A quick AMR round up of recent events (UPDATED)

Monday, December 11, 2023

Sitting within the doldrums of the closed season around most of the world and the snippets of racing that is available to us in both Asia and the Middle East, there hasn’t been anything too dramatic out of the Aston Martin Racing stables to report on.

Today news saw Aston Martin Racing confirm that Dane Marco Sorenson joins fellow factory driver Ross Gunn in continuing his AMR affiliation for what has been described as a new multi-year contract. Both drivers already have a busy 2024 season in prospect with IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship duties with the Heart of Racing team for both and a further World Endurance Championship undertaking with the D’Station Racing team for Sorenson in news released so far.

With the Heart of Racing and Magnus Racing teams running the new 2024 iteration of the Vantage GTD (GT3) for the first time at last week’s IMSA test from Daytona, the intervening period between now and the start of the 2024 season in just a couple of months’ time is looking like another hectic period for the Prodrive concern back in the UK as they get out as many examples of the new 2024 Vantage GT3 and GT4 as they can.

The new Forsetti Motorsport team based in Norfolk have also recently announced their first steps into GT4 competition as they confirm an entry for Ginetta Champion Mikey Porter into the GT Winter Series that starts in Estoril in mid-January.

UPDATE  - Today (Tuesday) sees the team confirm that former R-Racing and Mirage racer AMR Vantage GT4 driver Jamie Day will partner Porter within the Forsetti car after a string of tests together in the UK.

They will hopefully be joining a multiple AMR Vantage GT4 entry from the German Prosport Racing team who have used the Spanish/Portuguese based series as a pre-season warm up for their GT4 driver crews for the last couple of seasons. If either or both teams participate within this week’s pre-season test from Portimao is yet to be seen.

Elsewhere, the Thailand Super Series concludes next weekend with their fifth and final round at the Chang International Circuit, near Buriram. Again, we wait to see of the Viper Niza team of Douglas Khoo and Domonic Ang compete within that round with their AMR Vantage GT3 having opened their Asian Le Mans Series account earlier this month with their LMP3 instead.

Then, just into the New Year we sadly now see the omission of the #37 Modena Silverstone AMR Vantage GT3 from the 24H Series visit to Dubai, but their entry is still there within the latter 6hrs of Abu Dhabi later in the month so it will be interesting what and who comes of this.

UPDATE - Further to this, we also now understand that the Chouest Povoledo Racing team - former AMR Vantage GT4 runners in both the GT America and GT4 America Series of course will be moving up to GT3 in GT3, but that unfortunately looks like that's with Mercedes.

The racing may have finished out on track around much of the world but the racing to be prepared in time for 2024 has only just begun.
