Beechdean AMR's GT3 is re-born

Wednesday, March 28, 2018

On the eve of the opening round of the 2018 British GT Championship, Beechdean AMR have finally  released images of their new livery that will grace its Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 as the team make a return to the national series this weekend.

Having taken one and a bit seasons out of British GT whilst team boss and double BGT GT3 Champion Andrew Howard sought his fame and fortune in both the European Le Mans Series and at Le Mans itself in his V8 Vantage GTE (he certainly achieved that in the former series by winning the GTE Class), 2018 will see him spend a dedicated season back home whilst business commitments keep him away from the larger European and world arenas.

Joining him in the red, white and blue GT3 will of course be AMR WEC factory driver Darren Turner who returns to the team for a third year having been a co-driver in the team during the ELMS previously.

Testing for the pair has also been somewhat reduced compared with other teams with just a day at a Oulton Park before three further days at the AMR Collective test in Portimao, Portugal last month.

“We had a great time in Europe but it was time to come home,” said Howard. “British GT offers bigger grids in our class and judging by the entry list this is going to be a fantastic season of racing. Our sponsors prefer the UK market, it reachs our core market in the UK and for me personally, as a company director, British GT allows me more time to do my day job.

For Turner, it will be his racing heritage revisited having not competed at Oulton Park since his BTTC days in 2008.

“Getting back onto circuits like Oulton Park and Brands Hatch is going to be a fun experience,” said Turner. “Oulton is a very old school circuit: it’s narrow with a grass run off then it's the barrier and that is something that can really focus a driver’s mind. It’ll be interesting to race against, not just the rest of the stiff competition, but most of my WEC team mates! I don’t think any of us were expecting to get this opportunity and it’s going to make for a great championship battle.

Track action at Oulton Park starts on Saturday with 2x one hour races on the Bank Holiday Monday!
