Championship tables re-addressed in time for British GTs first visit this season to Donington Park

Three weeks after the last round of the British GT Championship and their Blue Riband event at the Silverstone 500, sees the Championship swing back into action for their fourth round of the season with the first of two visits to the Donington Park circuit this year.

Since the results of Silverstone where the #27 Newbridge Motorsport Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 crew of Matt Topham and Darren Turner took a much-deserved overall class (and a Pro-Am Class) win by the end of that three-hour event, the biggest news to come out of the paddock since has been the results of the Ram Racing protest following the rain affected events of the second race of the opening round of the season at Oulton Park.

With sadly no Aston Martin Racing powered teams competing within the Championship’s GT3 class this year, the result of the Ram Racing protest still saw the GT4 class results also adjusted and that does affect the Championship position of both the #27 Newbridge car and that of the #23 R-Racing AMR of Josh Miller and Jamie Day.

Last week’s National Court judgment places the #44 Stellar Motorsport up to P1 at the expense of the #27 Newbridge which moves down to P3 overall in GT4 whilst the R-Racing car moves up to fifth and their debut podium in race one.

Championship wise and after the results of the Silverstone round now places the Topham and Turner car second in the overall GT4 Drivers table but still clear leaders within their Pro-Am Class whilst the R-Racing crew retain fifth position in the overall table and the same in their Silver Cup class after a difficult round for them at Silverstone.

This weekend’s three-hour race now sees the return of the Championship’s performance related pit stop penalties which must be served at their final mandated stop where the #27 Newbridge car must now serve the maximum additional twenty seconds thanks to their class win last time out.

Unlike Silverstone where we were also blessed with the attendance of the Century Motorsport AMR Vantage GT4 of David Holloway and Bradley Ellis, Donington sees the return of just the two full season entries from both the Newbridge and R-Racing teams.

Timed track action again begins on Saturday with Free Practice and Qualifying with the start of Sundays race being waved off at 12:35pm.
