Five Aston Martin Racing powered crews at British GT Media Day
A fresh wind and grey skies beckoned the start to the 2026 British GT Championship on Tuesday as twenty-six GT3 and GT4 cars congregated at the home of British Motorsport for their annual Media Day presentation and test around the full Grand Prix circuit of Silverstone.
Whilst Mother Nature may not have been that complementary to start with, the bright livery designs soon warmed the day with the sun soon making an appearance as all the cars and crews enjoyed three test sessions around the circuit as well as a public presentation within the pit lane and press conference during the lunch interlude.
The Beechdean AMR team will be the sole AMR Vantage GT3 powered team within the front running class after the Blackthorn AMR had earlier announced their 2026 racing programme within the European theatre for their driver clientele.
Whilst people still climbing the GT ladder were describing their challenges stepping up from either Ginetta Series or GT4 classes in terms of driver/car interactions, Gunn was the only one suffering a simple issue downgrading between his GTP/Hypercar charge elsewhere to that of quickly familiar Vantage GT3.
AMR Factory driver Darren Turner and Dan Lavery within the #27 Grange Racing by Full Send Racing have their names out there the longest of the AMR powered runners and half already undertaken numerous test sessions around the country. They too had hoped to field two cars, but we understand from the team that they first wanted to get the team/car/crew functioning within the right direction before considering a second car, but we may get to see their black liveried car competing within the GT Cup Championship later this season.
James Townsend takes a progressive step up the racing ladder this season having started within the Ginetta family and this year sees his first competitive racing steps within the GT4 class with his own Townsend Racing team operating under the watchful eye of the more established Fox Motorsport team.
Townsend would suffer from a puncture during the day, but he was able to bring the car home with little to no damage from the flailing rubber.
Orton endured something of a ‘challenging’ GT4 European Series experience last year with the Racing Spirit of Leman team after he and Marc Warren enjoyed a successful year together with the then Forsetti AMR team in 2024.
Competing within the highly competitive silver class, this year will be their chance to see what they are made of.
GBR Stratton Motorsport confirm their first British GT GT4 pairing
Having announced a potential two car AMR Vantage GT4 entry way back at the turn of the year, the pairing of John Hartsorne and Ronan Pearson is the first driver announcement from the partnership between the Graham Brunton Racing and Stratton Motorsport team and comes some weeks after at least one tested with the team at Donington Park.
Pearson meanwhile, comes from the UK TOCA package of race series including the Renault Clio Cup and British Touring Car Championship but this will be his first adventure into GT racing.
“I am absolutely ecstatic to be making my debut in the British GT Championship with GBR Stratton
Motorsport. This change of career path has me incredibly motivated for success and I feel extremely lucky to be working with some great people who have really been in my corner through every step so far. My first season in rear-wheel-drive machinery is going to be a big learner but one that has been in my sights for some time now and this welcome change couldn’t come at a better time with the opportunity that I now have” he said.
From what we understand from British GT, all further announcements between now and Media Day (at Silverstone on the 31st March) will be on short notice.

Townsend Racing AMR fill in their final British GT missing pieces today
The other snippet of British GT Championship related news today comes from the recently announced Townsend Racing powered by Fox Motorsport team again.
Nothing new with that revelation of course after James Twonsend’s new association with Fox Motorsport and Aston Martin Racing within the UK domestic championship was released several weeks ago now.
Despite his younger years, Wheeler comes to the team with four years of British GT racing experience that has rewarded him with several class podiums during that time.

MKH Racing return to the British GT Championship with two different but familiar faces
Last season we welcomed the MKH Racing for their part-entry within the new for 2025 GT4 Endurance Cup element within the overall championship that saw former AMR factory Stuart Hall race alongside Peter Montague.
Previously with Mark Warren and the Forsetti Motorsport team a couple of years ago before moving into the GT4 European Series last season with the Racing Spirit of Leman team, we welcome back Will Orton to the championship as he will race alongside Aston Martin F1 Brand Ambassador and former Beechdean AMR GT3 BGT entrant Jessica Hawkins.
