Despite everything, their best DTM performance to date from the Comtoyou Racing team this weekend
Amongst the twenty-four single driver GT3 entries were of course the two Comtoyou Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3’s of Gilles Magnus (#7) and Nicolas Baert (#8) as both looked to capitalise upon apparent pace found within their cars at the previous round at the improvised street circuit layout of the Norisring.
Sadly, that pace wasn’t to be seen within either Q1 or race one of the weekend at least as the best that Magnus could offer would be a P16 starting position as opposed to Baert’s P24.
The opening laps to race one would be its usually chaotic self with multiple cars making contact with one another leaving fluid down all around the circuit with both Aston drivers busy avoiding all of the ensuing carnage and resulting debris, forcing an early red flag to the proceedings.
Finally back to racing, and despite four cars already being out, both the #7 and #8 cars circulated at the rear of the pack for the remainder of the race as they rounded off another disappointing P16 and P17 finishes respectively.
Sunday was then a slightly different story as overnight Balance of Performance changes had seen the Vantage GT3 Evo a positive weight change and this appeared to give Magnus the impetus that he craved to secure his best qualifying result to date in P3 whilst Baert had himself improved to P15.
Finally mixing it with the ‘big boys’ of the series, Magnus was at times able to move up the order, just off the podium in P4 before ultimately finishing in seventh for still his best result of the season so far. Baert failed to finish.
The series now moves onto the Sachsenring at the end of August.

Success in Germany for two AMR powered teams in two differing series
For the Doer Motorsport team, it was the simple case of two six-hour long Nurburgring Langstrechen Serie events around the infamous Nordschleife with their driver line up of brothers Ben and Phil Dorr alongside that of Nicki Thiim aboard their #24 AMR Vantage GT3 whilst for the Prosport Racing team – it was to be a double car effort within the same NLS 6 and NLS 7 events plus a four-car effort in the latest round of the ADAC GT4 Germany Series.
Whilst they were doing that, the Prosport Racing’s #17 Vantage GT3 crew of Maxime Dumarey, Christoph Breuer and Marek Bockmann sadly failed to finish Saturdays race thanks to a last lap puncture but did take an SP9 Pro-Am class win to make up for it on Sunday. That would be in addition to there #176 SP10 entry of Guido Dumarey, Rudi Adams and Michael Hess completing a near double with a P3 and P4 finish in class in their Vantage GT4.
Not to be left out of the podium fun, some of their teammates competing within the fifth round of the ADAC GT4 Germany Series from the Sachensring also had something to cheer as the #1 crew of Mike David Ortmann and Hugo Sasse claimed their first double race win of the season to healthily increase their championship lead going into the final round of the season at the Hockenheimring at the end of October.
Their three further crews also competing all managed to finish both hour-long races at the weekend with the #19 crew of Leon Erger and Raphael Rennhofer finishing P11 in race 1 and P16 in race 2 alongside Fabienne Wohlwend/Celia Martin and Yevgen Sokolovskiy/Damian Surzyshyn who would finish P18/P12 and P22/P19 respectively.

Nicki Thiim around the Nordschliefe not once but twice with Doer Motorsport
Usually kept apart from one another, this weekend’s double header will comprise of an individual six-hour round over each of Saturday and Sunday and goes to make up the Red Bull 12hr Nurburgring event.
The locally based Prosport Racing team are again in attendance, making for a very busy weekend for them with two of their Aston Martin Racing stock competing within what will still be NLS 6 and NLS 7 but that is in addition to their four-car strong ADAC GT4 Germany commitment this weekend at the Sachensring.
No real surprises with these guys as the #17 SP9 (GT3) Pro-Am entry is made up of Maxime Dumarey, Christoph Breuer and Marek Bockmann whilst their #176 SP10 (GT4) entry will again be for Guido Dumarey, Rudi Adams and Michael Hess.
The real news comes unsurprisingly from the Doer Motorsport team as they again get their #24 SP9 Pro class Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 out for brothers Phil and Ben Dorr for the first time since their twenty-four efforts around the circuit earlier this year, but this time the guiding role will not come in the form of factory driver Darren Turner – it will this time be Nicki Thiim!! The team have elected to forgo their ADAC GT4 Germany Series commitments to develop the brothers further into GT3 based racing.
All three crews are listed the same for each of NLS 6 and NLS 7 events.

