Aston teams make it into top ten at close of GT Open practice
Friday, November 04, 2016
All three Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3's entered into this weekends finale of the 2016 International GT Open Championship have certainly been 'given it the beans' during todays free practice sessions.
With the TF Sport prepared car of Salih Yoluc and Euan Hankey being joined this time round by stable mates Jon Barnes and Mark Farmer as well as the Italian GT entry from Solaris Motorsport, all have shown positive improvement in laps despite some never having raced at the Barcelona circuit before.
Holding a mid timing table position after this mornings Private Test it was the #21 car of Francesco Sini and Jody Fannin who stole the 'honours' from Barnes and Farmer whereas by the end of FP1 itself the #11 Barnes and Farmer car held onto an incredible P2 position, beating even the championship leaders Lamborghini of Crestani and Biagi.
At the end of this afternoon's second and final Free Practice session honours were restored with many of the full season teams holding the top positions with Hankey/Yoluc in P5, Sini/Fannin in P8 and Farmer/Barnes rounding off the top 10.
The meeting presents Solaris Motorsport with a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a more established AMR Customer team like TF Sport again as they endeavour to improve their understanding of the V12 Vantage.
Qualifying for Race 1 (with nominated driver 1) takes place tomorrow morning before the race itself at 16.15Hrs local with Qualifying 2 for the remaining driver Sunday morning and the final race of the 2016 season starting at 14.15hrs local.
