Its all going on at the moment - Part 3

Wednesday, March 06, 2019

Meeting up with some knowledgable people from Aston Martin Racing at the British GT Championship's Media Day at Donington park yesterday certainly gave up opportunity to put 'some meat onto the bones' into the supply situation for their new 2019 specification Vantage GT3 and GT4 race cars as we approach the opening rounds to the season.

An 'unprecedented position' was one turn of phrase to an early question followed by the confirmation that it was 'all hands to the pumps' and that 'they will succeed' in delivering the large (for AMR) numbers of race car platforms out of the Banbury facility in time for the start of their customers 2019 season.

Indeed, the numbers being quoted were for over 25 V8 Vantage GT3's and over 40 V8 Vantage GT4's being confirmed and paid for at one point earlier this year with production now ramping up exponentially as the technicians become more used to the processes needed to produce a high number of high quality products. These numbers for the 2019 specification cars equate to about 60% of the total number of V12 GT3's and about 33% of all previous V8 Vantage GT4's ever built under the construction lifespan of that previous iteration.

We have seen new teams such as Garage 59, Prosport Performance and D'Station Racing, as well as most established AMR customer and Partner teams like Beechdean, Optimum and TF Sport all order multiple numbers of each platform as customer drivers swoop upon them in to race in what is already seen as the most popular choice of brand for 2019.

Street Art Racing

Whilst the production of the GT3 is steadily making progress, it has only been recently that production of the GT4 has ramped to to output over six cars from scratch last week alone. Early issues have been acknowledged to have left some of their customers without any cars in this period of pre season testing but most (if not all) are expected to receive their full orders from the first batch of cars over the coming weeks.

Beechdean AMR

Beechdean AMR received their GT4 on the morning of the British GT Media Day and we have since seen news of happy drivers being posted from around the world - Street Art Racing, Academy and Optimum Motorsports amongst them.

Academy

Early comments from those who have driven examples of the new GT4 car report back that it is extremely driver friendly - and hellishly fast and stable but the latter is of course before the Balance of Performance demons get their hands into things!

Its going to be a good year in championships like the British GT, GT4 European, ADAC GT4 Germany, China GT and GT Cup and thats just with GT4!!
