Kobe Pauwel takes the Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy win for 2025
Congratulations to Belgian Racer Kobe Pauwels who today was announced as the latest winner of the coveted Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy for 2025.
Following in the footsteps of a long line of eight other accomplished racers including that of his 2025 teammate (Jamie Day) who last year secured the same prize in a year saw both Pauwels and Day compete within both the SRO GT World Challenge Europe Sprint and Endurance Cup Series with the Comtoyou Racing AMR team.
Their success came within the Sprint Cup Series where they secured the Silver Class Championship after a dominant second half to that season within their Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3.
With the season then over at the final round of the season in Barcelona, there was still a final evaluation process that many entered drivers still had to endure at the Bahrain International Circuit where they took to the track within the Racing Spirit of Leman AMR Vantage LMGT3 car.
For Pauwel, his 2025 season has yet to come to an end as he partners both Jonny Adam and Giacomo Petrobelli aboard the Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn AMR Vantage GT3 within the six race, three round Asian Le Mans Series that starts this weekend in Sepang.
Congratulations.

Dice quickly turns for Volante Rosso at Queensland
Having promised so much at the opening round of the season from Phillip Island only to struggle last time out at Sydney Motorsport Park, the #1 car of Liam Talbot and Declan Fraser looked back at this weekend’s two races that looked to be going back in the right direction after race one only to fall foul with technical issues and driver errors during the second.
Having started the race weekend with torrential rain, both races at least got underway in the dry although the weekend’s opener took a bizarre turn of events as two Audi’s managed to spin out even before the opening corner. Luckily avoiding that, the #1 car of Fraser was able to move up from its P9 Qualifying position to fourth after the Safety Car restart. Looking racey, Talbot was pushing the #26 Ferrari hard as the weather was again looking a little unsettled up towards the pit stop window before giving way to his AMR Drivers Academy team-mate.
Despite no success time penalty to serve, the #1 car unnecessarily earned themselves a drive through penalty for working on the car whilst the engine was running but that only dropped the crew down from third to fourth by the end.
Race two was equally cool and overcast as the first as Fraser this time started the #1 car from Talbot’s qualifying position of P9 where Fraser was quickly up to sixth but again tight behind the #26 Ferrari again.
Another car stranded in the gravel brought out the Safety Car for the first time, that slowing of pace brought about unwelcome gremlins within the #1 car as Fraser suddenly struggled for pace and quickly dropped two or three places. Further time was then lost within their stop as Talbot was unable to fire up the V8 again.
Going down at least a lap with that electrical issue, any hopes of decent championship points were over, but Talbot is not a driver who ordinarily gives up on anything. That ambition may have been the cause of a later spin that left him broadside across the track – exaggerated again by his ability not being able to restart the car in a timely fashion for an eventual finish at the rear of the grid.
The team will be hoping for much more next time out at Sandown at the end of July.

Racar Motorsport dominate in Iberian Supercars visit to Jarama
Although three of four Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 powered crews entered amongst the thirty-three strong, multi-classed field, it was sadly not the same for the NGT Classic entered GTX car of Miguel Ferreira after his freshly re-liveried #700 car failed to finish within Sunday’s opener and for it not to appear within the second race of the weekend.
That said, that didn’t stop the Racar crews and in particularly the two Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy entered Roberto Faria and Mathieu Martins from almost continually leading from the front within their #77 entry as they embraced two second row starts for each of the two, hour long races to bring back an overall P2 at the end of race one before winning race two later in the day within their GT4 Pro class.
The #79 Racar crew of Vasco Oliviera and Francisco Carvalho did similar within their Bronze classed entry as they rewarded their new car service provider with an improving P3 in race one to a P2 in race 2 for their efforts.
The series will now get a month off before returning at Vila Real in Portugal.

A reduced headcount all round as four AMRs return for second round of Iberian Supercars
Having kicked off their 2025 season with a capacity grid in Portimao back in early April where we saw up to nine Aston Martins compete within the GT4/GTC based series, this weekend’s provisional entry list sees those four Aston’s compete within a thirty-three strong field.
This time, the AMR entry is from the Racar Motorsport team who will field three of their 17A variants within the main GT4 based body of the event whilst the NGT Classic team will be racing its older Vantage GT4 within the GTX class for its solo driver of Migual Ferriera which in turn maybe sporting a new look livery to it.
AMR Drivers Academy drivers Mathieu Martins and Roberto Faria will be back within their Racar #77 car in GT4 Pro whilst the #79 Racar entry has morphed from the former #28 Araujo Competicao entry of Vasco Oliverira and Francisco Carvalho in GT4 Bronze after they swapped service providers between rounds.
The final #707 Racar entry will again be the GT4 Bronze entry for Filipe Videira and Antonio Lopes for this two-race weekend.

