Never a dull moment at GT Opens visit to Hockenheim at the weekend
Their presence was also the sole AMR Vantage GT3 at the circuit with the Polish based Good Speed Racing team electing not to attend this sixth round of the 2026 season.
Racing again both a seventy-minute race on Saturday before a further sixty-minute race on Sunday, the #97 car was again part of a healthy twenty-seven car line up for the event at the former home of the German Grand Prix.
With Bateman having qualified their car P14 overall/P2 in class, he would take the opening stint to the first race under the then warm and dry track conditions as he held his class position up until the first Safety Car intervention at the fifty-three-minute mark after two cars had come together. From the restart, it was almost straight into the opening of the pit window from where Bateman would hand over to Adam from P13 overall.
For race two, it was Adams turn to qualify the car which he did P3 overall but pole position (naturally) within class ahead of this slightly shorter race but even before the cars reached the start line, the rain was already beginning to fall with all of the cars on slicks.
Starting his stint from P13 overall/P5 in class, Bateman would have just fifteen minutes to complete but even that was shortened by another Safety Car intervention for a car hard off into the wall. That left just five more minutes to go but with a 50% wet and a 50% dry’ish track to deal with for the #97 car to eventually finish P12 overall /P5 in class.
The series now moves onto Monza at the end of the month.

ADAC GT4 Germany goes down to the wire at the final round next month for the Cosy Racing by ESM AMR team
For drivers Jan Philipp Springobb and Philipp Gogollok, they were very much within championship contention as the pairing were now just two points behind the overall leaders thanks to their recent string of pole positions and podium finishes.
Starting under overcast skies but dry circuit, it didn’t take Springob too long to move forward up to second overall behind the #51 BMW as that pairing quickly pulled a gap to those arguing between themselves behind.
After the pit window and when the race went back to green, the #4 car was under investigation for speeding under that FCY which saw them told to take a 50kph visit to the penalty box – an elongated and slower visit at the defined corner but Gogollok was still able to hang onto P2 after all.
Race two, however, was first delayed on Sunday by necessary barrier repairs before ultimately being cancelled as the weather closed in and the circuit was awash in rain. With the final round of the season from /Hockenheim in a months’ time, we wait to find out what will be done about this missed race today.

Sachsenring sees the end of Thiims DTM championship hopes??
Racing this weekend at the Sachensring for the penultimate round of the season, the #007 car of Thiim and the sister #008 car of Nicolas Baert would again be amongst a grid of twenty other GT3 powered crews where Thiim needed a decent handful of points to take that championship cause through into the final round of the season.
Baert would eventually finish P16 overall and his crew would again win the fastest pit stop crew for their efforts.

Bateman and Adam chasing further class podium success as GT Open heads for Germany this weekend
Competing this time around at Hockenheim, Adam will this time be back within the Blackthorn Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 powered alongside his co-driver Charles Bateman around the Hockenheim circuit.
Success has also been intermittent for the #97 crew as Bateman has shared the #97 with three other drivers according to Adam’s or Henrique Chaves international commitments but that hasn’t left him out in being able to visit the class podium once or twice so far.
Competing again within the Pro-Am class, Bateman presently sits second within his Drivers Championship just five points off the class lead with still five races to come over the final three races of the year (including this weekend’s).

Podium success for the Comtoyou Racing team at penultimate round of ADAC GT Masters Series
Racing at the Salzburgring in Austria last weekend as the penultimate round of the German Series, drivers Baudouin Detout and Jamie Day had to overcome early adversity during Saturdays opening eighty minute long race after a start line contact for Day suffered them a puncture and damage which initially put them down to the rear of the pack after Day’s P5 qualifying position.
After the necessary repairs, both Day and then Detout completed something of a miracle recovery drive to eventually finish tenth overall out of the grid size of just thirteen cars.
Sunday, however, was more fruitful for the team and their driver’s first ever visit to the Austrian circuit after Detout placed their car nineth on the grid for the second race although they did have to do it all the hard way again.
Starting normally, the #39 car had to visit the penalty box for an early transgression which saw them fall to the rear of the pack on only the second lap. Progress through the ranks they did for Day to eventually cross the finish line third overall.
Too little too late as far as the championship is concerned as the pairing move up to sixth with just two races at Hockenheim still to come.

