The good, the bad and the expected AMR news coming from British GT

Monday, March 02, 2020

This morning saw some great news coming out of the Beechdean AMR team with the confirmation that Andrew Howard and Ross Gunn will again be paired up together for another GT3 Pro-AM assault in this years British GT Championship with a second Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GT3 for the team.

This news comes off the back of the teams earlier announcement back in January that they will be fielding a GT3 Silver Cup entry for the first time in the Championship for their new young drivers Valentin Hasse-Clot and Alex Toth-Jones, although in a bizarre twist of fate, it has now also been confirmed that former MacMillan AMR GT3 racer and former China GT GT4 Champion Jack Mitchell will now race in the #98 Silver Cup entry alongside the Frenchman Hasse-Clot.

The team have said that Toth-Jones has stepped aside for Mitchell in preference for 'another racing endeavour' with the team later in the year.

Only one Beechdean AMR GT3 will be at tomorrows Media day with the three other drivers already having their attendance confirmed.

That is the good news at least, however the bad news is that Hasse-Clot will now not be at Snetterton tomorrow for some early season testing with his new team mate as having spent the last week and a bit over in Asia where he tested AMR GT4 and GT3 race machinery both in Malaysia and  Japan with the BSEM AMR and D'Station Racing AMR teams respectively, he will now be serving a self imposed two week isolation period to protect both himself and others from any possible cross contamination effects with this COVID-19 virus. We believe that the Prodrive technicians who supported the teams with these tests are also doing the same.
Hasse-Clot hopes to be able to undertake testing with the team soon after that all being well which is expected to be at Oulton Park - the only UK circuit that he has not raced at yet in his career.

That leaves us with just the expected news and that comes in the form of the identities of the two young drivers within TF Sports second V8 Vantage GT4. With drivers Patrick Kibble and Connor O'Brien already confirmed within the #95 car, the identity of these other drivers will not be released until after the start of proceedings tomorrow but most of the now four car TF Sport contingent, including these guys have been making the most of todays sunshine to get in some early testing around the Norfolk circuit today.

All of this leaves us with five AMR Vantage GT3 and GT4's confirmed for tomorrows test out of a total entry of twenty four cars entered into this years non-compulsary Media Day events. With some of the attending cars only confirmed for selected rounds of the season, we will have to wait until just prior to the opening round of the season from Oulton Park over teh Easter weekend to see just who shows up and when!

GT track action starts tomorrow at 10:00hrs.
