive season as she joins Comtoyou Racing in the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup. Her team-mates in the #11 car will be confirmed at a later date.
Hawkins, who recorded two Silver-Am class podium finishes at Donington Park in her maiden British GT Championship season, said: “I’m thrilled to make my debut in GT World Challenge Europe with Comtoyou Racing this year. Having previous experience with the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 from my time in British GT and working with an established team like Comtoyou, I hope will help heading into the season.
“I’d like to thank Arm and Valvoline for their support in helping me to progress to GTWC Europe, it’s an excellent next step in my racing career and will ultimately give me the opportunity to work towards my ultimate dream of competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I’m looking forward to getting started and racing at some new and familiar circuits.”
The Briton will be surrounded by a wealth of talent in the Belgian partner team – a GTWC Europe Endurance Cup Pro class title contender in 2024 thanks in no small part to Spa 24 Hour winners Drudi, Sørensen and Thiim, who return for another season in the #007 for another crack at championship glory.
The newest AMR Driver Academy winner Jamie Day also steps up to the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup with Comtoyou Racing in 2025 in an Aston Martin Vantage GT3. The 2024 British GT GT4 Silver class champion will run in the GTWC Silver division alongside Belgian duo Kobe Pauwels and Matisse Lismont.
Walkenhorst Motorsport’s Pro line-up of Chaves, Krognes and Pittard will be joined by an equally impressive Silver class crew in the #35 Vantage GT3 that features yet another AMR Academy winner – Romain Leroux, alongside Mateo Villagomez and Oliver Söderström.
The AMR partner team will dovetail its Endurance Cup assault with a Pro class campaign in the Sprint Cup for Chaves and Villagomez.

The GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Official Prologue takes place 10-11 March at Paul Ricard in France, with the opening round of the series taking place at the same venue on 11-13 April.

Walkenhorst and Comtoyou confirm their GT World Challenge Sprint and Endurance driver crews today
Having had the series confirm car numbers between the two series and teams just a week or so ago, today’s news confirms all bar one of those crews as many embarked upon the first day of Prologue testing with their competitors to be at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France today.
Noting some welcome returnees and well as some new and upcoming faces within the GT3 family of AMR teams, today saw the following crews formally announced.
Within the GTWCE Sprint Cup Series, there will be three AMR Vantage GT3 Evo crews running for the five-round season – two from the Belgian based Comtoyou Racing team and one from the German based Walkenhorst team.

After a couple of rounds of pre-season racing within the GT Winter Series of late, Kobe Pauwels and Matisse Lismont have been confirmed alongside Brazilian newcomers Ricardo Baptista and Raphael Suzuki whilst the Walkenhorst team will run with Henrique Chaves guiding the GT4 convertee and reigning FFSA GT4 Silver champion Matteo Villagomez.
Then within the five endurance rounds, we will see another five entries from these two teams plus of course the Verstappen.com entry from the 2 Seas Motorsport team for drivers Thierry Vermeulen, Chris Lulham and Harry King.
Comtoyou Racing again line up the Spa 24 winners of last season with Mattia Drudi, Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim again joining forces behind the #007 with Lismont and Pauwels joining up with reigning British GT GT4 Silver Cup Champion Jamie Day for the endurance rounds with Jessica Hawkins plus two driver yet to be advised as a third car effort for the season.
The two Walkenhorst AMR crews also have a degree of stability about them as Henrique Chaves and David Pittard again pair up but with Ross Gunn’s position of old now taken by AMR’s latest Professional driver acquisition in Christian Krognes now alongside. Their teams second will be a silver graded crew where Romain Leroux will be alongside to help both Villagomez (who is also doing a Sprint and Endurance double) and Oliver Soderstrom.

The attending teams at today’s opening sessions of the Prologue test where met with changeable weather conditions which saw the #33 Verstappen.com crew post the fastest times of the three AMR crews than ran over the two sessions held today.