Class double for the Blackthorn entry in GT Opens visit to Paul Ricard
Round five to the season, this weekend came off the back of a very disappointing one for both Aston Martin Racing powered runners last time out at the Hungaroring two weeks ago as both the Blackthorn and Good Speed Racing efforts suffered performance wise over that weekends two races as well as a near last lap accident for the #14 Good Speed Racing AMR in race two.
Whilst Adam made for a quick start, a multi-car accident within the midfield of the pack during the opening sequence of corners quickly brought about the Safety Car as nearly twenty minutes of the race clock were lost to the large clean-up operation by the track workers.
Bateman would emerge still in the lead but only just as he now had a plethora of Pro class entries around him and whilst he did hold position for a lap of so, the gradual drop down the order was inevitable although he would always maintain his important class lead.
Race two on Sunday would be the slightly shorter sixty-minute affair with both Bateman and Wira again having to complete the earlier qualifying session with Bateman finishing P23 overall/P7 in class and Wira just ahead P21 overall/P3 in class.
Stops over and Adam had his work cut out down in P7 in class as did Wira within his Am class, but it wasn’t long before the disparage between Adam and his class rivals ahead saw the Scot moving forward taking the last two positions for the class lead going onto the final lap of the race to take their second-class win of the weekend. Wira would be classified as finishing P7 in class despite stopping again nine laps before the end.

Another topsy-turvy DTM and ADAC GT4 Germany Series finale last weekend from Hockenheim
Despite the extremely varied weather at the circuit over the weekend, the Comtoyou Racing team again showed potential within the headlining DTM Series as Gilles Magnus qualified his #7 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 sixth overall ahead of a very wet race one on Saturday before claiming pole for race two on Sunday.
Showing obvious single lap pace, the team will still need to work upon its longevity within each race as both the #7 car and the #8 car of Nicolas Baert fell outside of the top ten within the twenty four strong grid in race one before both cars failed to finish in race two although Magnus did hold his own in race two until his car suffered suspension failure just before the halfway stage.
Within the supporting ADAC GT4 Germany Series, it was again the guesting #4 Eastside Motorsport ream of Storm Gjerdrum and Jan Philipp Springob as well as the two Prosport Racing AMR’s of Marek Bockmann/Anton Abee and Hugo Sasse/Roman Fellner-Feldegg aboard their #17 and #19 cars respectively.
With no crew sadly having any title hopes this season, this weekend was just for ‘experience’ although the #19 crew of Sasse and Fellner-Feldegg did at least manage to round off what has been a very underwhelming season for them with a P3 finish in race two on Sunday. Gjerdrum did also claim a P1 Rookie finish in race one to boost the young drivers ambitions into 2026.

Limited success for the AMR powered crews in both ADAC GT4 Germany and DTM Series visit to the Red Bull Ring
Whilst things started well for the three Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 crews from both the Eastside Motorsport and Prosport Racing teams in qualifying for both races, only the #4 ESM car of Jan Philipp Springob and Storm Gjerdum turned that early form in race success after they eventually finished third overall but having started race one on Saturday from pole position.
The two Prosport entries also started their more characteristically higher up the order in P7 and P8 for the Anton Abee/Marek Bockmann and Hugo Sasse/Roman Fellner-Feldegg driven cars (respectively) for the opening race, but both dropped back in the order during that opening hour-long race for the #19 car to come home P6 and the #17 car P14.
Race two on Sunday should have seen the three Aston Martins starting from P5 for the #17 car and P7 and P8 respectively for the #4 and #19 cars but the race saw both the #4 and #19 cars failing to finish with the #17 car not even starting.
Whilst there wasn’t quite the high and the lows of the GT4 battles for the two Comtoyou Racing AMR Vantage GT3 crews within the headlining DTM Series races, there were definite signs of consistency and overall improvements for their two drivers.
Gilles Magnus again outshined his teammate of Nicolas Baert within his #7 car as the Belgian secured his highest qualifying position of P3 for race one whilst Baert was still an improved P11 whilst the race would see them ultimately finish P9 and P21 respectively.
Race two on Sunday wasn’t quite as good though as the #7 and #8 cars were again at the back of the twenty-two strong grid in P19 (#7) and P20 (#8) before eventually finishing just slightly higher than that in P17 and P19.
Both German based series will now see out their 2025 seasons from Hockenheim in early October.

ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany round off the year at Hockenheim
The final round of the ADAC GT Masters Series finished this weekend at the Hockenheimring certainly at lot better than the season had started for them for at least one half of the Walkenhorst Motorsport entry.
Rounding off this weekend sixth and final double header of the season it was again the pair of Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3’s from the Walkenhorst stable who represented the British marque within the seventeen strong entry.
Mike David Ortmann and Denis Bulatov again paired within the #34 car whilst Chandler Hull and Nico Hantke again paired the team’s #35 Pro-Am entry, and it was that pairing who rounded off this final race weekend best with a final pair of P2 class finishes at the end of each of Saturday and Sunday’s hour-long races.
Unfortunately, too little too late for this pairing as both crews finished the year within the mid table of the overall results.
Unfortunately, too little too late for this pairing as both crews finished the year within the mid table of the overall results.
It was something of a similar thread from within the supporting ADAC GT4 Masters Series which also concluded this weekend but with another AMR Vantage GT4 pairing to add to the season long #55 Zakspeed with ESM Motorsport entry.
The other half of the then reigning ADAC GT4 Germany Championship crew in Hugo Sasse (other half was Mike David-Ortmann) paired up again with his former GT4 European Series co-driver in Raphael Rennhofer and that caused something of a stir between the outgoing 17A variant of the Vantage GT4 of the #1 Prosport Racing entry and the new 2024 #55 Zakspeed entry.
Whilst the #55 crew have apparently been ‘plagued’ with technical issues (particularly with braking) within their new car, the #1 crew were able to arrive and drive to two front row starts over this weekend (Pole position on Sunday) and convert both in podium finishes whilst the Zakspeed crew could offer no higher than P8 over the weekend.
Neither sets of results impacting much upon the remaining championship battles as Zakspeed drivers Philipp Gogollok and Jan Marschalkowski finished the year tenth overall and ninth within the Team’s Championship.

Both the ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany Series race out their 2024 seasons this weekend at Hockenheim
With the Walkenhorst Motorsport team entering a pair of their new 2024 AMR Vantage GT3’s into the series for the first time since Prosport Racings 2019 ill-fated effort with the then 16A variant, hopes were high of something good as last season’s GT4 Germany Champion Mike David Ortmann paired up with Denis Bulatov within the #34 car whilst American racer Chandler Hull paired up with another ex GT4 Germany racer in Nico Hantke.
Starting their season at Oschersleben way back in late April, there were two lowly finishes apiece at the end of that weekend before the #34 crew found both consistency and the podium next time out in Zandvoort before it became role reversals with their sister #35 car (with a double podium) at the Nurburgring.
It was then a quick trip across the Belgian border to Spa Francorchamps where the two Walkenhorst cars were joined by two from the Prosport Racing team (as a one-off event only) where both the #34 and #35 cars again visited the podium. Last time out at the Red bull Ring however at the end of September saw both cars again relegated to the rear of the pack with a P7 finish the best that either could offer by the end of that race weekend.

