A late puncture blots the D'Station Racings recent run of fine form in Super GT

D’Station Racing’s recent Super GT Series podium winning streak sadly came to an end today as the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 driver pairing of Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg suffered a late race tyre issue.

Having taken a GT300 class win apiece after the two individual races ran last time out at Fuji Speedway, the Japanese squad were hopeful of continuing that pace this weekend as the headline domestic series visited Suzuka for round five of the season.

Qualifying the car in fifth for today’s 300km race, it was this time Fagg who started the race for the team with all running according to plan over the initial laps as all the GT300 and GT500 acclimatised themselves to the literal heat of race pace.

Through an early Safety Car period for an incident involving a GT500 car, Fagg quietly held station in fifth as the race approached their pit stop window just ahead of halfway in race distance, eventually handing over to Fujii after a slightly elongated success penalty related fuel stop.

Re-emerging in seventh, the Japanese driver had everything to race for but a rear puncture nine laps from the end saw them drop places and eventually laps to finish P24 at the end.

The series now moves onto Sugo for another 300km race in a month’s time.

Looking to capitalise on Fujis momentum sees D'Station Racing return to the Super GT next weekend

Looking to capitalise on Fujis momentum sees D'Station Racing return to the Super GT next weekend

The Super GT Series will get back to business next weekend as their fifth round of the season takes the mixed GT500 and GT300 entry to Suzuka and a more traditional 300km race after the two sprint races last time out at Fuji.

For those individually driven sprint races, the #777 D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 of Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg of course surprised themselves with a class winning double act for the two drivers over the course of the weekend.

Those results lifted the AMR powered crew up to second place within the GT300 Drivers Championship table, just 4.5 points off the pace setting Mercedes AMG powered #65 crew but with both crews now having to also carry the maximum 100kg additional success weight.

On top of that, the Vantage GT3 also gets a Balance of Performance adjustment in the form of its maximum turbo boost only whilst other platforms get that plus changes to their base weight, etc.

Free Practice and Qualifying will again take place on Saturday before the start of its usual pit stop and driver change punctured 300km race on Sunday.

A near perfect race weekend for D'Station Racing in Super GT

A near perfect race weekend for D'Station Racing in Super GT

It was a near perfect race weekend for the Japanese D’Station Racing team as they returned for something unusual within their domestic topflight Super GT Series and its fourth round of the season.

Racing this time at their local Fuji Speedway circuit, the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 pairing of Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg would this time run solo in two individual races (approximately an hour long each) with the Saturday Practice, Qualifying and race conducted by just Fagg whilst Fujii would do similar on Sunday.

Racing their usual #777 GT300 class entry, the young Brit elevated his P13 Practice position into a second row (P4) starting position to his thirty-three lap, just 0.3 of a second off the lead pace.

That was ultimately converted into a P1 class win for Fagg, their second podium finish of the season so far after their combined P2 finish last time out at Fuji Speedway back in early May.

Next up earlier this morning was Team Manager Fujii who would be getting the same track time opportunities as those before him on Saturday but his local knowledge saw him establish his own commanding position at the top of the class leaderboard in Practice through to Pole Position for the race before converting that into a race win of his own to put the icing upon the cake for the weekend.

These results now see the #777 springboard up into second within the GT300 class, and just 4.5 points behind the pace setting #65 Mercedes AMG GT3 as the series quickly moves onto Suzuka for a more traditional round at the end of the month.

A change of tack within the Super GT Series this weekend for its fourth round from Fuji Speedway

A change of tack within the Super GT Series this weekend for its fourth round from Fuji Speedway

D’Station Racing’s involvement in this weekend’s fourth round of the Super GT Series concludes our mainstream involvement for Aston Martin Racing powered entries around the globe as they prepare to battle out something rather different.

Back to their home circuit of Fuji Speedway, the locally based team again prepare to field their #777 AMR Vantage GT3 within the GT300 class but this time around, there will be two individually driven sprint races over the course of both Saturday and Sunday to keep drivers Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg occupied.

The event is being listed as one driver will complete all of the driving duties per day but with that driver being swapped out with the other for the next day’s sessions but with the combined GT500 and GT300 entries running as one race (as is usually the case) for an indicated thirty-five lap distance on Saturday but with each class having their own fifty-minute separate races on Sunday.

Last time out in the series at their newly reinstated fly away event in Malaysia, that was a disappointing commitment for the team after their lowly P7 qualifying position only delivered upon a P6 eventual finish in class.

That result sees the pairing remain in third overall going into this round.

Safety Car thwarts D'Station Racings efforts in Super Taikyu from Autopolis

Safety Car thwarts D'Station Racings efforts in Super Taikyu from Autopolis

It was an opportunity thwarted by a mid-race Safety Car intervention that stopped the D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing team from securing another podium finish within their domestic Super Taikyu Series visit to Autopolis earlier today.

