Busy times for AMR before they even head out to Japan

Tuesday, October 03, 2017

With just over a week to go before the opening Free Practice sessions that will form the seventh round of the 2017 World Endurance Championship at the Fuji Speedway it remains something of a frantic period for the factory team.

Not only are they trying to recover early ground lost to their GTE Pro advisories within the WEC season itself but they are also working at a frantic rate of knots trying to develop and test their new for 2018 Vantage GTE before it is due at the (now imminent) Ladoux Balance of Performance test facility in central France.

Having already conducted a series of straight line tests before multiple track days at both Rockingham and Snetterton, it appears that the team have gone slightly further afield for another multi driver test from an (as yet) unknown circuit in Spain. As with previous tests we believe that Messrs Turner, Sorensen and Adam are again putting the new AMG powered car through its paces - that leaves the question of has Nicki Thiim actually tested the car at all - if not why not?

Back to the WEC itself, over at the Fuji Speedway circuit next week we will of course see the omission of Daniel Serra from the #97 Pro car having seen out his extended time with the 2017 Le Mans GTE Pro winning car that he has shared with Darren Turner and Jonny Adam as he is forced to return home to see out his driving obligations within the Brazilian stock car scene.

As always, track action begins with the first Free Practice session over midday next Friday (13th) with the start of the six hour race at 11:00hrs local on Sunday 15th October.
