Craft Eurasia qualify first at Le Mans
Friday, June 15, 2012
Craft Eurasia drivers, Frank Yu and Tomonobu Fujii, qualified their brand new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 car on pole position for this weekend’s Aston Martin Festival support race at the Le Mans 24 Hours. The car was delivered brand new to the team earlier this week and the race is being treated as a shakedown prior to shipping the car to Malaysia for the Sepang MME 12 Hour race. “I love this car” beamed Frank Yu after his first drive in practice and this summed up the feeling of the whole team especially after Fujii set a stunning pole time of 4m 00.8 seconds.
Qualifying saw Frank Yu stop early due to a puncture and with Fujii behind the wheel he pitted after one lap for a pre-cautionary check of the power steering system. Once on his way he was back in the pits with another puncture and he had a few minutes left to qualify once a replacement tyre was fitted. His only flying lap was good for pole.
‘We were treating this as a shakedown but the car was so fast out of the box our aim is to race to win on Saturday” reported Craft Eurasia’s Mark Goddard. “The car is a huge advance on the DBRS9 GT3 car we ran in 2010 and this has to be best shakedown the team has ever experienced”
The race will take place at 11.15am on Saturday morning.