Four of Prosport Racings finest return for penultimate round of the ADAC GT4 Germany Series from the Sachensing
Continuing the theme that was raised last time out from the Lausitzring, we again see just the quartet of Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4’s from the Prosport Racing team as the Doer Motorsport team will indeed by busy elsewhere with the double header of rounds six and seven of the NLS Series around the Nordschliefe.
Last time out for Christoph Essers team wasn’t exactly smooth but did at least see their defending champions, Mike David Ortmann and Higo Sasse get back up to speed in the series following a slight BoP adjustment for them. Whilst a P3 start in race one was converted into a P4 finish for the crew on Saturday, a lowly P11 start on Sunday did see them stand back upon the podium after a worthy P3 finish.
Those results saw the #1 crew go back to the top of the overall championship whilst holding a slender lead over the BMW M4 GT4 crew of Denis Bulatov and former AMR series racer, Simon Connor Primm and also some other teams sitting out this weekend's event in protest of their own BoP situation!

Within the rest of the team, the #19 crew of Leon Erger and Raphael Rennhofer didn’t have quite the same touch as their debut round at the Nurburgring with a P14 and a DNF over the two races but there was a better performance from their two lady racers within the #13 car as Fabienne Wohlwend and Celia Martin finished P22 and P19 – their best results to date.
The fourth #48 car of Yevgen Sokolovskiy and Damon Surzyshyn meanwhile finished a very credible P19 after race one but faced a very early exit with damage in Race 2 to lose further ground within their Trophy Class battle.

Hard graft for Prosport Racing as BoP changes again blight their ADAC GT4 Germany efforts
Having lost the Doer Motorsport team from championship contention since the last round at the Nurburgring, AMR honours have been left to the Christoph Esser lead team and principally their #1 crew of reigning champions Mike David Ortmann and Hugo Sasse.
Re-stablishing themselves at the top of the overall leader board thanks to two podium finishes at the Nurburgring, another negative Balance of Performance adjustment towards the Aston Martin would see all four cars struggle for every inch of progress.
The #1 car was again the most resourceful with what they had with Sasse qualifying their car in third ahead of Saturday’s start. That would later transpire into a just off the podium P4 finish whilst the #48 Trophy class car of Yevgen Sokolovskiy and Daman Surzyshyn also claimed another class podium for their efforts too.
In Sunday’s concluding race of the weekend, it very nearly all went wrong for the team as Raphael Rennhofer got turned around into the fact turn one which resulted in their first DNF of the season so far before the #48 also became involved on an incident of their own on the restart which saw Sokolovskiy retire the car off track after contact.
The all-lady crew of the green #13 car saw Celia Martin and Fabienne Wohlwend their best weekend of the series so far finishing P22 and P19 over the two races respectively.
Despite all of this and a lowly qualifying position for the #1 car, the young duo were able to progress through the ranks to claim third overall by race end to retain the championship lead by now just six points as the series moves onto the Sachensring later in September.

