Like their class rivals from the locally based Prosport Racing have already this week sees the Doer Motorsport team also confirm the driver line up for their three Aston Martin Racing powered entry into next weekends ADAC TotalEnergies 24H Nürburgring.

Having already ran with a mixture of drivers at the preceding Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie, the German based team has today confirmed the following line ups:-

Apart from one, it appeared to be all systems go for the three remaining Aston Martin Racing powered crews at this weekends ADAC N24 Qualifying weekend around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Two cars apiece from both the Prosport Racing and Dorr Motorsport teams all arrived at the circuit ahead of today’s four-hour event but sadly the #28 Prosport Racing AMR Vantage GT3 of Alex Brundle and Mike David Ortmann suffered damage during one of the earlier qualifying sessions that forced the rebranded car to be retired from the event.

 

Not for over two years have The-Advantage reported on the race and Championship winning exploits of Schaller Motorsport and Timo Scheibner with their normally aspirated V12 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 – until today!!

Today we learn that in lieu of a McLaren 720S that they were scheduled to have been racing in, that Dorr Motorsports in Germany announce an entry for drivers Dino Steiner and Phil Dorr in a 2019 specification AMR Vantage GT3 in this weekend’s visit of their national DMV GTC Series at the Hockenheim circuit. This will also be the teams first race with the AMR Vantage GT3 platform!

Good news for lovers of the venerable V12 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 in Germany next season as the 2019 DMV GTC overall Champion, Timo Scheibner will be returning with his racing example to defend his crown next year.

Next season, the German GT series steps up a gear and supports the DTM Series as it travels across Germany visiting race tracks at Hockenheim, Nurburgring, Lausitzring and the Norisring (with a little visit across the border to Monza as well). The series has become an attractive destination for many owner/drivers of former GT3/GT4 machinery no longer in OEM homologation with larger series and operates a very cost effective form of racing together with a fully streamed race meeting.


Announcing his commitment to the Series from the Essen Motorshow this weekend, Scheibner (centre of photo with trophy) confirmed that his Schaller Motorsport prepared AMR will again compete in Class 2 in the Series two - 30 minute and one 60 minute race formats.

The venerable Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 may have been put out to pasture by the factory and its Partner Teams at the end of last season but she certainly hasn't put her 'feet up' in retirement as the car continues to succeed across the world.

The latest success comes today from Germany as Timo Scheibner and his Schaler Motorsport team came away with the overall DMV GTC GT3 crown after a constant run of class podiums throughout the season.


Racing chassis #41, a former TF Sport chassis, a podium finish in todays race from Hockenheim was enough for Scheibner to lift the crown.

Latest Aston Martin Racing recruits, the Virage Group had their two brand new AMR Vantage GT4's out racing for the first time last weekend at the second round of the SRO GT4 Southern Series from the Jarama Circuit to the north of Madrid.

Only having received their two cars from the Prodrive factory just a couple of weeks ago, it appears that after juts two shakedown tests both at Donington and Valencia the team felt ready to make that step in and join the GT4 Southern Series at their first available opportunity.

Meanwhile, the German touring car series DMV GTC were at the Nurburgring for their fourth round of the season so far with its normal three race format over the weekend with a mix of two sprints and an hour long endurance race for their older iteration GT3 runners.



Again running in the series as a solo driver aboard his Schaler Motorsport prepared #12 Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 was Timo Scheibner.

Qualifying P8 overall and P2 in Class, the German went on to claim a P5 overall finish and yet another class win in the first of the two GTC races before starting the second race from P7 overall and first in class. That race he went on to finish P6 overall and another class win.


In the longer Dunlop 60 race, Scheibner again Qualified P9 overall / P1 in class to finish just one place higher to expand his trophy cabinet still further with another class win.

The series returns to Hockenheim for the fifth round in early August.

Whilst the new iteration of the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 is quickly making its mark in the world racing arena, the car that it replaced - the wonderfully sounding V12 Vantage GT3 was out again in two European series this weekend with one dominating its class.

The German based DMV GTC Series were again on their annual pilgrimage to the Red Bull Ring in Austria this weekend with a singe AMR V12 Vantage GT3 entry again from Timo Scheiber and his Schaler Motorsport.


Featuring two - thirty minute races as well as a 60 minute race over the two days, Scheibner and his #13 car dominated the Class 2 proceedings by taking a trio of Class wins by finishing P7, P5 and P7 respectively in each of the three races.


Meanwhile, over at the Salzburgring in Austria owner of both of these two V12 Vantages (Alexander Lienau) was also out again in his ex. Miedecke Motorsport car in the Histo Cup Series. Having last ran in the car in the Aston Martin Masters Endurance Legends at Monza earlier this month where he was able to get some assistance from the Beechdean AMR team parked next door in the paddock (they were racing in the Michelin Le Mans Cup race), this weekend proved to be another learning curve for the retired Austrian as at first fuel pressure issues and then a trip into the gravel on the last lap of race 1 summed up his Saturday.

Then for Sundays events things went a lot better with a P6 Qualifying position amongst the 15 car field to ultimately finish P5 but not too far off the final step of the podium.


A great weekend of racing and we bet that these cars must have sounded marvellous with their V12 screams reverberating off the local mountain sides.

As the World Endurance Championship prepares for its super-season finale at Le Mans in under a months time, another hectic weekend of motor racing beckons for many Aston Martin Racing's customer and Partner teams around the world.

