Records broken as China Equity AMR hit the track at Zhuhai

Friday, May 11, 2018

A very colourful quartet of Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT4's belonging to China Equity AMR took to the track today for the first official sessions of the 2018 China GT Championship.

Having already spent the last couple of days testing at the circuit with the teams final driver line up for the first time, it has apparently been something of a bruising introduction to the circuit for a couple of the teams amateur drivers with two cars badly damaged in separate incidences.

As previously reported, AMR's Ross Gunn was due to return to the team after his 75% podium success rate of last year but that deal sadly fell through in favour of regional pay drivers. That leaves former MacMillan GT4 racer Jack Mitchel over their on his own with his own Am co-driver Ryan Liu in the beautifully liveried #618 car. Liu was one of those to damage their car in Free Practice to such an extent for them to miss Qualifying today although it is hoped that they will make the grid for race 1 tomorrow.

With more seasoned campaigners ahead of them, the relative inexperience of those within China Equity's #118, #619 and #117 cars sadly saw them bringing up the rear of tomorrow grid.

One thing of positivity to come out of today was that Zhang Dashang smashed the class lap around around the Zhuhai International Circuit by over a second in his #118 car.
