A more timely and sedate pace of pre event testing for the Aston Martin MPC teams at Daytona

Again supporting the headlining IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship at Daytona this weekend is Michelin Pilot Challenge Series of GS and TCR classed cars.

Unlike their bigger brothers within the IMSA Championship, this series is not mandated to be at the Roar before the 24 so as such, this weekend’s entry list of forty cars is not necessarily representative of the cars/teams that will enter their first round of the series next Friday.

What we do have, is four Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4’s from the Volt Racing, Automatic Racing with some familiar names amongst them and also the newly converted to both the series and marque, from the NTE Sport team.

With two Free Practice sessions already in the bank from yesterday, the Michelin Pilot Challenge teams have a further two Free Practice sessions available to them again today and a final one after the IMSA Qualifying race on Sunday.

Early indications on the timing screens did reinforce something that we already knew – that the Porsche 718 GT4 RS is a quick race car and remains fast it does with seven such cars populating the top twelve positions after yesterday’s final session!

What was surprising from yesterday was the pace of the #27 Automatic Racing AMR Vantage GT4 entry for Paul Kiebler and Jon Branam as well as the #12 NTE Sport AMR of Manny Franco, Romeo Kapudija and Josh Hurley over their stable mates as they took turns to place their car ahead of the more established AMR runners of Volt Racings Alan Brynjolfsson/Trent Hindman and Stoner Car Care's Brandon Kidd and Ramin Abdolvahabi.

Many questions remain unanswered as we learned yesterday that the NTE Sport entry is not a full season MPC entry, we haven’t heard yet if the #27 Automatic Racing entry into the new for 2022 Bronze Cup is either nor why has Volt Racing apparently switched technical partnership from the Archangel team to the Wright Motorsport team?

There’s still plenty of time for all of that as them then this weekend – this is just a test weekend!!
