Next stop Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca for the two Heart of Racing AMRs
Monday, April 25, 2022
After two gruelling endurance rounds at the start of the year from Florida, the opening Sprint round under the sunshine and warmth of Long Beach California proved itself to be the ideal tonic for a team otherwise blighted with technical issues and accident woes.
A GTD Pro Class win for driver Ross Gunn and Alex Riberas around the tight street circuit layout of Long Beach at the end of the race certainly went a long way to put smiles back on the faces of the team although their Sprint Cup contending car of Maxime Martin and Roman De Angelis failed to capitalise upon some good fortune mid race. After their pit stop strategy left Martin out front in class, a collision with another car at a restart after one of many FCY’s literally impacted into the side of the #27 and then into the barrier with terminal steering damage.
This weekend’s event from the Weathertech raceway Laguna Seca is the second Sprint Cup race of the season but again features both cars as each result counts towards the new for 2022 GTD Pro Championship.
Thirty-two cars from the DPi, LMP2, GTD Pro and GTD classes are expected this weekend with five other cars competing against the #23 of Gunn and Riberas and a further thirteen GTD cars against De Angelis and Martin.
Track activity around the 2.2-mile circuit starts on Friday evening with the first Free Practice session before a further practice and Qualifying session on Saturday. The race begins at 15.10hrs local on Sunday.