Volante Rosso aiming to regain their points momentum in Queensland
Fourteen crews return for this weekend’s third round of the GT World Challenge Australia Series as Queensland Raceway this time plays host to the SRO series.
Having had something of a great start to the season, the Volante Rosso Aston Martin Racing team of Liam Talbot and Declan Fraser has something of a reality check last time out as the series raced both a night and day race from Sydney Motorsport Park.
Having scored a near maximum twenty-eight points at the season opener from Phillip Island, SMP only delivered the #1 AMR Vantage GT3 crew with just seven points over the two, hour long races which has dropped them down to fourth in their Pro-Am class.
Since then, Fraser has just been named within this year’s Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy process which will see him get both remote and personal driver coaching assistance which will hopefully see the #1 car elevate itself within the championship by the end of the weekend and at the halfway stage to the season.

Class of 2025 finally confirmed by Aston Martin Racing
Eleven years in the making has seen Aston Martin Racing encourage and reward a whole plethora of young driver talent starting with Ross Gunn back in 2014 to most recently Jamie Day last season.
This year’s intake sees a broader range of GT4 and GT3 based drivers within this year’s global series and features for the first time one from Australia and sees some from previous years too.
“The Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy is now well proven and established, but it remains unique in its intense focus on driver development and is vital for assessing talent within our partner network. Such is the standard of the programme, former winners such as Ross Gunn, Roman De Angelis and Valentin Hasse Clot all play integral roles in our works driver roster, and we are proud to watch the progress they continue to make year on year” said Adam Carter, Head of Aston Martin Endurance.

Mirage Racing return to the FFSA GT4 with their pair of AMR Vantage GT4 Evos at Dijon-Prenois
It was a similar case for the opening round of the season from Nogaro that saw the previous announced Pro-Am #7 entry of Stanislav Safronov and Alexandr Vaintrub return for another attempt at their class alongside the later announced #5 Am pairing of David Levy and Jodie Sloss.
This weekend’s entry list also possibly sees a one car increase in grid numbers (possibly now up to sixteen cars) for a series now split between just the Pro-Am and Am classes.
Last time out saw the grid take to the track in lovely spring conditions during testing but qualifying and race one were completed in horrendous track conditions as the heavens opened for most of the day. Despite that, both Mirage Racing cars finished P12 overall and P4 in class for the #5 car and P6 overall and in class in race one for the #7 before improving to a P3 overall and in class at the end of race two.
Having already been part of the Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy last season (may still be on their books for this year but that hasn’t yet been confirmed either way by AMR) sees the young Scot Sloss part of the FFSA Drivers Academy process as she now takes to a confirmed full season entry in the series with Mirage and Levy.

Two Astons start well within the GT Cup Championship from Donington Park
Welcoming back both the #82 Feathers Motorsport and the #95 Oselli Motorsport Aston Martin Racing powered teams with their new look driver pairings saw both sets of crews score well within their respective classes over this weekend’s two sprint and one endurance races.
Feathers Motorsport had their new look and much younger pairing of Tom Canning and Archie Clark as the latter stepped into the racing shoes of James Guess less than a couple of weeks ago. Despite his younger years (even in comparison with former AMR Drivers Academy winner, Canning), it was a class GTH podium each time after both of Saturdays two twenty-five-minute sprint races for Clark with a P1 and P2 respectively.
For the more venerable #95 Oselli entry of Matt Eddolls and Sam Maher-Loghnan, it was a same story again for their GTA classed entry as they also replicated that 1-2 finish.
Over to Sundays final 100-minute endurance race, it sadly wasn’t to be a triple header for the #95 crew as they were forced into retirement at the halfway mark, but the #82 Feathers crew did achieve that feat themselves with their P9 overall – P1 in class finish to round off a good weekend for them.
The next round will be from Brands Hatch in six weeks’ time.

