Monza challenge for Oman Racing Team as Blancpain Endurance Series gets underway
The Oman Racing Team heads to Monza’s world famous Autodromo Nazionale circuit this week in preparation for the opening round of the 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series (April 12).
Sunday’s three hour opening race is set to deliver an impressive spectacle with over 60 cars from the world’s most prestigious marques predicted to line up on the grid. Competition in the Pro Cup class is expected to beespecially fierce with 23 of Europe’s finest factory drivers and teams competing alongside the Motorbase-run #44 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3.
David Bartrum’s Aston Martin Racing squad arrives in Italy in high spirits straight off the back of celebrating its first race win of the season during round one of the British GT Championship over the Easter weekend (April 4-6) and the Motorbase Team Boss is hopeful of carrying that momentum into the three hour contest.
“I’m really looking forward to Monza this weekend. I think the chance to work with the three drivers we’ve got in Blancpain this year should start to show the true pace of the car and the class of Motorbase as an International team.
“Obviously last year we had our dalliance in the Blancpain and we didn’t have the greatest of times, it was quite hard. We had a big smash at Spa, some bad luck at Monza with an electrical problem and then contact at the Nurburgring so the five rounds of Blancpain feels like unfinished business.”
The Oman Racing Team Principal recently confirmed his new look line up for the squad’s 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series campaign, with Aston Martin Racing works driver Jonny Adam joining British GT pairing Ahmad Al Harthy and Daniel Lloyd in the Pro Cup class.
“We have a fantastic line up this season; Jonny Adam is an Aston Martin works driver and the perfect fit alongside Dan and Ahmad who are both really good young, hungry drivers. I can’t wait to see how they compete on a level playing field without any penalties and for us to see where we really are against our counterparts.”
Bartrum added; “That’s the challenge for me, to go into Europe and spread the Motorbase name and see where we go from there.”
