Three Astons return for latest IMSA endurance round from Watkins Glen

Tuesday, June 21, 2022

This weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen from Watkins Glen in upstate New York brings back the endurance side of the Weathertech Sportscar Championship after a number of consecutive sprint races filled the gaps.

For Aston Martin Racing fans, that means for the return of the #44 Magnus Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD after they were last seen at Sebring 12hrs way back in mid-March as well as the two full season entries from the Heart of Racing team.

The #44 car will see the return of drivers John Potter, Andy Lally and Spencer Pumpelly after they (and Jonny Adam) secured a P2 class finish at the end of the Rolex 24 at Daytona and then P6 in class at Sebring.

They go up against a GTD Class of sixteen other entries including the #27 Heart car of Roman de Angelis, Maxime Martin and Ian James whilst in GTD Pro, the #23 Heart car of Ross Gunn and Alex Riberas go up against six other class rivals for this sixth round of the season so far and third round of the Endurance Cup.

Whilst the results have not gone in favour of the Heart of Racing team in the endurance rounds so far, the #23 GTD Pro crew just nine points behind the class leaders whilst in GTD, the #27 crew sit just one point ahead of the #44 crew in the table who are just eight points behind the pace setting McLaren team at the top.

Friday sees the first Free Practice session (which is just as well as most of the Heart of Racing crews are at Spa Francorchamps these weeks for the Total Energies Spa 24 Official test) before FP2 and Qualifying on Saturday. The race begins at 10:40hrs local.
