Two intriguing races are about to get underway as both the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship and supporting Michelin Pilot Challenge Series run their latest rounds at the Road America circuit by the Great Lakes, just north of Chicago.

Each running their eight round of their seasons so far, it will be the earlier starting IMSA Weathertech race that will capture most attention as the Heart of Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTD crews again hope to continue with championship momentum gained over recent rounds that have made up for their poor season openers.

In GTD Pro, the #23 car of Alex Riberas and Ross Gunn again hit the front row for this morning’s two and a but hour race, carrying on from where they had left off at Lime Rock Park (also with pole) and hopefully they will convert that into another class win too. Their sister #27 AMR Vantage of Roman De Angelis and Marco Sorenson just missed out upon doing likewise within their own GTD class in Qualifying where we shall see that car starting P5 in today’s race.

Tidying up the pieces from our earlier posts, the #93 Andretti Autosport AMR Vantage GTD is now in attendance despite being listed in earlier entry lists.

Then concluding the race weekend will be the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series which has seen better Qualifying performances from its six Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 entries within the series twenty-four strong GS class.

One minor correction going into the weekend saw Pat Gallagher being drafted in to replace an ailing Moisey Uretsky after the Floridian contracted COVID from somewhere and whilst his car remains in great hands with both Gallagher and Michael Cooper – we wish him a speedy recovery.

All other AMR entries remained as listed and it was to be the #44 Accelerating Performance AMR that claimed top honours this time around after Gallagher placed the car P5 on the grid for this afternoon’s two-hour race with the #19 Van Der Steur car of Rory Van Der Steur and Austin McCusker close behind in P7.

Both Team TGM car fill the fifth and sixth row of the GS class with the #88 Archangel car of Todd Coleman and Billy Johnson P18 and the #09 Stoner Car Care AMR of Rob Ecklin and Ramin Abdolvahabi P20.

Whilst the main IMSA race gets underway now, the MPC race is scheduled to start at 15.55Hrs local.
