Young Driver AMR: Fourth on the grid for 1000km of Spa

Young Driver AMR will start from fourth position in the GT1-class for the 1000k of Spa-Francorchamps. “Young Driver” Christoffer Nygaard handled driving duties in the Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin DBR9 during the qualifying session. Nygaard shares the car with Stefan Mücke (D) and Tomas Enge (CZ) in 1000km race. The German Team prepares at Spa for the 24h of Le Mans (12./13. June), in which Young Driver AMR will take part as the sole Aston Martin-Team in the GT1-class.
The qualifying wasn’t trouble free for the Young Driver AMR team. Due to an engine sensor change, Nygaard joined the qualifying session very late. “Just when I went out, a red flag came out, and the qualifying was halted. During that time my tires lost temperature, and when I finally went out, I had a small off due to m cold tires. The race is really long, so fourth starting position is not too bad. We expect to have a good fight with our GT1 competitors in the race.”
The 1000km of Spa is first race for Young Driver AMR in the Le Mans Series and thus a good practise, as the race is held under the same rules as the legendary 24h of Le Mans. “Our main goal is to get used the ACO rules, which will also be used for the 24h of Le Mans”, Tomas Enge said after. “There are some differences, especially in the pit stops. So far we are very satisfied with the car, it’s a really good weekend.”
Stefan Mücke is confident for the 1000km race on Sunday: “We expect some showers early in the race, but our forecast says that most of the race will be dry. We found a good set-up this morning, which will help u a lot with the tire wear. I’m a racing driver, so I want to win, but our focus is to prepare for Le Mans.”
Young Driver AMR team boss Hardy Fischer was pleased with results in the free practise and qualifying session so far: “Christoffer could only start very late into qualifying session, so fourth place is a great result. We know that we will have the pace to run up front in the race. I wouldn’t mind to win tomorrow’s race!”
