Solaris to miss out the remainder of the GT Open season? (UPDATED)

Friday, September 29, 2017

Very disappointingly but unfortunately not surprisingly, Italian squad Solaris Motorsport will again miss the latest and penultimate round of the International GT Open Series.

Having only swapped from their national GT series to the european championship just short of a year ago, their 2017 season has been an extremely difficult one to say the least in terms of competitive track time, car set up and performance ever since their massive, chassis destroying crash at Paul Ricard earlier in the year.

Since then the team has always been on the back foot, electing to skip rounds in favour of testing before what appeared to be a trouble free round at Silverstone last month - that was before the gremlins came back and again prematurely curtailed their second race of the weekend.

With this weekends round coming from their 'local' track of Monza it must have been a very difficult decision not to run at the event where co driver Mauro Calamia will now participate within a second  SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes.

That would suggest, even partly confirmed by lead driver Francesco Sini, that their 2017 endeavours may already be at an end ahead of the season finale at Barcelona at the end of October.

It will a shame to lose them too early!