With the #777 AMR Vantage GT3 car of Satoshi Hoshino, Yuta Kamimura and Tomonbu Fujii narrowly missing out on pole position by just 0.032 of a second saw this five-hour race start under clear blue skies and sunshine around this complex 4.67km circuit.

Fujii opened the proceedings for the team, yet he had to spend his entire opening stint chasing the #101 third placed starting Audi to hold a comfortable P2 at the top of the first hour. Hoshino was aboard next who took the car towards the halfway mark to the race but their post stop outlap was slowed by being the wrong side of a Safety Car for a car in the barrier.

From that point on, it was impossible for the #777 crew to make further inroads into the gap to their ST-X class rivals ahead where they ultimately finished fourth overall just under a lap down to the top three finishes.

Next stop for the team will be back in the Super GT Series from their home track of Fuji Speedway next weekend.

D'Station Racing dominate in Super Taikyu this weekend

D'Station Racing dominate in Super Taikyu this weekend

A dominating performance this weekend as the D’Station Racing team returned to the Japanese Super Taikyu Series and its four-hour race at Sugo.

Having elected to just co-partner their Porsche ST-1 class entry at the most recent Fuji 24hr race, it was business as usual again this weekend as Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fujii and Yuta Kamimura concentrated upon their own #777 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3, leaving their #47 team mates to their own devices this time around.

The weekend started well for the #777 crew as earlier fast Free Practice times were replicated into an overall Pole position ahead of Sundays race.

Again running their series specific red livery, the car quickly established a controlling race lead ahead of their two ST-X class rivals as the race got underway around a dry Sugo circuit.

Just a couple of brief interruptions for cars stopping on track interrupted the flow as both the #777 Aston Martin came home to claim their first Super Taikyu Series race win of the season with its #47 crew also taking another class win for themselves.

The series will now move onto Autopolis at the end of the month.

The red D'Station Racing AMR Vantage GT3 due back within the Super Taikyu Series this weekend

The red D'Station Racing AMR Vantage GT3 due back within the Super Taikyu Series this weekend

The red D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 should be back on track at the weekend as the second tier Japanese GT series gets back underway at Sugo after their last twenty-four round from Fuji Speedway.

At the twenty-four hour, it was decided to amalgamate their respective driving forces within their #47 ST-1 Porsche 992 entry for which that earned the team an overall P4 finish – first in class for their efforts.

This week, the respective driver crews return to their specific #777 and #47 entries with team owner Satoshi Hoshino again partnering team manager Tomonobu Fujii and Yuta Kamimura.

As a result of preferences made for their home track Fuji 24, the class position of the #777 car has now slipped to fifth in class with now a 59-point margin to the present ST-X class leader.

It will also be back-to-back race weekends for some parts of the D’Station Racing team having just competed within the Super GT’s sole fly away round of that championship over in Sepang, Malaysia last weekend where both Fujii and Charlie Fagg were at the wheel of that #777 AMR there.

D'Station Racing move up to third in class after Super GT return to Malaysia

D'Station Racing move up to third in class after Super GT return to Malaysia

It was a hard graft long distance round to the Super GT Series this weekend as the usually Japanese based series returned to Malaysia for the first time in twelve years for their third round to the season.

That of course included the #777 D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 of Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg as a full season entrant but also with another ad-hoc entry from the Earl Bamber Motorsport team for their GT World Challenge Asia customer driver Kerong Li alongside local favourite Jazeman Jafaar.

Again, competing under intense heat at the Sepang International, the weekend did at least stay dry for the combined GT500 and GT300 runners with both Aston Martins competing within the nineteen strong lower class. The #333 EBM entry benefitted from local knowledge to beat its #777 stablemate during Friday’s Free Practice 2 before the combined driver qualifying process did see the D’Station qualify in P7 whilst the #333 had to make do with P17.

Come the race and whilst the faster GT500 class made off in the distance, the #777 held station during the opening laps for the Japanese driver but appeared not to have the performance needed to move forward as the fifty-two-lap race progressed. Li, meanwhile, kept his first AMR powered lap clean as he mainly diced with his Team EBM Porsche powered counterpart before both pitted just after the halfway stage.

The same continued for both crews within the second half as the success-based balance of Performance continued to hamper the #777 but at least, they were able to come home for some more valuable championship points – eventually finishing in sixth with the #333 finishing P19 and two laps down at the end.

The #777 crew now move up to third within the GT300 class as the series moves back to Japan and its next round from their home track of Fuji Speedway in early August.

Two Aston Martins for Super GTs fly away round in Malaysia next weekend

Two Aston Martins for Super GTs fly away round in Malaysia next weekend

The Japanese Super GT Series is back in action next weekend but not from one of its more customary venues as the series competes at its sole fly away round this season from the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

Still just round three of the 2025 season after previous rounds at both Okayama and Fuji Speedway, this round will see not one but two Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 crews compete this time around within the GT300 class.