“I can’t wait to get started in British GT, it’s going to be great to be back in the paddock,” she said. “I’m very excited to be teaming up with MKH Racing and Will Orton

A warm welcome to Townsend Racing Powered by Fox Motorsport to the AMR family
Following in the footsteps of both GBR Stratton Motorsport and Full Send Racing who have already confirmed their two AMR Vantage GT4 options this season (alongside the Beechdean AMR Vantage GT3), Townsend Racing Powered by Fox Motorsport will enter a solo new AMR Vantage GT4 into the Championship’s Pro-Am class for both James Townsend and second driver, yet to be confirmed.
Paul McNeilly (Fox Motorsport Team Principal) was equally bullish with this morning’s new saying “It’s fantastic to be back in the British GT Championship – the series that really enabled us to promote our abilities and achievements at an elite level when we first entered more than a decade ago. To be able to reunite with James – one of our most successful drivers –, to create Townsend Racing powered by Fox Motorsport – is equally thrilling. To become an Aston Martin Racing partner team represents another step forward for our team. It’s our target to establish ourselves as the benchmark Aston Martin GT4 team in the UK and with the championship-winning experience we have in the team, we have every intention of doing just that. We can’t wait for Silverstone.”

Racing Spirit of Leman back in the ELMS for 2026 with their Vantage LMGT3
This largest ever entry will see the grids comprising of some twenty-three LMP2 cars, ten LMP3 cars and fourteen GT3 cars within which the Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Racing Vantage LMGT3 will again compete as the sole representative of the brand.
Retaining the same car number for next year, this season saw the #59 car entry being comprised of Clement Mateu, Erwan Bastard and Valentine Hasse-Clot behind the wheel whilst for next season, continuity is largely still there as both Mateu and Hasse-Clot return for a second attempt at the class crown but this time they will be joined by fellow Frenchman and driver of the teams LMP3 entry of this season, Marrius Fossard.
The #59 car is just one of two LMGT3 entries to confirm a full driver line up ahead of the new year that will again start in Barcelona for the Prologue test on the 7th April before the opening race of the new season the following weekend.
From there, it will be visits to Le Castellet, Imola, Spa Francorchamps and Silverstone before the seasonal finale in Portugal in early October.
This season saw the #59 lead the class after their win in Belgium before eventually losing that rich vein of form at the final two rounds to eventually finish third in the championship at the end. 2026 will be a season for the team and crew to correct that anomaly!!
Challengers approaching fast as the Feathers Motorsport AMR team look to hold their class lead this weekend
Originally dominating the GTH class at the start of the season despite Clark’s lack of GT4 competition up until that point, the #82 crew have seen both the #99 and #30 Ginetta GT4 crews start to knock them off the podium over recent rounds to where the #82 crew has seen its class lead reduced to just twenty-nine points going into this round.
Two races again across both Saturday and Sunday will see the ‘Am” side to the driver equation race the opening and closing spring races as a solo driver before the second driver is permitted to compete within the two intervening endurance rounds.
The two Oselli Motorsport Aston Martin Racing GT4 crews of Matt Eddolls and Sam Maher-Lougham should again be in attendance with their green liveried Vantage GT4 Evo whilst Chris Valentine is again being listed as (presumably) a sprint race only participant within the teams older generation GT4 like he did last time out at Silverstone.
Only the #82 car has any class (or indeed overall championship) winning possibilities should the races go well for them at both Donington and at the season finale from Snetterton in about three weeks’ time.

Three Aston's tee up to compete at IMSAs visit to the Brickyard this weekend
Round ten of eleven, this weekend’s six-hour race will again see all four classes return with a total expected entry list of fifty-three GTP, LMP2, GTD Pro and GTD runners.
For the Aston Martin and Aston Martin Racing powered runners, that obviously sees the return of the Heart of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie with drivers Ross Gunn and Roman De Angelis again sharing the driving duties behind the wheel of the #23 car.
