Young Driver AMR : Enge's first test

Following weeks of preparation Young Driver AMR team ran its new Aston Martin DBR9 cars for the first time at the first official FIA GT1 World test held at Paul Ricard Circuit in France on 21/22 February. In the test session, participated also Czech driver Tomas Enge who has represented Young Driver AMR team with his team mate Darren Turner.
During the test, there have been changing conditions at Paul Ricard Circuit. Sunny periods turned into rainy ones, and due to these conditions Tomas Enge wasn’t able to drive the car on Monday 22nd February. Much better wasn’t even the Sunday test. According to conditions Tomas Enge ran only eight laps. However, he could realize how the changes on the car influenced its handling.
“Changes made on cars should slow down the GT1 cars. Most of the changes are in aerodynamics. The rear spoiler is smaller, and the car is 20 cm taller. Wooden board, which is use for example on F1 single-seaters, was added on the GT1 car. The car is now about 80 kg heavier. You feel all these changes immediately. In eight laps, which I drove the car, I tried to search the car’s limits,” said Tomas Enge after his first test of GT1 car.
“I like Aston Martin DBR9. I have always liked it, and the new technical rules couldn’t change it. But until the full-value test it is too early to perceive the car. Another test will be held already this week [Wednesday and Thursday 24/25 February] at Nogaro,” added Tomas Enge.