Full season entrants from the D’Station Racing AMR team of course return with both Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg due again behind the wheel of their #777 car but they will be joined this time around for the more locally based #333 EBM Giga Racing AMR Vantage GT3 of Kerong Li and Jazeman Jaafar.

Last time out at the team’s local racetrack of Fuji Speedway, it was a great result for the D’Station Racing crew after they managed to secure both the GT300 class Pole Position in Qualifying before hanging in to retain a P2 finish in class at the end. That result has elevated the crew up to sixth in the drivers championship stakes after something of a poor start at Okayama earlier.

D'Station Racing park the Aston for the Super Taikyu 24 Hours from Fuji

D'Station Racing park the Aston for the Super Taikyu 24 Hours from Fuji

Interesting to read that the D’Station Racing Team have elected not to compete with their usual two car Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 and their Porsche 992 entries within this weekend’s third round of the Japanese Super Taikyu Series.

Having stepped back somewhat from international based series to concentrate upon their domestic Super GT and Super Taikyu Series endeavours, the team will be competing within this weekend’s series flagship event at the 24Hours of Fuji with a six-driver line up within their #47 Porsche.

The earlier two rounds of the series from both Motegi and Suzuka saw the #777 AMR powered trio of Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fuji and Yuta Kamimura finish a distant fourth at the opening round before finishing third overall next time out, so to give way from the top ST-X class of the Aston Martin to the two-car entry of the ST-1is something of an ‘eyebrow’ raiser!!

Pole to podium for the #777 D'Station Racing AMR crew in Super GT at the weekend

Pole to podium for the #777 D'Station Racing AMR crew in Super GT at the weekend

It was a near perfect return to the Super GT Series for the D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing powered crew at the weekend as they battled another three-hour round of their preferred domestic series from their home track of Fuji Speedway.

Returning to the series with an unchanged driver line up of Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg aboard their #777 car, the crew were eager to avoid any repeat of the opening round where rain and accident damage prevented them from scoring a result otherwise higher up the GT300 class order than they did.

The race weekend certainly started off well in Free Practice where a best lap time of 1:36:664 was good enough for P4 in class, just 0.274 of a second off the lead pace before an aggregated time of 1:35:674 from Fagg and 1:34:820 from Fujii was worthy of a pole position start to Sundays race.

This time around, the race gods were kind as the entire race was completed under clear blue skies and warming sunshine for a change although that wasn’t enough for the team to enjoy an unaffected race plan.

Having maintained point at the head of the GT300 pack, the #777 car was one of the first to pit for service and driver change at or about the top of the first hour, but whilst fighting their way back up the leaderboard the car suffered a left rear puncture. Fortunately with the Dunlop tyre holding up until the pit lane, the team still had nearly half the race distance still to go to recover time lost in those last few corners.

That the crew soon did for the #777 car to recover the class lead going into the final half hour of the race, but they did still have to make one more visit to pit lane for enough fuel for the final ten minutes making for something of a nail biter for those watching on. Back down to third in class with just minutes left on the clock for Fagg to improve and whilst moving up to second was achieved, the distance to the class winning Ferrari crew was just too much to ask.

Either way – a class pole position and a P2 class finish is still a great result in anyone’s book. Next stop will be a fly away event at Sepang. Malaysia at the end of June.

Back to Super GT for the D'Station Racing team but with another AMR soon upon the horizon

Back to Super GT for the D'Station Racing team but with another AMR soon upon the horizon

A very timely social media post from Aston Martin Racing just a few moments ago with first renders of the Earl Bamber Motorsport Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 that they will be entering with the third round of the Super GT Series in Sepang as this weekend, it’s time for round two from Fuji.

Racing at their home track of Fuji Speedway sees the #777 D’Station Racing AMR of Tomonobu Fujii and Charlie Fagg return to the track together after another eventful opening round to the season at Okayama just three weeks ago where the pair failed to capitalise upon a P2 in class qualifying position to eventually finish P24 within GT300 after that event.

With the team taking momentum gained from a great podium winning return to their Super Taikyu Series commitments just last weekend at Suzuka, the team will be hoping that repeated experience within both drivers of the circuit will hold them in good stead for this three-hour race on Sunday and with series enforced tweaks to the old balance of performance subject – who knows!!

D'Station Racings AMR Vantage GT3 within the Super Taikyu Series rounds off this weekends AMR powered participation

D'Station Racings AMR Vantage GT3 within the Super Taikyu Series rounds off this weekends AMR powered participation

We were going to report upon yet two more race series running this weekend with at least one Aston Martin Racing GT within their midst but seeing that one has now gone all BMW on us – that now just leaves the D’Station Racing AMR within this weekend’s Super Taikyu Series.

