Another fine weekend of motor racing to look forward to

Wednesday, April 05, 2017

This weekend of course sees the start of the new Blancpain GT Series Asia that kick off at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

The V12 Vantage GT3 of CMRT by Eurasia Motorsport is the sole AMR representative in the series so far, a series that looks as though it will render its more established series rival - GT Asia with insufficient team interest to leave it as a viable alternative to the Blancpain series.

CMRT driver James Cai and Kenneth Lim have already been at the wheel with some of their series rivals as today was private test day for the event. The official entry shows 30 cars entered across the mainly GT3 spectrum but now with 6 GT4's

With further Free Practice sessions tomorrow, Saturday will see Qualifying and Race 1(1 hour) plus a further 1 hour race on Sunday.

Over in Germany, Saturday will see the running of the second VLN event of the year with again just three runners from the Aston Martin Stable.

Joining the young German single seater driver Kim-Luis Schramm in the Test Centre Vantage N24 will be non other than the Nordschliefe guru himself, Peter Cate. Like we said after VLN1 it appears that this young German is a young man with potential and is one to keep an eye on.

The other Aston Martin Test Centre V12 Vantage S car is shared between to former Rotek Racing drivers in Tony Richards and David Thilenius with Heinz Jurgen Kroner who drove the #144 car in VLN1.

Closer to home for some, this weekend will also see the start of the Dunlop Britcar Endurance Championship on the Silverstone International Circuit.

Here you will find two Aston Martin Racing runners in the guise of Hud Motorsports V12 Vantage GT3 running the car in competition for the first time with drivers Nigel hudson and Adam Wilcox alongside the return of Chris Murphy's, Whitebridge Motorsport prepared V8 Vantage GT4.

After Murphy's championship wining run last year (with the help of Jody Fannin and Jonny Cocker) he also won the Aston Martin Racing's Newcomer of the Year Award at their Blenheim Palace gala event as well as enjoying three days of testing with the factory team at their Portimao winter test.

Sadly, there are no AMR representatives in either the 24H Series at the Red Bull Ring in Austria nor this weekends first round of the Australian GT Trophy Series event from Sandown.
