Wednesday, September 02, 2020

As in three drivers aboard the #23 Heart of Racing's Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GTD in the latest endurance round of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship as well as three AMR Vantage GT4's in the supporting Michelin Pilot Challenge and the American GT series hits Road Atlanta in Georgia this weekend.

With the Weathertech Series returning to their usual mixed field of prototype, GTLM and GTD machinery after the GT's went their own way last time out at VIR, the Florida based HoRT AMR figures as part of a total grid of 29 cars spread amongst the three classes ahead of Saturdays six hour Tirerack.com Grand Prix.

Joining the now team regulars of Roman de Angelis and Ian James will be AMR factory driver Darren Turner who returns to the race arena of North America since the GT1 days of 2006. This will also be the first time that a serving AMR factory driver will have been able to check in with de Angelis since the Canadian was confirmed as an AMR Driver Academy driver back at the end of July.

The team will take encouragement from their race at VIR where they elevated themselves up from their P10 starting position to ultimately finish P8 after the two hours forty minute race.

Supporting the Weathertech Championship again is the Michelin Pilot Challenge for the smaller GT4 cars who's Provisional entry list for this four hour event of their own shows three AMR Vantage GT4's from both the Automatic Racing and Kohr Motorsport teams.

The blue.white and pink #60 car from Kohr lists the usual two driver crew of AMR Drivers Academy driver Nate Stacey alongside his co-driver and driver coach Kyle Marcelli. Last time out at Virginia International Raceway proved itself to be their worst result so far with their P2 Qualifying position translating into a P6 finish after they were caught out on the wrong side of an early safety car.

They will be joined by both of the Florida based Automatic Racing teams AMR Vantage GT4's with what appears to be a return to their 'usual' driver crews after guest appearances in the #99 car at VIR from Charlie Putman and Charles Espenlaub who are this weekend back in Europe competing in the 24H Series from Hockenheim.

Whilst the Privisonal entry list remains blank with names within either the #99 or #09 cars, Stoner Car Care are listing that Ramin Abdolvahabi, Brandon Kidd and Tom Long will all compete in the #09 car whilst just Gary Ferrera and Kris Wilson will feature aboard the #99 car.

Automatic will be hoping that both the drivers of both cars will bring a little luck with them after circumstance and incidence caught up with them at both VIR and Road America. This Series' Qualifying takes place in the evening after Saturdays IMSA Weathertech race with the race beginning at 12:10hrs local on Sunday.
