British GT 2018 is go......................

Friday, March 30, 2018

The waiting is now over - the first two free testing sessions of the 2018 British GT Championship are now in the bag - tomorrow sees the two, more formal Free Practice sessions before Qualifying later in the afternoon and Monday's races.

Judging by some of the social media posts of last night, at least two of the Aston Martin Racing teams only arrived at the circuit late on after last minute seat fittings and liveries were completed back at the Prodrive factory.

This morning was our first chance to see the new livery actually applied to Flick Haigh's and Jonny Adam's #75 Optimum Motorsport prepared Vantage GT3 (above) as well as the two Academy Motorsport prepared V8 Vantage GT4's of Matt Nichol-Jones/Will Moore and Jan Jonck/Tom Wood (below).

During the two by one hour sessions today, the teams enjoyed a chilly but at least a damp to drying track and each clocked a similar number of laps per session whilst they each cycled through their test/race itinerary. It appears however, that Jan Jonck in the #61 Academy had some kind of off track excursion at Old Hall Corner that has left both him and co driver Tom Wood on the back foot in GT4 after having to sit out of both sessions today whilst repairs were/are being made. Hopefully for them the damage is not too severe.

Whilst this years championship also involves a larger number of factory drivers - not just from Aston Martin Racing but who will all be racing for both honour and inter team bragging rights, the real competition will of course be with their respective Gentleman drivers not only in how they deal with the 35 car entry around the tight and twisty 2.7 mile circuit but also how they deal with a deteriorating weather forecast for race day on Bank Holiday Monday. Even the word 'snow' is used - typical for a bank holiday really!