Still the debut season for the team’s new GTP/Hypercar project, the banked oval and the tricky infield section of the Brickyard circuit will give us a glimpse of what might have been had the car been ready in time for the season opening at Daytona way back at the start of the year.
For the car itself in its blue IMSA guise, 2025 has been more than encouraging for the team and its partners but has not been seen out racing since its last GTP round from Road America in early August where they secured a season best (so far) P6 finish. Hopefully, that trail of continuous learning and continuous development with the car in-between rounds will see something a bit higher up the ladder at either this or the final round of the year from Petit Le Mans in about four weeks’ time.
We also have the Heart of Racing #27 AMR Vantage GTD of Tom Gamble, Casper Stevenson and Zacharie Robichon back for good measure as the team continue to maintain Stevenson’s GTD Drivers Championship chances after a couple of bullish previous rounds at both Road America and most recently from VIR where the #27 finished P9 and P3 in class respectively.
Stevenson remains fifth within the driver’s championship, just over one hundred points behind the present leaders with two rounds still remaining.
Being another endurance round to the championship, we also see the return of the #19 Van Der Steur AMR Vantage GTD, but with a slight change to their usual driver line up after it became clear last weekend at Silverstone’s Le Mans Cup race that all was not well with the young Rory Van Der Stuer.
Officially listing an injury sustained from a mountain bike accident sees the team’s namesake again skip a race with his AMR powered machinery leaving team regulars Valentin Hasse-Clot and Anthony McIntosh to lead the way alongside a deputising Eduardo Barrichello.
Obviously, a very accomplished trio of drivers having seen them scoop a LMGT3 class P3 podium finish at the World Endurance Championship’s visit to Brazil a couple of months ago.
Track action begins on Friday with Free Practice One before rotating through Free Practice Two and Qualifying on Saturday before the green flag to the race at 11:40hrs local on Sunday.

Silverstone ELMS drama sets up a Portimao Decider for the Racing Spirit of Leman team in LMGT3
Six years in the making, a massive and knowledgeable crowd attended the return of the ACO rules series back to the Northamptonshire circuit as the capacity grid of forty-four LMP2, LMP3 and LMGT3 machinery prepared themselves for what was already prepared to be a weather affected race.
The #59 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Racing Vantage of Clement Mateu, Erwan Bastard and Valentin Hasse-Clot had the ‘luxury’ of a very slender points lead coming into this race thanks to their class win last time out at Spa Francorchamps but a class wide balance of performance tweak by the series plus their own success ballast (from Spa) would place a whole new characteristic upon their car within their thirteen strong entry.
Early sessions went well for the #59 crew as they cycled through their Free Practice 1, Bronze driver test and Free Practice 2 sessions before moving into their class qualifying session for which Mateu would again be the sole participant. Despite his best of efforts, his time of 2:13:712 was only good enough for P4 in class which much consternation placed towards the front nearside wheel of the car after the session.
Sunday’s race start had already been moved forward an hour in the hope of missing (at least some) of the forecasted heavy rainfall but the race didn’t exactly get off to the best of starts (literally) as issues for a number of prototype cars on the opening laps forced it into a Full Course Yellow situation.
An early gain for Mateu before that had seen him move up to third as the race then entered nearly fifteen minutes of caution before eventually going back to green but before anyone could become too settled, one of the LMGT3 runners was knocked into a spin coming onto the National Pit Straight that saw the Mercedes hit hard into the crash barrier – Safety Car.
Fortunately, that driver appeared none the worse, but the resulting barrier damage did force what became the first of three red flags within the race. Getting back to green also saw the time lost during those repairs added back to the race clock at the end but even before Mateu could do too much about anything, the second red flag situation accord when three prototypes collected each other along the Hanger Straight.
Almost halfway through the original time before the race went back again to green after another Safety Car restart saw Mateu end his double stint still in third, to hand over to Bastard who would re-emerge in seventh.
