Aston Martin driver Stefan Mücke will start with DBR9 in FIA GT1 World Championship for the “Young Driver AMR” team – “I am aiming for podium places”

German Stefan Mücke from Berlin is going to start in the new FIA GT1 World Championship the coming season. The 28 year old is Aston Martin factory driver the third year in a row. Last year he completed with his greatest success so far when he won the Le Mans Series (LMS). The former DTM driver will start in an Aston Martin DBR9 for the team Young Driver AMR (Paderborn). He will share the cockpit of the GT1 racing car (number 008) with his five year younger team mate Christoffer Nygaard from Denmark. The second car of the team will be occupied by the British driver Darren Turner and the Czech Tomas Enge.

In 2007, the Berliner changed to the FIA GT Championship after he was Mercedes driver for the DTM (German Touring Car Masters) for 5 years. „I am really looking forward to the coming season, the challenge and certainly the come back to the GT1 scene”, said Stefan Mücke. When he started his sportscar career in 2007 he brought home his first victory in a Lamborghini. Moreover, he joined the podium with a second place as well. “Now, this series has become a world championship this will definitely be an exciting series with 24 cars altogether; cars driven by professional drivers only”, said the Berliner. “I am aiming for as many podiums as possible.” The GT1 World season starts middle of April at the United Arab Emirates and goes on for ten racing weekends till the beginning of December. All in all there will be 10 events with 20 races around the globe.

Stefan’s new car, which is adjusted to the championship regulations, is not that new for him. “Twice I drove an Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 with the 600 hp strong V12 engine with 6 litre cc, once in 2008 at a race in Czech Republic and last year at a test. This car is well-tested with victories at 24 hour Le Mans races in his class”, explained the Berliner. Even the engine is well known to Stefan as the closed LMP1 has nearly the same. With the LMP1 he was very successful in 2009.

During the five LMS races, Stefan Mücke was on the podium five times – twice on the very top, once with a second place and twice with third place. Being the best German driver, he drove the best placed petrol engine car when finishing with place four at the 24 hour races of Le Mans. At his première of the Asian Le Mans Series at Japan, Stefan Mücke managed to bring home one victory and to finish in third. Even in FIA GT Championship the Berlin driver was successful in 2009. He finished in third at Oschersleben with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage in GT2-class.

Stefan Mücke celebrated his first success in 1998 when he was overall winner of BMW Formula ADAC Championship plus in 2001 as runner-up champion of the International German Formula-3-Championship. After the DTM time (2002 till 2006) he went into the sports car scene (FIA GT Championship/first victory in a Lamborghini). Furthermore, the same year he became the first and so far only Berlin driver at the 24 hour races of Le Mans who was fastest rookie and who drove the fastest lap of all petrol engine cars (place eight in overall) like in 2008 (ninth in overall standings). Also in 2008, Stefan Mücke was Czech Endurance Champion in his former DTM-Mercedes.