Last time out at the Red bull Ring however at the end of September saw both cars again relegated to the rear of the pack with a P7 finish the best that either could offer by the end of that race weekend.
They have now reached the end of the season with a final double header event at the former home of the German Grand Prix with nothing more than pride and their sponsors to race for.
Joining this series at the circuit will again be the ADAC GT4 Germany Series where we have seen only one Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 entry from the literal handful that competed within that series last season.
Like their AMR Vantage GT3 powered peers, the #55 Zakspeed with Eastside Motorsport crew of Philipp Gogollok and Jan Marschalkowski have endured a similar season of torment with their new car which apparently had a serious problem with braking through the season.
A constant stream of either a lowly finish or even a DNF haunted the team until the Red Bull Ring last time out finally saw the young pairing take both race pole position in race one (before something broke on the car on the opening lap) before taking the race win at the end of the second race.
The team arrive at the Hockenheimring with absolutely nothing to lose and hopefully they can build upon what was finally seen in Austria, but they won’t be alone this time, as the other half of Prosport Racing’s ADAC GT4 Germany championship winning crew of Hugo Sasse will be racing alongside his 2024 GT4 European co-driver in Raphael Rennhofer at this weekend’s event having skipped the last round of that season earlier in September.

A tough weekend at the office for the Comtoyou Racing Team in Sprint Cup
The biggest surprise for this round was the number of times the SRO visited that touchy subject of Balance of Performance during the meeting, something which eventually saw the series adjust that of the AMR Vantage GT3’s BoP three times in a quest for their infamous parity amongst brands.
Despite arriving at the circuit as newly crowned Spa 24 Champions, qualifying for the opening hour-long race on Saturday saw all four cars from the team finish no higher than P23 within the thirty-two strong entry.
Again fielding a fourth car across the three available classes, it was the new #21 Gold Cup crew of David Pittard and Matisse Lismont car who headed the AMR quartet over the #7 Pro car of Matteo Drudi and Nicolas Baert, #11 Gold Cup runners James Jakes and newcomer Razvan Umbrarescu brought up the rear with revised driver line up of #12 Silver cup entry of Dante Rappange and Lorens Lecertua.
Despite the newly imposed loss of car weight and additional boost, none of the Aston’s were able to correct the expected qualifying position within the opening half of the race despite the likes of Pittard starting the #21 car and race one quickly descended into one that Comtoyou Racing will forget as the #7 Pro car eventually finished P17 overall and the #21 car P21 overall, P5 in Gold Cup.
Sunday saw the Vantage GT3 offered further weight loss and performance enhancement ahead of Q2 and that saw the #7 Pro climb the timing screen to claim sixth overall on the grid although both gold cars were still down at the wrong end of the table (no higher than P21) and with the #12 car setting no time at all.
With track temperatures remaining high, it was a better opening half race experience for the #7 car as Drudi quickly made the most of the errors of others to move up to P4 by the time the pit window opened.
Umbrarescu’s return to the series would however be a short-lived affair in race 2 as a spin into turn one just before the pit window put the #12 cars endeavours at an end as he brought out a FCY.
Service over and Baert’s retained the #7 P4 position whilst Pittard was now aboard the #21 car and had moved up to P15 overall – third in class although that would soon change as the rear window popped out of place after contact from the Audi behind into T1, hindering the cars aero-dynamics and forcing the AMR factory driver to eventually pit.
By the end, the #7 Pro car eventually finished P6 overall after a five second post race time penalty was applied for track limits - a more representative pace that what race 1 would have suggested despite Baert being hounded all the way around. The #12 silver cup car did not recover from their Q2 issues to finish at the rear and with both the #21 and #11 cars being non finishers. Certainly room for thought within each car ahead of the next round at Magny Cours at the tail end of August.
Next stop for the Comtoyou Racing team however is just next weekend as Endurance Cup series resumes from the Nurburgring.