New faces and stepping up places for some within AMR this season
Krognes, 34, whose pedigree includes the overall Nordschleife-based Nürburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS) title in 2012, is the official GT3 lap record holder on the fearsome circuit’s NLS layout since 2022. A long-serving driver for Walkenhorst Motorsport, he will also participate in the team’s SP9 Pro class assault on the Nürburgring 24 Hours in June.
“Christian’s performances over the years at the Nürburgring have ensured he has long been someone we’ve kept an eye on, and when the opportunity arose for us to bring him into the AMR family officially, it seemed like an obvious decision to make,” said Aston Martin Racing Director of Performance Gus Beteli. “He is super-fast, gives precise and consistent feedback, works well in a team environment and is a safe pair of hands behind the wheel; all key attributes when competing in the highest levels of endurance racing.”
Krognes, who since switching from karts to car racing has built his career mainly around Nürburgring-based endurance events, described becoming part of the AMR works driver line-up as the “realisation of dream”.
“Joining Aston Martin was always a childhood dream for me,” said Krognes. “Now I’m looking forward to taking on the challenges ahead with my great teammates at Walkenhorst Motorsport behind the wheel of the spectacular Aston Martin Vantage GT3. I’ve always admired the brand’s heritage and I’m very proud to represent such an iconic manufacturer. I also want to take this opportunity to thank AMR for putting its faith in me as well as all the people who have supported me so far on this journey. I can’t wait for the season to start.”
Krognes joins arguably the strongest ever AMR works line-up, one full to the brim with stellar talent. Former FIA World Endurance Championship GT champions Marco Sørensen and Thiim both return with multiple programmes, while Spa 24 Hours winner Mattia Drudi will compete in WEC, GTWC Europe and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Aston Martin Formula One® Team Driver Ambassador Jessica Hawkins will step back into an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 for a second consecutive season as she joins Comtoyou Racing in the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup. Her team-mates in the #11 car will be confirmed at a later date.
Hawkins, who recorded two Silver-Am class podium finishes at Donington Park in her maiden British GT Championship season, said: “I’m thrilled to make my debut in GT World Challenge Europe with Comtoyou Racing this year. Having previous experience with the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 from my time in British GT and working with an established team like Comtoyou, I hope will help heading into the season.
“I’d like to thank Arm and Valvoline for their support in helping me to progress to GTWC Europe, it’s an excellent next step in my racing career and will ultimately give me the opportunity to work towards my ultimate dream of competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I’m looking forward to getting started and racing at some new and familiar circuits.”
The Briton will be surrounded by a wealth of talent in the Belgian partner team – a GTWC Europe Endurance Cup Pro class title contender in 2024 thanks in no small part to Spa 24 Hour winners Drudi, Sørensen and Thiim, who return for another season in the #007 for another crack at championship glory.
The newest AMR Driver Academy winner Jamie Day also steps up to the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup with Comtoyou Racing in 2025 in an Aston Martin Vantage GT3. The 2024 British GT GT4 Silver class champion will run in the GTWC Silver division alongside Belgian duo Kobe Pauwels and Matisse Lismont.
Walkenhorst Motorsport’s Pro line-up of Chaves, Krognes and Pittard will be joined by an equally impressive Silver class crew in the #35 Vantage GT3 that features yet another AMR Academy winner – Romain Leroux, alongside Mateo Villagomez and Oliver Söderström.
The AMR partner team will dovetail its Endurance Cup assault with a Pro class campaign in the Sprint Cup for Chaves and Villagomez.
Aston Martin Head of Endurance Motorsport Adam Carter added: “The strength in depth brought to bear by our partners in the GTWC Europe is a testament to the competitive level and driveability of the Vantage GT3 platform. The car came close to winning the Pro class title in 2024, and I’m confident that the driver line-ups in place across all the divisions are capable of fighting for championship glory in 2025. I would like to extend a warm welcome to Christian, who is an excellent addition to the works roster and we are excited to see what he can achieve with Vantage, and also to congratulate Jessica on her graduation to European GT competition. It’s going to be a fascinating GT season, and at Aston Martin we look forward to this with eager anticipation.”
The GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Official Prologue takes place 10-11 March at Paul Ricard in France, with the opening round of the series taking place at the same venue on 11-13 April.

A late call up for Jamie Day at the Abu Dhabi 6hr
Again, fielding their #77 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 Evo for drivers Setiawan Santoso and brothers Mukong and Tanart Sathienthirakul after their series debut together just the weekend before at the Dubai 24, overnight sickness between Qualifying and race day for Thai TCR Asia racer Mukong meant that a late replacement had to be called in.
However, that driver change put paid to their collective qualifying efforts of Saturday to land them starting Sunday’s race from near last in the grid of fifty-two cars in fortieth position.
At the end of the first of a six-hour race, the #77 car was already up within the top twenty overall before falling back outside of that margin by the time the race had reached its halfway stage. That position remained about the same as the drivers continued to cycle through their available stint lengths before the car was eventually brought home in P21 overall, nineth within their new Pro-Am class but only four laps behind the overall winner.
That and their P6 result in class from Dubai has left the team third overall in class by the end of this mini–Middle East Trophy Series. The team will now redirect their thoughts and attentions to the next four races of the Asian Le Mans Series that will be ran at both Dubai Autodrome and Yas Marina in February.

