Having sportingly allowed V8 Racing International to come to a business arrangement that allowed Las Moras Racing to compete at the European GT4/British GT double header at Spa last weekend,  Mathol Racing are themselves back in action with the same cars at the VLN this weekend.

Both SP10 Class V8 Vantage GT4 cars entered under the Avia racing and StadAvita Racing banners have been shipped back from Belgium and finely fettled before the fun begins tomorrow at the fifth round of the VLN Series at the infamous Nordschleife circuit.


That business arrangement with V8 racing Interantional came about after a serious fire at the Dutch teams workshops destroyed numerous racing cars including both of Las Moras Racing Chevrolet Camaro's and BMW M3 GT4's. Last weekend saw both Aston Martins, complete with Mathol Racing's VLN decals race alongside their counterparts in the European GT4 Series as well as the British GT series as a stop gap measure.

Despite a promising start for both Las Moras cars in early Free Practice and incident with the #104 Beelen/Nooren car (the StadAvita car) lead the car not be be started in the race due to an unrepairable brake issue and the #105 Huisman/Braams car (Avia Racing car) showed great promise of a good result before a technical issue forced its retirement just 20minutes before the end of the race.
The European GT4 Series side of the Spa double header was incidentally won by another Aston Martin V8 Vantage, that of Street Art Racing with Damien Dupont and Jerome Demay behind the wheel. Despite a timing issue that saw the car be accredited with an extra lap to what they had actually completed that was their first victory within the European series and was also their first race with their brand new 2016 specification car which the team didn't even have long enough to dress it with their customary street art wrap (hence the team name) so congratulations to them.


Speaking with Las Moras Racing after the Spa event they now have until Spetember before the next round of that series before which they will need to decide upon replacement chassis for the lost cars but one thing is for sure - they were pleasantly impressed by the V8 Vantage GT4.

Four weeks after the circuits headline ADAC Zurich 24h event, a very different looking grid of cars return to the Nordschleife circuit this weekend for the fourth round of the VLN Series.

Although supporting a very similar entry level of cars to that of the 24H, this weekends 150+ VLN entry will mainly be made up from the production based classes rather than the top end sports car classes, with that just two Aston Martin entries in the SP10 class (SRO's GT4 equivalent). They are the full season VLN entrants - Avia Racing and StadAvita Racing.


With both cars having entered last months 24H Avia Racing were forced to retire their car during the night due to accident damage but the StadAvita car did end the race as class winners.

Unfortunately, we will not be seeing the Aston Martin Vantage GT8 that dominated its class during the 24H before accident damage forced its retirement in Germany at least, but for those at Goodwood's Festival of Speed they shall see it there this weekend!!