Another tough GT4 European meeting brings slight reward for two AMR powered crews
Another two frantic races from the GT4 European Series from Hockenheim this weekend saw little reward for the eight Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 crews amongst another healthy and highly competitive grid of fifty-one runners.
High temperatures and blistering sunshine this time around produced a differing set of considerations for the teams and drivers to make after the cooler temperatures and precipitation of the last round at Spa Francorchamps three weeks ago as tyre management again became the focus of their attention.
High temperatures and blistering sunshine this time around produced a differing set of considerations for the teams and drivers to make after the cooler temperatures and precipitation of the last round at Spa Francorchamps three weeks ago as tyre management again became the focus of their attention.
Saturday’s opening race saw Roberto Faria become the highest qualifying AMR driver in P6 within his (and Baudouin Detout’s) #39 Racing Spirit of Leman car with the sister #82 car of Mateo Villagomez (and Jamie Day) down in P10/
Unfortunately, their joint sister #74 car of Alexandre Machado (and Kevin Kullmann) didn’t see much of the opening race here either, following on from his Spa qualifying accident that sidelined the car for the entire round, as contact was made going into turn one for the first time that put paid to both their efforts.
With all the Aston’s looking slow compared to certainly the BMW’s, Ford’s and Alpine’s, early place losses were inevitable for all the AMR crews as the race eventually settled into a natural rhythm. The #100 Prosport Racing AMR of Fabio Rauer (with Henrik Still) was another early casualty as he slowed and stopped off track at T16, something that he and another car stopping brought out the Safety Car just ahead of the pit stop window.
Despite recovering somewhat from early race place losses, the #39 car of Faria would also not make the opening pit window after damage received from unseen contact with another car left them with no further to go in pit lane whilst the #5 Mirage Racing AMR of Josh Miller and Ruben Del Sarte saw them penalised with a revisit to pit lane for a too short a minimum pit stop time.
With all the stops over, the #84 RSLM car of Day was now the highest placed AMR in P8 although the #72 GPA Racing AMR of Florent Grizaud and Kevin Jimenez were hanging onto P3 in class within their Am class and with the #7 Mirage Racing Pro-Am entry of Stanislav Safronov and Aleksandre Vaintrub now P3 in theirs.
Another FCY and resulting Safety Car brought all the cars back together again with just 15 minutes of the hour-long race remaining for another frantic dash to the flag but as the laps countered off, tyres started to hinder some as the race eventually finished to another BMW powered win. The #82 car eventually finished P8 overall but whilst the #7 car hung on to take P2 in Pro-Am, the #72 GPA Racing car eventually finished third in theirs.
Sunday’s second race was very much of the same ilk as the Alpines, BMW’s and Ford’s raced off out front to leave the Aston Martins dicing to be the best of the rest again.
The #100 Prosport car of Still hadn’t got off to the best of starts having been consigned to the back of the grid but that would get even worse when the car again had to pull over out of the race with technical issues just after the halfway point for a double DNF.
Others, like the #82 RSLM were having to work very hard for their money just to remain in contention as there were some clearly faster cars out there than the Vantage GT4. A lengthy Safety Car period for two cars going off within the opening five minutes helped to manage tyre longevity at the expense of a thrilling first half of the race with the mainly faster drivers aboard.
The #5 Mirage car would again be in the wars as contact either side of the pit window saw firstly Miller lose ground before secondary contact that would see Del Sarte penalised for causing a collision before retiring themselves from the race as a result.
Another late Safety Car again brought the pack together with just ten minutes to go, but again, the Aston simply didn’t have the pace to compete with the brands ahead as any hopes of a podium finish within the silver class needing nothing short of a minor miracle with the #72 GPA crews hope of another class podium also being spun around at the hairpin and the #39 RSLM again in the wars with frontal damage.
At the flag, the only AMR crew celebrating were the #7 Mirage Racing Pro-Am crew of Safronov and Vaintrub as a last lap lunge earned them a class win to add to their P2 finish of Saturday to help elongate their championship lead.
The series now takes a few weeks off before their penultimate round of the season from Monza in late September before concluding in Saudi Arabia in late November.
