Adam gets pinged - Gunn flies in and all is well again with this weekends British GT AMR runners

Friday, July 23, 2021

Today’s informal track action ahead of this weekend’s start to the British GT Championship got off to something of a faltered start today as it was confirmed that Beechdean AMR’s Jonny Adam would be sitting out this fourth round due to his need to COVID self-isolate.

We had earlier seen a post from a somewhat tired looking Ross Gunn checking into yet another airplane seat heading to Spa Francorchamps for an (as then) unexplained reason.

Only later in the day did the Championship confirmed the reason for Gunn’s journey to the circuit as he re-joins his former race partner for Sunday’s race as Adam sits tight back at home and hopes all will be well in time for next week’s Spa 24.

Now racing and leading the class in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship with the Heart of Racing team, Gunn needs no additional time within the Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3 to get up to speed after last weekend’s class win at Lime Rock.

Today’s private testing at the 4.3mile circuit had twenty one of the twenty-two cars clock in lap times with the #7 Beechdean AMR car of Howard and Gunn coming home P6 overall. Also, at the event is of course the slightly rebuilt #27 Newbridge AMR Vantage GT4 of Matt Topham and Darren Turner. Having suffered a bizarre DNF at Donington Park during the first Safety Car period at the start of that race, the team have arrived in Belgium full of purpose as they clocked the fastest GT4 Pro-Am time of the bunch today and was the second fastest GT4 overall.

Finally, and contrary to usual live streaming services from the Championship, live coverage will be aired this weekend of all sessions starting from Free Practice 2 tomorrow and up to and including (obviously) Sunday’s two-hour race.

Spa Francorchamps never disappoints in one way or another, so you are best advised not to miss it.
