Howard and Griffin win GTE class for Beechdean AMR at Le Mans Festival Race

Monday, June 15, 2015

Beechdean AMR have returned from a great weekend at Le Mans with Aston Martin Racing where they took part in the Festival Race prior to Le Mans 24-Hour. It was a successful weekend with team owner, Andrew Howard and Liam Griffin winning their class with the brand new Beechdean GTE V8 Vantage.

After qualifying 1st in GT2 class and 7th overall, Howard and Griffin both drove the Aston Martin GTE well considering it was the first time the car had been raced. A great achievement with the Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe, being one of the longest circuits in the world and home to the world’s most famous endurance event, the 24-Hour race which Beechdean AMR aspire to compete in next year with the GTE car.

Unfortunately, after a competitor’s Aston Martin Vantage GT4 car crash, resulting in essential repairs to the safety barrier, the Festival race had to finish under the safety car and was finally red flagged.

Beechdean AMR GT3 drivers, Phil Dryburgh and John Gaw, finished 2nd in class and 4th overall, and Paul Hollywood and David Richards, in GT4 finished 10th in class.

Paul Hollywood drove well in Beechdean’s GT4 Vantage, taking on the Le Mans circuit after minimal practice time before qualifying due to Great British Bake off commitments.

All of the drivers and the cars performed well considering the circumstances of the race, and the atmosphere was fantastic, with the race stadium fitting 100,000 up to people. Beechdean AMR are preparing for and looking forward to next year at Le Mans.

Andrew Howard: ‘I’m pleased with our first experience in the GTE Vantage and it’s given an insight into what is needed for the main event at Le Mans next year. A big thanks to Aston Martin Racing for their hospitality over the weekend’
