Double podium for D'Station Racing in Super Taikyu at Autoplis

Sunday, August 01, 2021

Japanese team D’Station Racing set the podium winning Sunday way for the Aston Martin Racing family earlier today as both the team’s Vantage GT3 and GT4 race cars claimed an overall P3 and class win respectively in today’s Super Taikyu Series from the Autopolis circuit.

A two-month gap in their domestic calendar since the last 24hour round of the series at fuji, the #777 AMR Vantage GT3 of Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fujii and Tsubasa Kondo had earlier Qualified P4 whilst their #47 AMR Vantage GT4 of Max Orido, Tatsuya Hoshino, Takura Shinohara and Kenji Hama P7 in their ST-Z class.

The sun and the warmth of Qualifying yesterday were replaced today with rain and fog which quickly saw the five hours round first descend into a Safety Car controlled race before being red flagged just after the 30-minute mark.

With the race clock still counting down, the race itself was resumed with just over three hours remaining.

For the #47 crew, Autopolis was a much better result than last time out when an exhaust issue robbed them of a decent finish at Fuji, but this time it was another visit to the top step of the class podium for their efforts. Originally crossing the line P3 overall, a late penalty for one of the top three cars saw a somewhat bemused Kondo take the P3 podium step by himself as, presumably, Hoshino and Fuji where elsewhere presumably pondering this race before they fly out to Le Mans next week for the World Endurance Championship 24hr.

Next step in the Super Taikyu Series will be at Suzuka in the middle of September.
