Two from two for Gray in Australian GT
Friday, March 23, 2018
After a heavily delayed start for Race 2 of the Australian GT Championship support programme this morning saw GT4 racer Jeremy Gray claim his second class win of the weekend.
Having already seen his qualifying pace count for nothing on Thursday when his Bilstein liveried Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4 was found to be underweight, he second start from the rear of the 31 car grid saw the #67 car snatch a last lap win over the (till then) leading BMW M4 at the last corner.
“I actually got held up at the start where we started at the rear of the grid. (Then I) had to really play it smart with the traffic and then when the leaders came through" said Gray. "It was really messy at the last corner of the final lap where I seized the opportunity to slip past the Xavier West BMW for the GT4 class win.”
The race was delayed for over eight hours from its original track time slot after a section of barrier was severely damaged in an earlier race. Instead the crowd were treated to an 'into the night' GT race around the iconic Albert Park circuit.
Who could complain at that!!
