Its an early wake up call for this weekends IMSA events from Lime Rock Park

Saturday, July 16, 2022

With the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship and supporting Michelin Pilot Challenge Series having already set their qualifying times last night over at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut, this weekend’s racing will come thick and fast later TODAY thanks to this event’s compact timetable.

Only the two GTD and GTD Pro classes are in attendance for this Sprint Cup round of the season with fifteen cars populating the field for what will be frantic battle for track position around the extremely tight yet beautiful 1.5-mile circuit.

Last night’s qualifying had seen both Heart of Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD’s at the head of their respective classes but in the end, they had to settle for P3 in the GTD Pro class for the #23 car of Ross Gunn and Alex Riberas and P3 in the GTD Class for the #27 car of Roman De Angelis and Maxime Martin.

Track position and tyre management will be key to a successful visit to Lime Rock for all of the runners today with tyre degradation high and track space low for their two hours forty-minute race that starts later today at 3:10pm local

In the earlier Michelin Pilot Challenge Series qualifying session, the sole Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 of Volt Racing’s Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman had to settle for a P10 overall and P9 in their GS class as many GS runners struggled to beat the times of the ‘slower’ TCR cars who had ran earlier in the day.

This time around, and again with tyre management and strategy being key with the inevitable periods of caution, the differing classes in this series may even disappear with the top running TCR cars being able to compete for an overall finishing position amongst the GS (GT4) based cars.

Their two-hour race begins at 11:05am local.
