Though weekend at the Lausitzring for Young Driver AMR

Young Driver AMR experienced a rather difficult weekend at the sixth round of the ADAC GT Masters at the Lausitzring: Instead of fighting with the competitors, the Aston Martin-Team had again fight with the series spec-tire and the balance of performance. Kristian Poulsen and Christoffer Nygaard drove their Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 to a rather disappointing 15th and 16th place finish in the two races, while Ferdinand and Johannes Stuck experienced a weekend to forget as they had to sit out both races due to technical issues on their Aston Martin.

A lack of top speed due to the balance of performance and no grip: This gave Young Driver AMR two very though races at the Lausitzring. Similar to the most recent round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, Young Driver AMR could not make the series spec-tire work on the Aston Martin V12 Vantage. In combination with a lack of top seed, Poulsen and Nygaard experienced two difficult races. Despite a very good performance on the driver side, the two Danes were denied points at the Lausitzring. Eventually, Poulsen finished third on Saturday and second on Sunday in the amateur championship and reduced the gap to the championship leader.

„This weekend was a really mixed bag for us“, Young Driver AMR-team principal Hardy Fischer said. „The series spec tire doesn’t fit to the suspension kinematics of the Aston Martin. We tried almost everything in terms to make the tires work on our car. But unless the series gives us a tire, which will work on our car, this problem will not be solved. But I have the feeling, nobody in the series organisation cares about this problem and that’s really annoying me. In both races we didn’t had a good starting position, which makes races not easier. I’m really sorry for the Stuck-brothers as we couldn’t fix the problem on their car at the track, so they could not start. I really hope the next round at the Nürburgring in three weeks will be better.“

Christoffer Nygaard: „We are too slow on the straights, so we do not have to wonder if we get passed. In the corners, we have a good speed and can also close the gap, but at the end, this doesn’t help at all. We certainly had not a perfect set-up this weekend, but despite this, there would not have been much more possible here anyway.

Kristian Poulsen: “Our car ran well, but was too slow and it was very hard to take on the competition, due to a lack of top speed. We can’t make the tires work. In the second race, I drove my fastest lap in the penultimate lap, which clearly proofs this. As for race 2, to finish 15th after starting 24 is under the circumstances we had this weekend is o.k.”