Jamie Day scoops the coveted AMR Drivers Academy prize for 2024
Building on previous successes within an Aston Martin over the two previous season’s, Day claimed early seasonal success last year as the Norfolk based Forsetti team entered the upward coming GT4 Winter Series (alongside Mikey Porter) where they enjoyed near dominant performances to take the Spanish/Portuguese based series before his main attentions within both the British GT Championship and GT4 European Series had even started.
Hitting that championship at a more of a gallop and despite having swapped between the outgoing 17A variant to the new 2024 Vantage GT4 Evo, Day and Porter ended their season togther with the Silver Class title before Day then touched into the GT3 class with Prosport Racing at the Spa Francorchamps rounds of the ADAC GT Masters Series.
Presently racing with the Belgian Comtoyou Racing team at this weekend’s 24H Series Dubai 24 with one of their new Vantage GT3 Evo’s, part of Day’s reward was a fully supported factory test within the Beechdean AMR Vantage GT3 at Snetterton at the end of last year under the watchful eye of Jonny Adam.
Day takes over from last year’s winner in Mike David Ortmann and follows an illustrious bunch of previous winners in Ross Gunn, Tom Canning, Romain Leroux, Valentin Hasse-Clot and Roman De Angelis.

Two Forsetti Aston Martins prepare for GT Cup opener from Donington Park
Three entries within the topflight GTO class, two within GT3, four within GTC with another nine GT4 based cars making up the more favourable GTH class with two of those being Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4’s run by the Forsetti Motorsport team.
As previously announced by the Snetterton based team, their #9 entry will be made up of karter and GT4 novice Matthew Higgins racing alongside former Ginetta and now upcoming GT4 star Mikey Porter who's already made his mark within both the GT4 Winter Series and British GT Championship.
Both crews will be competing within the teams two older 17A iteration of the AMR Vantage GT4 as all crews look forward to another seven-round season with four races over each weekend.

Ortmann scoops Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy Award for 2023
Following a long line of AMR achievers, Ortmann enjoyed another successful 2023 race programme that saw him successfully defend his ADAC GT4 Germany Series Championship alongside co-driver Hugo Sasse as well as stepping up to the GT3 class within the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie, both with Prosport Racing prepared AMR machinery.
With Ortmann standing head and shoulders above his twenty fellow AMR Academy hopefuls last season, the hunt is already under for eligible candidates for the class of 2024.

A busy week for Aston Martin Racing is southern Europe
Towards the southern tip of Spain had the latest Goodyear tyre test take place around the private Circuito Monteblanco where the yet to be homologated Vantage GT3 ‘Evo’ joined many of the World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series runners taking part within this twenty-four-hour continuous running session.
Home to AMR for many a pre-season #TeamAMR family get together, news from this final tyre test of the year at Monteblanco proved itself to be not so generous with news as the latest iteration of GT3 machinery still awaits its formal homologation certification which can only come after the release of its road going equivalent from Aston Martin Lagonda.
A few hundred miles north also saw the (as yet to homologated AMR Vantage GT4) also pound in the laps, this time around the Circuit De Catalunya near Barcelona as many current and prospective drivers and teams got to see next year’s GT4 for the first time over that two-day test.
Whilst some of those attendees have already committed to the AMR for the first-time next season, many were 17A version runners so were more familiar with the cars fundamentals.
To end of the week, some of those attending GT4 drivers have made their way over to the Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet for what appears to be the final Aston Martin Racing Drivers Academy shootout within the Spirit of Leman AMR Vantage GT3 which is there ahead of this weekend’s Ultimate Cup finale.
With Bullitt Racing hosting that event albeit exactly one year ago today at Barcelona, we will have to wait just a few more days to learn to takes over the crown from last year’s winner Roman Leroux. Whilst the initial nomination list at the start of the year was twenty-four drivers, many have fallen by the wayside along the season and a similar half a dozen shootout squad is again expected this time around.

Lazarus Corse reveal themselves as latest AMR Partner team
Lazarus Corse AMR (nee Team Lazarus), an Italian based team well established within the GT3 ranks of Europe with their previous exploits in many a series with their former Lamborghini and Bentley machinery – now this time, they hope to continue with that fine form with their latest British stead.
Earlier this week posting renders of their new green themed Aston Martin, those picture (as well as those subsequently revealed by the team) give little away in terms of potential series identifiers other than that of Pirelli, but it is most likely that at least one of their racing programmes will be within their domestic Italian GT Championship.
Way back in April, when AMR revealed their latest intake of young drivers within their Academy Driver programme, the team was listed then alongside young driver Giovanni Maschio as competing this season within that domestic series.
Obviously, things may have changed in terms of driver, but the Lazarus/AMR link has now been confirmed. The next round of the Italian GT Series will be at Monza in early September and (if true) will be the first new Vantage GT3 within the series since the Solaris V12 effort back in 2016.
The rest is yet to be confirmed.