Round two of the season from Suzuka and this time it’s a five-hour affair for the #777 D’Station Racing AMR Vantage GT3 Evo of Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fujii and Yuta Kamimura within their ST-X classed machine now of course racing its bright red livery.

Not that was always the case at the opening round to the season from Motegi after an early session off for the lead to the aesthetically bizarre sight of the car running in a mix of its new red and more traditional green livery colours for the race.

Although at the time, the #777 was unable to make the qualifying sessions whilst repairs were being undertaken, the crew did come back from the back of the grid to secure an overall and class P4 finish at the end of that four-hour race.

Hopefully, they will have more luck this time around.

D'Station Racing taken out of class contention at a rain affected Super GT opener from Okayama

D'Station Racing taken out of class contention at a rain affected Super GT opener from Okayama

It was to be a frustrating start to the Super GT season for the D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing powered team at the opening round of the 2025 season from Okayama despite their front row start.

After a combined qualification runs from both Charlie Fagg and Tomonobu Fujii, the P2 start within their GT300 class for this 300km opening row proved itself to be thwarted by the results of others within the rain affected opener.

Heavy and persistent rain at the start of the race lead to a rightly cautious start but even that lead to a race delaying multiple GT500 car incident on only lap five of the race that saw the race red flagged during the clear up operation.

After the restart, all was running well for the #777 crew in the lead of the class until their car was tapped into a spin and into the gravel trap by the #4 Mercedes AMG on lap 22 of the eighty-two-lap race from which they would never recover.

Despite being able to run at a pace comparable to that of their peers, the time lost by the car being recovered back to the track left the car back in P24 in class at the end as the team now look ahead to their local round from Fuji Speedway later in May.

D'Station Racing this time fully prepared for the start of the 2025 Super GT Series this weekend

D'Station Racing this time fully prepared for the start of the 2025 Super GT Series this weekend

This time everything is in place for the D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing team as they prepare to embark upon the second season back within the Japanese topflight Super GT Series starting this weekend from Okayama.

Last season saw a new car with the AMR Vantage GT3 Evo, a non-regular driver pairing as well as racing in amongst the most competitive tyre battle between manufacturers that any main series can offer today and whilst there were many signs of success, the overall package lacked the required level of consistency.

For this year’s eight round season, the team’s #777 Vantage GT3 will again be driven by team manager Tomonobu Fujii and their former World Endurance Championship silver ace Charlie Fagg – the pairing that saw out most of last season togther which also saw them secure their first, class win.

Starting this weekend from Okayama, the #777 will compete amongst twenty-seven other GT300 class runners as well as the small but much faster GT500 runners for this 300km race.

Changes to the qualifying sessions on Saturday will now see the larger GT300 class split into two session of fourteen cars, for which the #777 will be in Group B this weekend ahead of Sunday’s race.

D'Station Racing all set for Super GT opener in two weeks time after final test weekend

D'Station Racing all set for Super GT opener in two weeks time after final test weekend

That’s now pre-season testing over with for the D’Station Racing Aston Martin Racing team as their prepare for their next chapter within their domestic Super GT Series this season.

Testing their AMR Vantage GT3 Evo again at their home track of Fuji International Speedway, the #777 only had Tomonobu Fujii on hand again to do what was necessary over two opposing days as in track running conditions.

Saturday’s opening sessions were severely limited thanks to the torrential rain that fell but better, drier conditions on Sunday at least allowed the team to work further with their Dunlop tyre technicians ahead of the season start just two weeks away Okayama.

For this eight-round season, we will again be seeing Charlie Fagg compete alongside Fujii within their slight variation to the usual green livery design within the GT300 class.

A multi-tonal D'Station AMR completes opening round of their Super Taikyu Series return

A multi-tonal D'Station AMR completes opening round of their Super Taikyu Series return

The opening round of the Super Taikyu Series became something of a multi-tonal event for the D’Station Racing team after an earlier incident changed their intended colour scheme.

Returning to the second tier of domestic GT racing in Japan with one of the Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 Evo’s, the #777 Satoshi Hoshino, Tomonobu Fujii and (substitute driver) Yuta Kamimura had intended to start the year with an all-new red livery however, an incident during Qualifying saw the need for need panels which were of the more familiar green colour scheme.

That incident saw the A+B drivers within the car (Hoshino and Fujii) unable to complete the required session.

With the team having to spend much of the time after qualifying conducting the necessary repairs, the #777 was at least able to take part within the four-hour season opener from Motegi where they eventually claimed P3 within the ST-X class – albeit four laps down to their peers.

The next round of the series will be from Suzuka at the end of the April.

We think that this ad-hoc livery design is somewhat pleasing to the eye!!
