VLN test success leaves AMR in confident mood for Spa

Tuesday, May 03, 2016

The three weeks since the opening round of the 2016 World Endurance Championship seem to have flown by with round two at Spa Francorchamps starting on Thursday of this week!

Aston Martin Racing will be looking to build upon successes gained from Silverstone and the podium positions earned by the #95 car in GTE Pro (3rd) and the #98 in GTE AM (2nd). What would have been worrying for the team would be the failure within the V8 engine of the #97 with just half an hour of the race to go - analysis data collected from within oil samples from the cars by their new lubricants partner Total being crucial to finding the cause.

Having been forced to miss both the opening rounds of the 2016 WEC and ELMS championships at Silverstone due to his/the teams customer team commitments AMR factory driver Jonny Adam will be making his 2016 debut with the team. Having participated in the Free Practice sessions last year with the then #95 Dane Train line up he does at least have prior experience of the undulating Spa circuit in a GTE (although then the 2015 spec) so him missing Silverstone should be no real disadvantage the #97.

The 6Hrs of Spa also sees all three cars return to the new for 2016 Stirling Green and yellow livery with the #97 having adorned the blue and yellow colours of the American energy company Valero at Silverstone. We do expect to see that livery back in due course later in the season though.

The one anomaly with Spa compared to the other European rounds of the WEC season is that this meeting starts on the Thursday rather than the Friday with the main race starting at 14:30Hrs on Saturday 7th May.

Keep an eye out for the Belgium tricolour flag within the Aston Martin wings on the front and rear of the cars!