Halfway through his stint and a half, however, saw the first signs of rain falling upon the Grand Prix circuit of Silverstone – something that would slowly but steadily intensify as the race clock continued to run, forcing all to eventually turn to full wet tyres.
Bastard’s stint would take the #59 car into the final hour of this four-hour race before AMR factory driver Hasse-Clot could get his first LMGT3 racing laps at the circuit at the end of his driver coaching duties beforehand.
With track conditions well against them, and without taking too much risk for the car on track, the #59 crew had to settle for a (disappointing for them) P6 finish in class that still earned them valuable championship points before the series heads to Portugal next month. The class results from Silverstone sees the #59 crew drop down to second, twelve points behind the new #50 Ferrari powered crew going into next month’s season decider.
That race will obviously be more than interesting to watch!
A racing disaster for the Code Racing Development crew in Le Man Cup Silverstone debut
Despite starting the weekend saw the #11 car of Philipp Sager and Valentin Hasse-Clot looking racey within the earlier sessions with the venerable Austrian racer the first to fit slicks within his own bronze driver session on Friday.
Qualifying eventually saw Sager hold the top position in class within their fifteen-minute session to eventually lose out to a last lap dash from the Iron Dames Porsche to apparently claim a P2 starting position to yesterday’s race.
However, the post session scrutineering found the car to be outside of its homologation in terms of ride height so that all of its lap times within Qualifying deleted to leave the #11 car starting from the rear of the forty-three strong grid.
With Hasse-Clot going against the grain and starting the race for the team, that saw the #11 car quickly move up to second in class to then pit for a strategic driver change just as a Full Course Yellow came into effect on track at the end of twenty minutes of racing.
During that stop, the car was also noted to have had a wheel change completed whilst it was being refuelled for which the car would receive two ten second penalties before failing to complete those penalties correctly for which they were penalised with a further twenty second penalty apiece!
From that point on, the penultimate round to the season became just a formality as Sager eventually swapped out again with Hasse-Clot for the Frenchman to complete his mandatory forty-five-minute minimum drive time to end the day P6 and last in class togther with any remaining championship aspirations.
If that wasn't enough, there was to be further salt rubbed into the wounds as Sager later failed to attend a hearing with the race Stewards for which Sager would receive a financial penalty suspended until the end of the season that concludes in Portimao in a month’s time.
Good to be back at Silverstone with ELMS and the LMC newcomers
The debut of the Michelin Le Mans Cup Series was, however, first out on track the French Code Racing Development team again represented the Aston Martin Racing marque with their #11 with Philipp Sager being joined this time around by Valentin Hasse-Clot as the absence of regular co-driver Rory Van Der Steur was explained to us (a private matter unfortunately).
The cars of the European Le Mans Series were out next with another solo runner again from the Aston Martin Racing stable – this time from the Racing Spirit of Leman team and their #59 car Vantage LMGT3 of Clement Mateu, Erwan Bastard and Valentin Hasse-Clot.
Despite the ever-present threat of rain, the wet stuff did at least keep away from the circuit until the very least minutes of the ELMS FP1 session, before hammering down for another fifteen or twenty minutes or so before clearing out again for a lovely (although blustery) afternoon. The #59 car would finish that session sixth fastest in class.
The two bronze driver only tests next and Sager had to go out on wets first to start that session but quickly went onto slicks before the halfway stage. A few more FCY’s for cars stranded here and there left a one or two lap dash to the flag where all bar four cars set their fastest laps of the session as the track continued to dry.
To conclude another glorious return to the circuit was the second and final Free Practice session of the Le Mans Cup Series where Sager (again) went out solo as he and his team privately hoped for rain in tomorrow’s race to help the Austrian driver along.
Tomorrows timetable sees the ELMS cars run their second Free Practice session of the weekend ahead of Le Mans Cup Qualifying and then ELMS Qualifying before the Le Mans Cup crews finally get down to racing their penultimate race of the season at 16:45hrs local.
The question about tomorrow is again about the weather whilst in Sunday, it’s hardly a questions at all!!