Starting on the far side of the world to where we are presently sitting sees D'Station Racing AMR return for the third round of the Japanese Super GT GT300 series looking to secure their first points of the season after having to retire with damage after the debut rounds at both Okayama and Fuji with their #7 AMR Vantage GT3.


Back into Europe and the International GT Open Series moves to the Hockenheim race track for the first time for their second round of the season after their opener at Paul Ricard.

Optimum Motorsport will be fielding a new driver combination aboard their AMR Vantage GT3 with young gun Ollie Wilkinson now being joined by AMR factory driver and driver coach (to Wilkinson) Darren Turner.

Last time out in France, Wilkinson and Bradley Ellis secured a Pro-Am podium with a P2 finish, only narrowly missing out on the top step after a great debut race in the Aston in lieu of their Audi R8 they raced last year.


Over at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the German based DMV GTC Series have their third round of the season with another triple header of a 60 minute race and two shorter races with their older, no longer main stream homologated group of GT3 race cars.

Timo Scheibner returns with his #13 AMR V12 Vantage GT3 after starting so well with a trio of P4 finishes in round 1 before falling away with technical issues later in round 2.


German based PROsport Performance take their AMR Vantage GT4 race cars over to the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic for the latest round of the 24H Series event after a great P2 finish debut in Mugello before going one better last time out at Spa with a dominant class win.

Their trio of drivers will be looking to maintain the momentum already gained in this latest 12 hour race of the Series.

The second round of the German DMV GTC Series at Hockenheim proved itself to be something of a reality check for the two Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3's after a good showing by the then single AMR car entered at round one.

Timo Scheibner and his Schaler Motorsport team were back with 'their' bronze and black Vantage GT3, the car that had earned them three credible P4 finishes in the opening two rounds of the GTC Series as well as the Dunlop 60 event.


For round two, Scheibner was joined by the guardian of most of the remaining AMR V12 Vantage GT3 fleet in the world including his car - Alex Lienau who was himself joined by BRDC Chairman and historic racer John Grant - long term friend of both Lienau and Scheibner.

Unfortunately race 1 didn't fair too well for the trio of gentlemen racers as both cars failed to finish through various technical issues with race 2 fairing no better for the Englishman - retiring his car after just one lap.


In Fridays sixty minute Dunlop 60 race, Scheiber at least finished top of his Class 2 opponents although the former AMR Brussels Racing of Lienau and Grant only managed three laps. Later, it transpired that the #14 car may have looked the part in all of its Red Bull livery but it was suffering from fundamental handling issues - issues that a novice GT3 racer like Grant would forever be unable to remedy or control from within the car.

Lets hope that this trio can remedy things before the next round of the Series at the Red Bull Ring, Austria towards the end of May.


Further south in Germany, the second round of the VLN Series suffered no better with Saturday morning Qualifying again getting delayed by morning fog around the circuit before the formation lap could then take place ahead of todays four hour race.

Unfortunately for the 181 cars that did Qualify - racing only lasted two laps before the red was first red flagged and then abandoned due to heavy snow falling around the circuit meaning for a very short day at the office for drivers Marco Muller and Jesse Menczer in the AMR Performance Centre Vantage GT8.

The next round of the series is at the end of the month.

Just two weeks after the opening round of the German DMV Motorsport Gran Turismo Touring Car Cup at Hockenheim sees twenty four GT3, GT4 and Cup cars return to the circuit for the second round of the series and Dunlop 60 race this weekend.

Last time out we had just a single Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 entered - that of Timo Scheibner and his Schaller Motorsport team and despite the hectic race schedule and his single driver status, he managed to complete a trio of P4 placements across the weekend in his black and copper coloured #13 car.


For this second round, we see a second V12 Vantage GT3 being entered - that of Alex Lienau and classic car racer John Grant aboard another one of Lienau's Vantage GT3 collection. Both race cars at round two and their available spare chassis (gold and black seen above) that will again be present are all part of Lienau's greater collection with the Lienau/Grant car running a livery that adorned his car back in the day when it was the original chassis #005.

Race damage over the years saw the car rebuilt and reassigned different chassis numbers several times but the Austrian has researched each and every one of his ten plus Vantage GT3's to the 'nth degree. We think that you will recognise its livery!

If over the winter months you have been missing the dulcet tones of an Aston Martin Racing V12 engine screaming its way around a race track in Europe, then you will only have another couple of days to wait before that happens again!

Amongst the twenty three entries into this weekend's opening round of the German DMV GTC (Grand Turismo/Touring Car Cup) at Hockenheim will be one such example of the extremely successful AMR Vantage GT3 in the hands of Shaller Motorsport's Timo Sheibner.


This time running in a striking bronze and black livery, most of us would remember this car as chassis #41 - the car that TF Sports Mark Farmer and Nicki Thiim saw out the end of the 2018 British GT Championship after Farmer all but destroyed his previous car in his opening lap incident at Spa Francorchamps.

This car, and the gold and black 'reserve' car (chassis 24 - a former MP Motorsport car) seen in the background in one of the images above - as well as further V12 Vantage GT3 to be entered into the next round of the DMV GTC Series later April all belong to a one individual who now owns nearly half the available worldwide rolling stock of the car.


With the Shaller Motorsports car entered into both the GTC and Dunlop 60 events, that creates a tight schedule for team with Free Practice and Q1 for GTC as well as Qualifying and the 60 minute Dunlop 60 race on the Friday (tomorrow) with Q2 and both 30 minute DMV GTC races on Saturday.
