WEC 2016 Entries confirmed

Friday, February 05, 2016

Following todays European Le Mans Series briefing came the confirmation of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship that also kicks of its season at season in April.

During the pre-ample to the announcements Pierre Fillon set out the ACO's stall to embrace the series  strength, stability and success within the worlds racing calendar with this years 'Magique - Mythique - Unique' Le Mans 24H poster series.

Getting back to the WEC's full season entries, seven GTE Pro and six GTE Am cars were confirmed this afternoon and as expected, a drop in Aston Martin Racings entries (compared to 2015) with just two cars in Pro and a single car in Am (all subject to the receipt of necessary licences) being confirmed.

In accordance with all the previous announcements only the 'lead' driver was announced per car entry with Nikki Thiim returning to the #95 (presumably the Young Driver AMR Pro entry, Richie Stanaway in the #97 Pro car and Paul Dalla Lana in his #98 Am car.

The biggest point of note with these entries was the revolution that Aston Martin Racing is to the be only GTE entry to use Dunlop tyres in 2016 in both the WEC and at Le Mans compared to the Michelin 'norm', an attempt surely to redress the tyre performance imbalance that the AMR's suffered from last year in comparison to the Porsche and Ferrari's.

Also, for 2016 all GTE Am cars must be at least a year older in specification to the Pro cars again.

We fully expect that all three cars and most drivers will be attending this months factory and partner team test weekend in Spain this month after which, on the 19th February the full driver line up and car liveries will be unveiled.
