Double-Header Weekend in the Motor City for TRG-AMR

Friday, May 29, 2015

TRG-AMR is heading back to the Motor City, this time with Christina Nielsen piloting a pair of potent Royal Purple|ORION|LaSalle|PassTime USA Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 racing machines around the 2.36 mile temporary street circuit. Nielsen, running in both the IMSA TUDOR GTD and Pirelli World Challenge GTA categories, is set for a busy weekend, the first true doubleheader of the season. The two series will spend the weekend contesting three separate races, with the first two on Saturday followed by the final race on Sunday afternoon. The two sportscar series are running in conjunction with the Verizon IndyCar series this weekend, providing an amazing amount of great racing for the fans and drivers alike.

The 14-turn temporary street circuit has become a staple across multiple North American racing series, hosting a number of series including Formula 1, CART over the past few decades. The tight turns and unforgiving barriers are accentuated by the historic backdrop of the Motor City’s famous skyline. TRG-AMR and Nielsen hope to capitalize on the extra track time and bring home a strong finish for Aston Martin and the team. A season-best of 2nd at Sebring in IMSA TUDOR competition and 3rd at Circuit of the Americas in Pirelli World Challenge, Nielsen and team are ready and able to climb to the top step of the podium for the first time in 2015.

The coming race at Detroit marks the fourth round of the IMSA TUDOR GTD season and the sixth round of Pirelli World Challenge GTA racing. When the final races of May are in the rear-view mirror, the team is embarking on one the most complex endeavours to date: moving eight cars, a transporter, and over 30 personnel to Le Mans, France for the Le Mans Festival Race with Aston Martin as the featured marque. There are opportunities to drive the Aston Martin racecars, as well as VIP Hospitality options and other bucket-list activities at this hugely famous race -
More information on that can be found here.

TRG-AMR Team Driver Christina Nielsen: “I am glad to be going back to another street circuit, this time for three races in one weekend! I’ve never driven at Belle Isle before, so I’ve been working extra hard on learning the track with video and simulator time, as well as my continued fitness and working with the team. I am also looking forward to heading to Le Mans for the Festival Race and driving that amazing track, as well as spending some time with my Dad (who drove for TRG at the 2004 24 Hours of Le Mans) watching the 24 hour race.”

TRG-AMR CEO Kevin Buckler: "What a great time to be heading to the Motor City. With everything going on and the big resurgence in Detroit along with a true “doubleheader” racing weekend for us, this is going to be big. We have a jam packed schedule with practices and three separate races in two separate paddocks and we have lovely evening events booked every night. Christina and James have been working very hard preparing for this race with video, data, fitness, etc. - they are ready! After the strong performances so far and running up in the points in IMSA, everybody is eager to get on the track and get racing. Christina will do her best to try and finish in front of James in World Challenge, too! After this - onto Le Mans where I’ll be driving one the V12 GT3s around the famous track - stay tuned!”
