Double podium for CMRT in Blancpain Asia opener

Sunday, April 09, 2017

Of course a benefit of entering a class with few opponents is that every now and again you will place yourself in a position where you secure of that classes top honours.

That is exactly what the CMRT by Eurasia drivers managed to do in the opening two races of the new for 2017 Blancpain GT Asia Series by securing the final step on the podium in both races.

Whilst the two Qualifying sessions were affected by the repeated red flagging of each session, the #69 Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 squad were at least able to log a time for each session before the team elected to replace the cars gearbox prior to Race 1.

A penalty for that was that the team then elected to start from Pit lane - a decision that proved to be a wise one considering the sizeable impact at the start of the rolling start between a BMW M6 GT3 and a McLaren 650S GT3 that would have otherwise occurred directly in front of their grid starting position!

After the ensuing Safety car the #69 Am crew largely drove their own race ultimately finishing a lap down to the eventual Am class winner, the #19 KCMG liveried Audi R8 GT3 and the runners up, the#75 T2 Motorsport Ferrari 488.

In a much more sedate start to Race 2 the #69 car started the race from its allotted 10th row position and despite cars going four wide into the first corner, all materialised safely through the other side. Again the #75 Ferrari and #19 Audi were the class of the Am Class field reversing the finishing positions of Race 1 leaving the #69 to come home in third again.

These results leave the #69 car in third position out of a five car full season Am class entry.

Round two of the series now moves on to the Chang International circuit in Thailand on the third weekend in May.