Bullitt Racing help out with the AMR Drivers Academy process in Spain
Utilising the services of the locally based Bullitt Racing team and their AMR Vantage GT3 had a number of driver candidates step up from their Vantage GT4 programmes of this year for a GT3 test around the Circuit de Catalunya, all under the watchful eye of AMR factory, Bullitt Racing driver and former Academy winner Valentin Hasse-Clot.
Originally starting out with over twenty young drivers within the process, a number of drivers were unfortunately lost along the way seemingly leaving this top half dozen to undertake this test in Spain to help the panel of judges determine the eventual winner.
Proudly posing alongside the team’s black and red GT3 had both Phil and Ben Dorr (ADAC GT4 Germany), Konstantin Lachenauer (GT4 European), Josh Miller and Jamie Day (British GT) and Romain Leroux (ADAC GT4 Germany) undertake what was for some of them, their first GT3 test.
What comes of this test both in terms of determining the winner of the AMR Drivers Academy process and moving forward into 2023 is obviously yet to be determined.

R-Racings Miller and Day made British GT Championship history today with this mornings class win (UPDATED)
Having swapped from single seaters and tin tops over the winter, this fourth round was only their fifth and sixth GT4 race together, with a team from near Swaffham who had also bridged across from the TOCA package of Ginetta racing at the turn of the year.
The dynamics within the #23 R-Racing car was such as a class podium at the opening round to the season at Oulton Park was just s suggestion of where these two sixteen-year-olds could take this experience and Saturday’s front row and pole position to Sundays race 1 and race 2 starts respectively just backed that up as just more firsts for the team.
Under the watchful eye of driver coach Bradley Ellis, Miller took the start to this morning’s opening hour long race aboard the #23 car but slipped back to P4 in the opening ten minutes. Matt Topham meanwhile, was still battling thoughts of what the thought he didn’t have under his right foot to maintain his midway position during the opening minutes thanks to his poorer Qualifying performance of late the day before but at least their main rivals – the #42 Stellar Audi started race 1 from pit lane due to an issue arriving at the grid.
Running a staggered pit stop window for the GT3’ from the GT4’s, Topham was to pit at his first availability at the halfway mark as Miller carried on for another couple of laps before passing over to Day.
A recovering #42 Audi would get its elbows out going into turn one from Darren Turner as the Aston Martin factory driver edged Sennan Fielding towards the edge of the track but the Silver used the pit exit lane for extra width – whilst contact was made between the two, the #42 would move ahead of the #27 with just minutes remaining.
With the race looking like another victory from the Mustang ahead, an incomplete move from the Team Parker Racing Porsche GT4 going under the bridge and into Brundle saw contact between the two cars made and the Mustang spin out in effective retirement from the lead. That saw Day move immediately up to P2 and he would cross the finishing line behind the behind that car the Porsche would be served a 31 second time penalty in lieu of a drive through penalty for that contact lifting the #23 car into a P1 finishing position.
That result placed Miller and Day into the record books of the Championship as the youngest pairing ever to win a class together and was a result they richly deserved anyway. For Topham and Turner, their struggles during Qualifying and the race would be rewarded with a P3 overall finish in GT4 plus another PR0-Am class win.
With little or no damage to sort in-between races, for race 2 it was the turn of Day to take his first GT4 class pole position start with Turner’s #27 Newbridge car just a few places behind in sixth.
Like race one, the #23 was again slow up to speed with the new Pirelli tyres so it wasn’t long before others were pecking at the tailgate of Day for position. First the #42 Audi and then the #90 BMW passed Day as everything obviously wasn’t well aboard the #23 with Turner then the Toyota soon following suit to drop the pole sitter down to seventh, so it wasn’t a surprise to see the #23 car pit early for its mandatory stop plus 15 second silver cup penalty plus 15 second winners success penalty from earlier – so without being a mathematician, their race was already effective run!!
Looking like a P2 overall was on the cars, the Ford Mustang also showed another appearance to snatch P2 from Topham on the final lap as the tyres under the Aston Martin went from bad to worse but third overall and in front of the #42 Audi was still a good result for the Newbridge crew with another Pro-Am class win as well putting them in the joint overall lead with the #42 Audi crew.