Debut glory for one AMR - important Championship points for another in ADAC GT4 Germany
Whilst the full season entrant from the Doer Motorsport team had more to gain Championship wise, it was the series debuting #18 PROsport Racing AMR of Mike David-Ortmann and Hugo Sasse who stole the headlines as each driver in that car was running a duel GT4 and GT Masters car at the meeting.
Making their intentions known at the start, the #18 PROsport car featured at the top during both Free Practice sessions, so it wasn’t a complete surprise for Sasse to place their car on pole position for Saturday’s first hour long race.
With over eighty days away from racing after an enforced summer break following the catastrophic flooding in central Europe in August, it was clear that many had missed their racing and had become a little rusty as the grid took the first rolling start of the weekend.
Retaining the lead for the first few laps, everything looked comfortable for Sasse but an error at turn 8 forced him to go through the gravel trap letting the #13 Zakspeed Mercedes of Championship hopefuls Teo Nouet and Jan Marschalkowski thorough for the lead. Unbeknown to many, the race start was already under investigation for many and a resulting ‘penalty lane’ punishment was awarded to the #13 Zakspeed and #69 Phil Dorr AMR (amongst many others) which allowed Sasse to recover the lead but their own infraction didn’t inhibit the #69 car too much either who come out in P5 overall.
After the pit stops, the #18 car with David-Ortmann behind the wheel was able to cruise away as those behind argued for position for an almost lights to flag debut race win. Andreas Wirth (now in the #69 AMR) was one of those who capitalised on the battles up front to be able to catch and then join them as the hour counted down. On the final lap, Wirth was even able to snatch P3 overall briefly before a similar error to Sasse through the gravel in the opening laps denied them another overall podium as they finished P4 overall.
Sundays second race was a different affair as cooler morning temperatures made an impact on Qualifying times with the #18 starting race 2 in sixth and the #69 car in P9.
Race pace was soon brought back down with a Safety Car after a Porsche had a heavy off with the tyre wall on the outside of the downhill turn 6 in the opening laps. With the two Astons still P5 and P9 respectively, it was fortunate for David-Ortmann to have taken his penalty lap for a false start before the Safety Car otherwise their race would have been ruined before it had begun.
Once the race got back to green, it soon became apparent that neither Aston was going to progress forward – one for the cooler temperatures and two because of their apparent lack of power meant that they simply couldn’t get through the traffic built up again by the earlier Safety Car.
Even pitting early didn’t change their predicament as both David-Ortmann and Wirth handed their cars over to Sasse and Dorr. Having conserved their tyres for the longest, Dorr was able to catch and pass a further struggling Sasse to first claim P7 from them before moving up to P5 overall at the chequered flag.
For the Doer team, these two results solidified their Junior Class title hopes for Dorr with a P3 and P2 in the junior Class for the #69 AMR driver but also in the overall Championship (although a large number of points down to the existing leaders) as the series moves onto its penultimate round at Hockenheim in three week’s time.

PROsport's AMR Vantage GT4 makes two for this weekends ADAC GT4 Germany's visit to the Sachensring
The provisional entry lists for this weekend’s ADAC GT Masters and GT4 Germany Series from the Sachensring are finally out and both show just the one Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 entry from the PROsport Racing team within the GT4 Germany entry and not the multiple entries across the two series as first hoped.
Having been crossed by the DTM Trophy Series officials more times than the team preferred, the PROsport Racing team announced their departure from that series soon after the shenanigans at the Red Bull Ring in early September.
It was then announced that the team would be moving to the ADAC supported GT4 Germany Series with up to two AMR Vantage GT4 cars as well as a possible AMR GT3 entry into the bigger ADAC GT Masters Series.
What has now been confirmed by the series is now just a solo AMR Vantage GT4 entry for drivers Mike David-Ortmann who will be supported in this series by Hugo Sasse before both then go and race (with others) within the GT Masters Series in different teams and cars.
They join the full season ADAC GT4 Germany entry from the Doer Motorsport team and their drivers Phil Dorr and Andreas Wirth aboard their #69 car. These guys haven’t raced in the series since Zandvoort in early July where they secured a P3 class finish in race two before the next scheduled round at the Nurburgring in early August was postponed due to the extensive flooding in central Europe. For their Dutch result, the #69 crew carry a 5kg weight penalty for race one this weekend.
Championship wise, the #69 crew sit P5 in the overall stakes with 63 points against the leaders 129 but in the Junior Class, Dorr sits in P4 on 88 points against the leaders 110.5 with two more rounds to go after this weekend.
As far as the potential GT3 entry goes, the team were putting it out there that their second DTM Trophy drivers, Tim Heinemann would be joining up with Nicki Thiim for this weekend’s events at the Sachensring in the remaining AMR Vantage GT3 chassis. That is clearly now not the case!
