Rounding off last weekends AMR Vantage GT4 racing news
The former competing down in Jarama for the second round of that series after the opening round roan concurrently with the races then of the Iberian Supercars Series but with a reduced AMR powered entry list of just three cars amongst the twenty-three strong GT4 entry.
Race two did get slightly better for at least one AMR runner as the #28 car turned their earlier misfortune around to secure a P12 overall / P2 in the GT4 Bronze class finish whilst the #77 car was this time a non-finisher with the #52 car down in P17 overall/P7 in GT4 Pro.
Hopes were high going into this round for the four AMR Vantage GT4 powered runners with the #66 Van Der Steur crew of Trenton Estep and Allen Patten securing a second row start in third after the rain affected preceding track sessions.
There were also early issues for the #14 Circle H Racing AMR of David Hampton/Thomas Merril and Martin Sarukhanyan as they also disappeared behind the pit wall during this opening caution – to return some fifteen minutes later but to run off the pace before finally coming to a halt on track thirty minutes before the end.

Four Aston Martins back in Michelin Pilot Challenge for Watkins Glen this weekend
Last time out at Mid-Ohio, the series enjoyed the status of the main event as they embarked upon another four-hour race for the second time this season two weeks ago – an event which again saw the four Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 entries struggle.
Despite claiming a front row start, the #46 Team TGM car of Paul Holton and Matt Plumb only managed to secure a P11 finish at the end whilst the #71 Rebel Rock Racing AMR of Frank DePew, Robin Liddell and Andrew Davis ran out of time with their recovery driver to secure an AMR powered best of P8.
Only the Bronze Cup entered #64 Team TGM AMR of Ted Giovanis, Hugh Plumb and Kris Wilson enjoyed any kind of success with a P17 in class finish – P2 within their Bronze Cup sub class whilst the #15 Van Der Steur Bronze Cup entry of Christine and Ben Sloss failed to finish (although they were classified as finishing third).
Track action will begin on Thursday with Free Practice 1 before Free Practice 2 and Qualifying on Friday before an 11:45hrs local start to their two-hour fifth round of the season.

The #27 Heart of Racing AMR flies solo this weekend at IMSA Sprint Cups visit to Mid-Ohio
Despite featuring prototype entries from the DPi, LMP2 and LMP3 classes there is this time only room for the GTD cars as it becomes the turn of the topflight GTD Pro class to take a sabbatical from the proceedings.
That makes for thirteen cars with this time but with only one Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD this time from the Heart of Racing team for drivers Roman de Angelis and Maxime Martin and their #27 car.
Despite an overall class win for their GTD Pro car at Long Beach back in early April, luck and fortune have been something that have sadly evaded the #27 car all season since the reigning Sprint Cup Champion (De Angelis) hooked up with his new AMR factory driver from Belgium at the start of the season.
A late DNF at Long Beach before a mid-table P7 finish by the end of the next spring race at Weathertech raceway Laguna Seca has been pretty much the best that they have got back so far for the crew that sits unsarcastically at the wrong end of the points table going into this round.
Free Practice on Friday before Qualifying and a further Free Practice on Saturday will again be the feature of this round before the teams embark upon another one hour and forty-minute race on Sunday.

Heart of Racing looking to steal IMSA GTD lead on the streets of Detroit
The IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship moves slightly north again this weekend as the GT and prototype cars prepares to support the IndyCar Series at their annual visit to the street circuit of Detroit.
There will be no GT4 Michelin Pilot Challenge support this time round as their next venture out will be at Watkins Glen towards the end of this month.
A somewhat disappointing twenty car entry spread across the three permitted IMSA Classes (no LMP3 cars) will be there which luckily features the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GTD for drivers Roman de Angelis and newly appointed full season driver Ross Gunn again in the largest class of the Championship with twelve cars.
Last time out at Mid-Ohio nearly a month ago, the team secured a hard fought P4 finish to come away in second place in the GTD Championship as the Championship moves onto Detroit. This race we understand, will also be Gunn’s first street race experience so there will be much for them both to learn!

Heart of Racing realign their IMSA GTD crew for remainder of IMSA season
This news comes following two top-five finishes for the team, most recently, a third-place finish at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours Of Sebring Presented By Advance Auto Parts, and previous to that, a fifth-place finish at the Rolex 24 of Daytona.
De Angelis, 19, is in his second season with the team whilst continuing as a full-time engineering student in Canada. Meanwhile for Gunn, a highly acclaimed young works driver for Aston Martin, the drive will check off the inaugural full-season drive in the U.S. box on his resume.
“I am very excited to be able to pair Ross with Roman for the remainder of the IMSA series”, said James. “It has been my goal since January and I appreciate Aston Martin Racing giving our IMSA program the highest priority globally when assigning their young factory star. Roman has performed brilliantly for the team and I believe the 2 young guns will be a formidable pairing in the sprint races and everyone at Heart of Racing is excited for the remainder of the season."
The next race will be the Acura Sports Car Challenge in less than two weeks at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.

Best performance to date from AMR teams in Michelin Pilot Challenge
Sebring and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge again provided us all with another highly exciting two hours of mixed GT4 and TCR class racing yesterday as thirty-five cars thundered again the infamously bumpy former military airbase circuit.
Yesterday’s Qualifying had seen a great performance from the two participating Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4’s from both Volt Racing/Archangel Motorsport and the Stoner Car Care/Automatic Racing teams however the third placed #7 Volt car of Alan Brynjolfsson was soon to be penalised for a technical infringement on the cars suspension post Qualifying. That would see them start from the rear of the GS field whilst the #09 Automatic car of a deputising Brandon Kidd would start from P7.
With weather systems of no concern this year, the race opening under clear blue skies and sunshine with high track temperatures that would prove problematic for some at the compulsory stops. Early gains from Brynjolfsson got him up the order whilst Kidd consolidated their starting position as the opening laps passed by.
Trouble soon hit the #7 car in their over exuberance to get forward with rear end contact with the #18 Toyota – contact and damage that would see that car sadly pit and retire as well as an action that would earn the #7 with a drive through penalty and a return to the rear of the GS field to boot.
After forty minutes of racing the pit window opened with the #7 car first to come in from the pair of AMR’s with Brynjolfsson giving way to Trent Hindman, soon followed by Kidd after a terrific debut drive at the circuity for the team. Automatic would later report that the #09 car had suffered a puncture during Kidd’s stint but that didn’t appear noticeable on his performance.
Just after these cars had pitted, the race suffered its first FCY caution period as tyre carcasses were left strewn around the track. During this period (as having pitted with 1hr 16mins left to go) the #7 car pitted for fuel to help any longer fuel stop later in the race. Rob Ecklin, now aboard the #09 was now getting muscled out by the younger/better drivers and they would drop from the high of P2 during the start of the pit stop cycle and their average position of P8 during Kidd’s stint down to P13.
Back to green with just under an hour remaining quickly saw a flying Hindman hit the top 10 for the first time claiming the fastest lap of the race so before (just 15 minutes later of their last stop) pit again for a final splash to fuel him to the end.
As the final fifteen minutes counted by, Ecklin was holding onto P13 in his Stoner Car Care company liveried GT4 whilst Hindman out front was chasing down the car in front for P3 overall. Sadly for them, time ran out and they had to ‘settle’ for an incredible P4 finish after their earlier demotion to the rear of the grid and subsequent drive through. Automatic would later state third party contact for Ecklin hampered any chance of progression during his stint.
Each result was an improvement on their last at the opening race at Daytona as the series moves onto Mid-Ohio in mid-May!
